Someone You Loved is the chart-topping breakthrough single from Lewis Capaldi's debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent.Originally released 8 November 2018 as the third single from EP Breach, the track was written by Lewis Capaldi, Samuel Romans and its producers Thomas Barnes, Peter Kelleher and Benjamin Kohns, and was later included on Lewis' debut album too.
The song first entered the Official Singles Chart in November 2018 at Number 100, beginning a steady nine-week ascent to the top. Someone You Loved broke into the Top 10 for the first time 1 February 2019, a month later climbing all the way to Number 1 where it stayed for seven weeks consecutively.
Someone You Loved clinched the title of the biggest song of 2019 while the Scottish singer/songwriter's debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, went on to become the biggest album of 2019 and best-selling album of 2020 too.
In November 2022 as the Official Singles Chart celebrated its 70th birthday, Lewis Capaldi was crowned "king of streaming" by Official Charts as they announced that Someone You Loved had overtaken Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You to become the most-streamed song of all time in the UK after amassing 562 million audio and video streams to achieve the feat.
In response to the announcement, Lewis told Official Charts "I’m the streaming king! In the UK! On this particular song! I feel huge, I feel massive, I feel my loins expanding as I become more and more aware of the reality of my coronation as the king of music.
"Thank you. A very large accolade that I will now shoulder for the rest of my life...or until Ed Sheeran releases his next album.”
