WEEKLY CHART REVIEW (16/10/2020 - 22/10/2020)

🔴 (Negative)

1) ‘Looking For Me’ doesn’t look like it’s going Top 3 after all, nor even hitting a new high on the chart, despite showing signs of finally entering the region a few days ago.

2) ‘Take You Dancing’ refuses to leave, as it somehow rebounds again!

3) ‘Tick Tock’ was somehow denied a Top 10 position yet again, despite being there in literally every update this week!

4) ‘Daisy’ looks like it’ll linger around the lower end of the chart until it goes on ACR! Honestly, I look forward to that day.

5) ‘Dream On Me’ still isn’t here! This really disappoints me, because if it can’t chart in the Top 100 in its first two weeks, then I sadly don’t see it getting here at all now.

🟠 (Mixed)

1) I’m happy that ‘Mood’ fought off stiff competition to remain at #1… although it almost certainly won’t be able to do it again. With this being its ninth week on the chart & it’s been in decline across all formats lately, it looks like it’ll put on ACR for the next chart.

2) Thanks to his new album going to #1, Headie One just landed another couple of debuts here! In general, Headie One brings a lot of charisma to the table & I really love his choppy flow, but I’m not sure how much chemistry he has with his guest stars & the production feels a bit safe! ‘Princess Cuts’ & ‘Parlez-Vous Anglais’ aren’t bad at all (although I think I care for the latter more at the moment), but I don’t know, they could’ve easily been even better.

3) ‘Savage Love’ is starting to drop away faster now! Honestly, I cared about the original back when it was big, but the overplayment & BTS’ remix really ruined it for me.

4) What exactly has happened to D-Block Europe lately?! ‘UFO’, which debuted last week, is their best song by a mile (& it would probably be in the green section now), but this might be their second best. I really like the guitar & echoes that open the song, which actually gives this a menacing & deep vibe, even if Young Adz & Dirtbike LB are both still very limited with their rapping abilities! That being said, despite their continued overuse of autotune & reverb on their voices, I might actually like their singing more. I don’t know, I still think a 29-track album will be overkill, given what these two have done in the past, but at least this is another step in the right direction.

5) ‘One Too Many’ didn’t break through in the end, but I already did a review of it, so I’m going to post it away! I was really happy seeing this first & since, I don’t know, it’s kind of cooled off on me, albeit only slightly. On one hand, Keith Urban & P!NK have really strong chemistry in the verses, but the latter dominates the hook so much to their point that you can’t even hear the former on it, even if it is still an earworm! Ultimately, it’s a fun country-pop drinking song that’s less twangy & mixed than songs you would see on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in America, so I guess it’s inoffensive enough for me, but I could easily see some frequent contributors to this forum not being so happy about it being here.

🟢 (Positive)

1) Right now, it looks like either ‘Ain’t It Different’ or ‘Lemonade’ will be our next #1! I think the former is more likely to do it, but honestly, I wouldn’t mind either being there next Friday.

2) ‘You Broke Me First’ finally moved into the Top 5! It’s really strong both sales & airplay right now, so let’s hope that success can cross over even further into streaming too.

3) ‘Midnight Sky’ moved up to a new peak! It’d be amazing to see this become a Top 5 hit, which I hope it can do as soon as next week.

4) ‘See Nobody’ really picked up off the debut! Honestly, I saw the hit potential for this early on, so it’s awesome to see it possibly about to fulfil that.

5) ‘Wap’ is finally on ACR, pushing it out of the Top 20 entirely from the runner-up position! I’ve never liked the lyrics, nor the production, nor Cardi… nor anything about this song other than Megan really! Sorry to any fans (& I know a few regulars are!).

6) ‘Levitating’ climbed a few places! I knew from the start that this was the right choice for a single & the DaBaby remix is nearly just as good. For as much as I love ‘Hallucinate’, I’m glad this is doing even better!

7) I really get the feeling that Dutchavelli could be the next big thing in the UK rap scene! I get absolutely hyped by the dark intensity that bubbles up in the production, along with his bombastic delivery in 'Cool With Me'.

8) You all thought ‘Perfect’ & ‘Mr Brightside’ stuck around for a while… ‘Dreams’ by Fleetwood Mac re-enters the Top 40 for the first time in over 43 years, i.e. since September 1977! It’s always awesome to hear throwbacks & iconic groups playing on the chart show, but it’s even more of a pleasant surprise when you’re not expecting them, such as outside of Christmas.

Thanks for reading everyone! Have a nice weekend. :)

"Tick Tock" has got another remix which could probably boost the sales of the song so it can go on the Top 10 hopefully.

avatar

The 29-track album was PAIN. while the songs were nothing special, I really enjoyed the 4 pre-album songs, but the album showed mostly 4-6/10 songs, even a 3/10, and whats more is, I couldn't even find an Official playlist on youtube! On top of that i had to listen to them all thinking i might like it as well as SAVAGE MODE II, which I actually really liked.

3

Thank god "Mood" won't be No.1 next week. That song has been on No.1 for an annoying 4 weeks.

Its on 2nd week decline for ACR sadly so next week will probably be its last chance!

3

I hope "Hallucinate" won't be on ACR for a long time so it can go back on the charts after "Levitating" reaching it's peak which I can't guarantee it will happen.

another super duper review from you mate! :)

i’m buzzing to see you broke me first in the top 5 - number 1 next? i very well hope so. it’s interesting to see your views on d-block europe change too. i didn’t mind destiny actually, i only heard a snippet and it reminded me of gunna haha. sad to see wap on acr, but dreams coming back is awesome, as it’s a classic and probably my favourite fleetwood mac song.

have a nice saturday night. 😊

Great review dear mate!!

avatar

Joshua Sombra

1

Yeah, it is unfortunate but we don't know if it will happen considering that it doesn't have a proper music video so we will have to see if "Hallucinate" will still be on ACR. I really wanted this song to take the first time but I really hope it can have a second chance and the chance of that happening will be like unlikely at the moment but we could be surprised if it goes back on the charts.

avatar

Piran

2

Thanks Dami! :)

I hope you're well this weekend.

avatar

Piran

4

Thanks Coolocelot! :D

I really hope 'You Broke Me First' can go to #1 in the future, but it's looking 'AIn't It Different' will be taking it on Friday, based on how the weekend has gone & what songs are about to go ACR.

D-Block Europe are indeed growing on me, but I don't think I like them enough to check out their new album just yet!

'Dreams' might not be my favourite Fleetwood Mac song (that's probably 'Everywhere'), but it's really awesome to see a classic back in the Top 40 that isn't 'Mr Brightside' nor a Christmas song, haha.

Enjoy your Sunday night!

avatar

Piran

1

I don't think it'll come off ACR now unfortunately! 'Hallucinate' has effectively been abandoned & they're busy pushing 'Levitating' now (which appears to be working). :)

avatar

Piran

1

It's probably going to be 'Ain't It Different' though... how do you feel about that song? :)

avatar

Piran

1

Some of D-Block Europe's earlier hits really sucked & these news are just okay, so yeah, I'll probably skip it! :P

I haven't really heard that rap song so I am not that bothered of it goes on No.1 if only another song like "Midnight Sky" or some other song then I would be pleased.

avatar

Joshua Sombra

1

We know who's to blame. Her record label has been doing so well for her first three singles and then they ruined it for "Hallucinate". After the song rose up to No.31 they decided to take that song off the radios which is a bad move. And then stupidly they decided to put "Levitating" on the radios which is wrong. At this point, I will never forgive of what Warner Records has done. If there is no way for "Hallucinate" to go back on the charts then that's on them. This is a really important song to Dua Lipa and they decide to sabotage the song with another song of theirs. She should of had 4 top 10 hits from the album so far but no. Blame Warner. It should have been No.1 already. I am sorry but I can't stress enough on how they ruined "Hallucinate". Anyway ACR shouldn't even be a thing and I think they should scrap ACR from now on. Do you see how close the release dates are from it. Hallucinate came out on 17.07.20 and Levitating came out (probably unofficially) on 13.08.20 which is a ridiculous time gap. Tbh, they should sabotage Levitating for now then should go back promoting Hallucinate.

avatar

Joshua Sombra

0

It just isn't fair that they sabotage the success of "Hallucinate". It means that they are not a good record label.

M

Mijail

0

Is sad, but I think it won´t hit the top 10 region.
I was thinking in a Latin remix for the song but I guess that rythm is not popular in the Uk.

avatar

Piran

1

Maybe they just thought 'Levitating' would do better as a single? I mean, it clearly seems to be working so far. :)

avatar

Piran

1

'Levitating' is gaining a lot faster than 'Hallucinate' ever did though, so if I'm being honest, I think that the former had more potential than the latter. :)

avatar

Piran

1

I'd hope for 'Midnight Sky' to get there too eventually, but it's going to be either 'Ain't It Different' or 'Lemonade' this week! :P

avatar

Joshua Sombra

0

No but I feel like it will actually hit the top 10 which I am pretty optimistic about.

avatar

Joshua Sombra

0

Warner Records are wrong if they thought that 'Levitating' was a better single than 'Hallucinate'. All of the singles are great and Warner Records shouldn't judge the singles on which one is the best. The singles so far are equally great

avatar

Joshua Sombra

1

I am confused why 'Midnight Sky' won't be able to hit the Top 2 or No.1 spot?

avatar

Joshua Sombra

0

In my opinion, I think all of the singles so far should be on the Top 10. Number 1, you cannot sabotage a previous single by another single because that is someone being selfish and ruining a success of a song. Number 2, Warner had to release the singles in a perfect release date as we see on the first 4 singles then the release date of "Levitating" is criminally close which is not cool and might not been officially released at the date below:
Don't Start Now - 31.10.19
Physical - 31.01.20
Break My Heart - 25.03.20
Hallucinate - 17.07.20
Levitating - 13.08.20

avatar

Joshua Sombra

0

They had to ruin Hallucinate with an animated music video. They could have made an actual music video before lockdown and would have a lot of views.

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, but I think she made the right choice for the first three singles in all honesty. :)

avatar

Piran

0

It's not the streams that its contenders have, but the airplay & sales will hopefully keep it from going on ACR for a while. :)

Ethan's charts!
Today is the 16/10/2020, another week, another list of charts. I don't think I can actually open my official reviewing career without saying:
Holy mother of god, WAP is on ACR. 21 boi!
This has been going on for way too long and to see such a massive drop is more blessed than that remix of Dua Lipa no-one will remember. Speaking of which, it was great to see such a boost for Levitating this week from 30 to 22. What a tune. It is so nice to see a shift in the top five. Though mood and lemonade remain in their spots, WAP falls down, ain't it different and looking for me go up, and you broke me first finally enters the top 5. I believe this week is the start of a change for the better.

Sad bits:
-Baby, I'm jealous charts at 89. I really like this song and I think it deserves more, but I definitely think it's one to watch.
-Wonder has slipped 6. This is probably one of my favourite shawn mendes songs ever so this is sad for me.
-Blinding lights, Lighter, Savage Love and Head and Heart are still slowly slipping
-Pop smoke still has 2 top 10 singles at the moment. They are yet to impress me.

Meh bits:
-I think it's time to give up on dance monkey and watermelon sugar. Both are great songs, but they're getting old now and I think the sooner they go the better now, so to see them both slip is bittersweet
-Fleetwood mac had Dreams in the charts for the first time since 1977. This seems like a good song, and i'm sure it brings with it a lot of nostalgia, but it's not for me
-Hallucinate has completely gone from the top 100, which is quite sad, but then again i wasn't exactly listening to it either
-Mood gets another number 1. This keeps growing on me, but it's not quite there yet

Good bits:
-WAP has fallen to 21! Thank god for ACR because you have no clue how close i've been to completely abandoning the charts for good
-Levitating is up to 22. They actually played the DaBaby remix this week so let's hope this inspires more sales for next week
-Ice cream, Rover, Roses and Popstar are all pretty low. Not a fan of any of these.
-You broke me first finally gets the love it deserves. Top 5! I think it's finally peaked though (although I wouldn't mind it getting a number 1)
-Diamonds, Lasting lover, midnight sky and holy all get boosts. It's so good to see Bieber back in the top 10. Even with the Chance bit, this song is by far his best. Take you dancing also gets a boost. Order is being restored to thee charts, there is more balance
-The top 10 has more than 2 pop songs in!

Ok this is probably all from me. If you liked it, cool. If you didn't, cool. Idk if i'm ever gonna do this again, and I most certainly don't want to steal Piran's spotlight, but from me, it's goodbye.

P.S. please forgive my rubbish capitalisation of words
