singles q1 2024

Noah Kahan’s Stick Season is the biggest single of 2024 so far, Official Charts can confirm.

Charging ahead with over 850,000 chart units in 2024 alone, the seven-week Number 1 – which saw a viral surge towards the end of 2023 – is by far the most popular track of the year to date.

Stick Season also ranks as the most-streamed song of the year so far, with 99 million streams to its name since 2024 began. Overall, since its release Stick Season has accumulated 1.4 million chart units in total.

Noah also earns a second entry in the wider Top 40 with Homesick, a collaboration with Geordie hero Sam Fender, which features on the deluxe edition of Stick Season, at Number 24.

Coming in second place is Lose Control by Atlanta singer-songwriter Teddy Swims, with 512,000 chart units. Swims’ soul-infused ballad has so far peaked at Number 2 and spent 11 weeks in the Official Singles Chart Top 10, generating 57 million streams this year so far.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor waltzes in at Number 3 on the year-to-date list with her 2001 hit Murder On The Dancefloor, which has seen a huge uplift this year thanks to its memorable inclusion in Emerald Fennell’s gothic thriller Saltburn. Originally peaking at Number 2, it matched its personal best on January 12 where it spent five non-consecutive weeks. In 2024 alone, Murder On The Dancefloor has racked up 54.5 million UK streams.

Newcomer Benson Boone’s grandiose soft-rock ballad Beautiful Things is at Number 4 on the list, while Lovin On Me by Jack Harlow lands at Number 5.

The best-selling and most-downloaded track of 2024 so far rolls in courtesy of Beyoncé’s TEXAS HOLD ‘EM (7); Queen Bey’s longest-running chart topper spent four weeks at Number 1 across February and March.

More big 2024 hits in the year-to-date Top 10 include Ariana Grande’s yes, and? (8), which ranks as the most physically purchased single of the year so far (11,000).

Outside the Top 10 lies Dua Lipa’s hypnotic Houdini (12), and Praise Jah in the Moonlight by YG Marley (14), who continues a great family musical tradition being the grandson of Bob Marley and son of Lauryn Hill

Natasha Bedingfield’s glittering 2004 single Unwritten has also enjoyed a renaissance this year following its use in the rom-com Anyone But You, landing it at Number 16 in the year-to-date Official Singles Chart, while Djo – the musical moniker of Stranger Things star Joe Keery – sees uber-viral End of Beginning land at Number 17.

Ella Henderson’s tenth Top 10 UK single Alibi ft. Rudimental slides in at Number 18, just ahead of Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves’ tender country ballad I Remember Everything at Number 22; proving that country is more popular than ever in the UK in 2024. And, with the release of Beyoncé’s COWBOY CARTER and new Country-focused material from the likes of Lana Del Rey, long may it continue!

Rounding out the list are Drake’s Rich Baby Daddy ft. Sexyy Red & SZA (25), rising star Flo Milli’s viral hit Never Lose Me (29), redrum by 21 Savage (33), and Tate McRae’s kinetic exes (34).

'Stick Season' is an okay leader even if I think Noah Kahan has much better songs.

Pleasantly surprised to see 'Murder On The Dancefloor' in the Top 3 three months into the year! 😊

Also, this has to be one of the first years last years number 1 is not in the top 10. It could potentially stay top 40 come end of year however.

Stick Season could potentially stay up there for the rest of the year, unless there is a massive hit in the UK that ultimately dethrones it, which won’t come anytime soon, possibly the only people who could compete are Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Dave or Central Cee, who are set to release albums this year.
