hey what's up mates!  how was everyone's week?  here in southern arizona we've been getting several rainshowers...but not the usual heavy rains for our annual monsoon season...climate change?  anyway, any songs from the current top 10 i should check out?  def. lemme know if there's some good songs on the entire chart i need to check out.

Cannot believe BRITNEY's new single with WILL iam never charted...not only in the UK but actually nowhere...ok..it wasn't her best single TBH but still should have made the Top 100!!

Over the moon to see LOREEN still in the chart after 14 weeks and still inside the Top 5 in so many European countries..i mean TATTOO is soooooo good!!

Can't believe the superb DIAL DRANK never made the Top 20 in the UK!! At least NOAH is having a blast right now in Ireland and the US!! That guy is such a great singer!!

Finally after 21 weeks in the chart the brilliant LUKE COMBS is making the Top 40!! about time...

With the massive success BARBIE is having right now, i am shocked to see LIZZO dropping again this week!! Could it be because of the bad publicity she is getting right now? Hopefully not!! She is so talented....

So happy for JAZZY getting her 2 singles climbing the chart this week!!

UNHEALTHY was at number 15 mid week but dropped to number 21 this Friday!! so unfair and ANNE MARIE's brilliant new album is dropping so fast in the album chart..weird!!

Over the moon to see DOJA climbing this week to number 15 after only 2 weeks in the chart..even though she is getting bad publicity this month from her US fans!!

Am surprised the JESS GLYNE's new single never charted!! not her best but still was hoping for a top 100 entry..at least...

Finally, out of Disqus (RIP, Techfan!) ... Anyway, I see Rich Men North of Richmond managed to debut at #64 which isn't quite as bad as Last Night reaching the top 40 a few weeks back. The former song has been quite the topic of discussion at Pulsemusic.

Also, regarding the women dominating much of the top 10 this week reminds me of a similar phenomenon a few years back in the Hot 100.

I would like to give a shoutout to Piran and hope to be more involved in commenting here.

Chart Update 18/08/2023​

That No.1 sounds different, dunnit?

Yep, you heard me correctly. There is a song that is now more popular than Sprinter. It's a situation that would've been unfathomable, erm.., 2 weeks ago, but thanks to the joys and thrills of ACR(accelerated chart ratio, for those who don't know, if a song that's been around for several months dips in sales for 3 weeks in a row, its streams get sliced like sushi and it slips numerous places), there is a different chart topper. And, as Ernie K-Doe once famously sang, Here Come The Girls. (yes, I know the Sugababes also sang that part, but that ain't important).

The whole Top 8 consist of tracks that are G-fuelled by the feminine race, easily making it the most 1-sided chart showdown in gender history. And yeah, the OCC are only counting it as the Top 6, due to the fact that Aqua and Chase & Status aren't exactly "girl-bands", but the record still stands. So there. Take that, men. Including me. Which I am slightly disappointed about.

So let's start with the bloomin' obvious. After 3 weeks of playing second fiddle, Billie Eilish can officially become head honcho of the second fiddle. By that I mean she now has her 2nd UK No.1. I mean, yeah, but, I was rooting for Dua Lipa in all of this, and now I'm gutted. to be me, I guess. Ms. E's last chart-topper was No Time To Die. Which was ALSO a soundtrack single. Do you see why these chart movements upset me yet? Anyways, yeah, What Was I Made For slaps its way to the top thanks to the nutters at Spotify, cruelly denying Dua Lipa HER (solo) second chart-topper with Dance The Night. A song which is now so old, it's not even on the Radio 1 playlist anymore. You wonder why they play Royal Blood so much nowadays, when even they can't get a Top 100 single. Weird.

In other news, Calvin now has a 30th Top 10 single, which is great, but Desire sadly leaves a lot to be desired in my end. The main criticism here? It steals the four-beat cymbal slap from every Joel Corry song ever. And that is inexcusable. But in more exciting news, O-Rod keeps slogging, and I for one, am all for it. Her second song from upcoming sophomore effort GUTS is bad idea right?, and with it, her fanbase is officially divided. Why? Erm... it sounds like Wet Leg. I know. Massive controversy over in the States for trying to get chart with something that sounds eerily like , but at least she's striving to be different. And that will be crucial when I'm filing my list for the best songs of 2023. 8.6/10. The only minor quibble is that fades out at the end. My least favourite musical cliché.

In other news, Fred Again.. is suddenly a really popular guy. Which we've known about for like a year, what with Turn Out The Lights Again and Rumble both making decent impacts on our lives, but now he has his biggest offering yet, in the form of adore u, which features some lad called Obongjayar. Idk why they hired him either, but unfortunately, when listening to the chart show, the song just flew over my head and made no lasting impact. I'm sorry, Fred. I know you tried really hard...

But I don't care. 5.3/10.

You could say the same for the rest of the new hits in the Top 40, because in my humble and definitely unbiased opinion, most of them are, in a way, tripe. The only one I could give any minor kerfuffles over is Issey Cross, whom you may know her from Wilkinson's Used To This fron last year, but now looks to be giving me migraines for the next few months. Bittersweet Goodbye samples Bittersweet Symphony, which is just quite blasphemous. But you know, the song's fine or whatever. That's it. It's just FINE. Leave Me Alone. 5/10.

On a less positive note, 2 of the other 3 newbies are covers, which is just great, The only original song here is Asking, thus making us witness the return of the man who made Back & Forth, MK. Oh, and also Sonny Fodera, but as this is generic dance, you know exactly what rating this song is getting. 5. This rating can also be used for the new hit at 32. Prada, by some guy called Casso, who saw fit to to make a dance song out of Ferrari Horses by D-Block Europe & RAYE. The one DBE hit I like, and he's just gone and smashed it against a wall. Swell. I'll take 7 white labels, please. (those are discs of songs that DJs play, if you're not cultured. It's definitely not racist or anything)

Even less positively, we must force ourselves to come to terms with the career of Luke Combs. You know him. Country star, the Morgan Wallen it's okay to like, has had a few Top 10 albums already. I mean, I hate country, so I just see him as a little rash on my shoulder that I can't seem to shake off. This has also happened to his cover of Tracy Chapman song, which has been around for TWENTY-ONE WEEKS, and only NOW decides to make the Top 40. Can you tell I hate this song yet? 3/10.

Down on the album chart, I was seriously praying. Begging. BLEEDING for The Hives to grasp their way to the top with The Death of Randy Fitzsimons. But alas, that didn't happen. Still though, best album performance in their history, so they can't be too sad right? They lose out to Liam Gallagher, who clearly isn't affected by his brother having a flop album (in Oasis terms, anyway), as his Knebworth set from NOT 1996 slams its way to the top. Having said that, the Oasis '96 gig didn't get to No.1 in 2021, so I guess he'll be happy or whatever.

Cian Ducrot falls to 55 by the way. Good.

As for the rest of the chart, J Hus is on ACR which , Fredo's new album (at 9) sees some minor entries, and Digga D doesn't get anywhere. So overall, rap has had better days. The only other new hit is of more intrigue than all the other hits this week. A song called Rich Men North of Richmond by Oliver Anthony Music has been on top of iTunes all week, which logically sees it enter at 64 today. I don't know why it's here, but apparently it's a "right-wing anthem" on Wikipedia, and it mentions the kind of stuff that your mum thinks is inappropriate in this day and age, so it probably isn't a good song. Just a thought.

(P.S. No song at the moment really looks like climbing into the Top 40 at the moment. Which is a little dumb, but that's the fault of the likes of Miley, Taylor and co. who just have too much popularity. And given Miley has a new song out today, that isn't going to change.)

I’m really surprised how she hasn’t been able to have another hit since ‘Don’t Feel Like Crying’ five years ago.

Are Official Charts allergic to using full stops, commas, question/exclamation marks in their credits; or the word 'The'?
