WHAT WAS I MADE FOR
by BILLIE EILISH
Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie is mostly fun and uplifting, but Billie Eilish's What Was I Made For? soundtracks one of its more contemplative moments. "Takin' a drive, I was an ideal / Looked so alive, turns out I'm not real," Billie sings, channelling Barbie's existential crisis and her own complicated relationship with fame.
It's a lovely, vulnerable ballad that became Billie's second Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart following another film soundtrack hit, her 2020 Bond theme No Time to Die. Billie co-wrote What Was I Made For? with her regular collaborator, brother Finneas, and gave it a stylish video featuring iconic looks from her career to date.
