con't.d...couldn't stop with just 10 80s classics :))))  we had too many hits that decade!

 11. olivia newton-john & cliff richard/suddenly *early 1981-US*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=qT_xpgdEjJE over here, before this single, she was more known for love ballads and her role as sandy in 'grease'.  this was off the xanadu soundtrack & i remember my parents had this one and her hugely successful 'physical' album during this time.  hard to believe this song only peaked @ #20 on the hot 100!  but don't worry, she would later have a then-record breaking #1 smash with 'physical' @ 10 wks @ #1.  but this song perfectly showcases her beautiful voice!

12. sheila e./the glamorous life *1984*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=HpO07s-Aw4I prince did this one and it peaked @ #7 on the hot 100 *prince was HUGE that year in america with his iconic 'purple rain soundtrack'*.  i can't recall anything more from her, but we had one hit after another all throughout the 80s.

13. nu shooz/i can't wait *1986* : https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=KdPfy1Khjpg peaking @ #3 on the hot 100 chart, they're a married couple *still happily married today!* & this song perfectly showcases how eclectic and diverse the 80s music scene really was.  not a traditional pop or club song, very unique for the times.

14. the carpenters/touch me when we're dancing *1981*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=55uJ3lfNJE8 the carpenters were a brother/sister duo who were big worldwide and over here were a pop phenomenon notching top 10 hit after another mostly in the 70s.  sadly karen passed away in 1983 BUT had 1 of the most beautiful voices you'll ever hear!  i highly recommend everyone check out more of the carpenters music!  they were one of best musical acts of all time :)))))  & believe it or not, karen was best friends with olivia newton john during this time.

15. scandal/the warrior *1984*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=yMHtDFDJCqY peaking @ #7 over here, i can only recall 1 other hit from them 'goodbye to you'...but when you turned on the radio here in america you would listen to 1 great song after another.

see how awesome the 80s music scene was?  hard to just pick 10 LOL!  i'll do a 90s list next time with some not so familiar, but some good ones i think you all will like :)))))

Sunshine Gal!!  telling you that "Scandal" had another, previous hit, in a colab with Patty Smith they have "Goodbye to you", and maybe, "Because The NIght" *Not so sure Scandal was on the later song...

cont'd...sorry mates, wanted to break up my list...

6. foreigner/waiting for a girl like you *1981*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=RIdfPBmUAXc peaked @ #2 for a record-breaking 10 wks @ the #2 spot on the hot 100 chart *missy elliot's 'work it' tied them for 10 wks @ #2 stuck behind eminem's 'lose yourself'.  he was #1 for 10 straight wks!  lots of fun being a hot 100 fan*.  robert john 'mutt' lange also did this album...an 80s classic right here!

7.  robert palmer/addicted to love *1986*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=vBPmyXyW6yk&list=PLbGuJX1GQkocvNiq8XU_3Ug5sFlverOe1&index=3 this vid was hugely popular on mtv here and would top the hot 100 chart.  he did very well here notching a handful of top 10 hits on the billboard hot 100 chart...and sadly he passed away in 2003.

8. kix/don't close your eyes *1988*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=5mvogEVDaJg  during this time here in america we had a TON of rock bands with just one rock hit after another.  peaked @ #11 on the hot 100 chart and it dealt with suicide, very controversial back then.  but sounded great on the radio!

9. debbie gibson/out of the blue *1987* https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=7FribHKQSIc : teen pop artist who i idolized back then!!  she would later be the youngest artist to write, produce and sing a #1 hit on the hot 100 chart with her #1 hit 'foolish beat' (later in the year)  this album is still a great 80s pop album to listen to.

10. pretty poison/catch me i'm falling *1987* : https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=3Z76XfRklLk  in the 80s over here we not only had artists go to great heights, but we also had artists that might've have just 1 or less than 5 hits *very hard to compete against big artists like michael jackson, whitney, madonna, janet, prince, etc.* but where even that 1 hit would be a big smash!  i can't recall anything else from them, but this single peaked @#8 on the hot 100...loved it on the radio back then.

Totally agreed!!  the 80s were an excellent decade in the music industry!!, probably the best decade in the last 70 years...

1 thing about growing up in the 80s, we had NOTHING but great music :))))).  so here's a list of 80s tracks that you all might not be too familiar with & lesser known tracks from huge artists, but they all sound just as good today as they all did back then...enjoy everyone!

1. inxs/need you tonight *1987*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=Swdbv5I6qzc this was their lead single off their fantastic 'kick' album here in america...it did very well, 6x plat. & 4 huge top 10 hits.  'need you tonight' would top the billboard hot 100 chart during this time.

2. heart/never *1985*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=xCEFysCT1a4 this album would go 5x plat. and yield 4 top 10 hits.  i was 10 yrs old this year and madonna's like a virgin album & the 'we are the world' single would be so big, so any artist that could compete with them is extraordinary.

3. madonna/love don't live here anymore *1984*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=-oKl_4p-4Hcoff the huge 'like a virgin' album, not a big hit over here at the time *but don't worry, she racked up huge top 10 hits & #1 smashes during this time* but 1 of her very best tracks.  throughout the 80s & 90s she had 1 big hit after another and another.  i still love this album today!

4. the cars/magic *1984*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=B1f0VRdM4BM robert john 'mutt' lange *famous for producing def leppard & shania twain* produced the cars amazing 'heartbeat city' album.  i was too young to get into the cars during this time, but over here they were constantly on mtv & on the radio.  i highly recommend everyone check out their amazing 'heartbeat city' album!!  1 of the best albums to come from the 80s.

5. george michael & aretha franklin/i knew you were waiting for me *1987*: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=B1f0VRdM4BM  came out in early 1987 and would peak @ #1 on the hot 100 chart.  during this time george hadn't become a big solo artist over here quite yet *don't worry, that would change by the end of the year ;)*  later in the summer of this year george michael would blow up here in america & be right up there with the top selling u.s. artists like michael jackson, madonna, whitney houston, prince, bon jovi.

so 1989 (taylor’s version) dropped yesterday and i’ve been waiting for her to finally own that album again. and the wait was worth it!!

the re-recordings sound really good, her vocals have really matured, and new romantics has been on repeat for me. and say don’t go is my favourite vault track on top of that.

i was even hmv’s first customer, that’s how dedicated i was to getting this 😂 i got the rose garden pink edition.

but what really meant the world to me, was when kendrick lamar - my favourite artist of all time right there - chose to re-record his bad blood verse so taylor could get her song back. , its even better than the og verse!! he puts even more energy into the song.

finally, if you want to hear about my great experience at the eras tour film, follow me on threads @itsnoodleszn_, cause i am NOT copying and pasting it here

The way that Kendrick Lamar's verse was an upgrade from the already amazing original! 😩

‘Calm Down’ keeps yoyoing in terms of a Top 40 placement lol.

Looks like ‘Pompeii’ seems to be the next big throwback hit to get a second run… and I’m absolutely fine with that!

‘I Remember Everything’ officially becomes the highest charting country song of 2023! 😍

Hello, Piran!!  so glad to see 2 Swift songs in your "Great" tier!!   I like your personal Chart, is always full of great music, great taste!!

avatar

Piran

Hey Loverman! We could have three there next week thanks to the release of '1989 (TV)'.

Thank you. I really appreciate it! 😊

avatar

Piran

4

‘Ten’ falling a fair bit in its second week isn’t surprising, but it’s still a little disappointing! 😔

Hoping it can at least stabilise. It’d be a shame to see a song as good as this go into freefall.

avatar

Piran

3

‘Cruel Summer’ returning to the Top 3 thanks to the incredible concert film is amazing to see! Glad it was able to top the Billboard charts more than four years after its release too. :)

Who knows if it’ll survive next week with the ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ impact though? 😳

Do they need to get brought into this conversation though? No other regulars from there have even commented here in weeks, if not months.

I'll give them this, at least they're doing better things with their lives than impersonating others unlike this person! 😩

Idk. Beadadoobee's only had one big hit and even that was a feature.
