Goo Goo Dolls are an American rock band founded in 1986 in New York and made up of singer/guitarist Johnny Rzeznik, bassist Robby Takac and drummer George Tutuska (formerly Mike Malinin until 2013). The band are perhaps best known for their hit song Iris, which was a big hit in the US in 1998 but proved a slow-burner in the UK, where it initially missed the Official Singles Chart Top 40. It later peaked at Number 3 in 2011 following a rendition of the song on The X Factor by controversial contestant Frankie Cocozza. In February 2020 the Official Charts Company announced that Iris had reached mega-hit status, crossing the rare one million UK sales milestone.
