Sprinter was crowned the UK's official biggest song of the summer 2023 by the Official Charts Company. As well as securing one of the biggest opening weeks of the year, Sprinter set a new record for the biggest-ever weekly streams for any rap single ever in the UK (13.4 million streams) upon its release in June 2023. It surpassed Stormzy’s Vossi Bop which racked up 12.7m in seven days in May 2019.
Dave and Central Cee's collaboration also made history by becoming the first UK Rap song to spend 10 weeks at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart, serendipitously celebrating its 10th week at the top during the week that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop. In the process, Sprinter became the first Number 1 for west London rapper Central Cee, and the third for south London's Dave following 2018's Funky Friday featuring Fredo and 2022's Starlight.
The video for Sprinter highlights the two artists’ rise to the top by showing them living it up in London and Monaco, which is ever so slightly sunnier. "We ain't got generational wealth, Central Cee raps on the first verse. "It's only a year that I've had these millions." Sprinter surely added a few more zeros to their respective bank balances, too.
