hey what's up everyone!!   don't know if you're all familiar with the singer in my icon pic...her name was selena quintanilla-perez *or just selena*, hispanic-american singer with an incredible voice!  selena was born & raised in texas & was 4 yrs older than me.  sadly this monday *3/31* will mark the 29th anniversary of her untimely passing...she was shot in the back by a former employee.  i didn't know anything about her until that day *no internet up & running in early 1995 here in the states*...very big news story here in the states.

she sadly passed *3 1/2 mos. until officially released...she was super excited for her english crossover debut* before her english-crossover album was officially released here in the states *she was a huge pop star in mexico & latin america*, but here are some of her most memorable hits, enjoy everyone!:

Good list, and im pretty much with you on it, although not sure LDP were ever really-seriouslly-i mean it "best song of the year" category. Maybe it will grow on me. I'm with you on OR "obsessed" though, great song.  Better than vampire.

Thank you too for putting Benson Boone and Teddy Swims in the "can we pretend these two don't exist? tier". Way too safe for my taste. Dull lyrics too about nothing, but hey, that's what gets you to no.1 these days ;)

Chart Review 29/03/24

You know it's been 30 years since all that Britpop-lager drinkin'-simple chord progession rubbish? Well, D-Ream was topping the chart 3 decades back as well with Things Can Only Get Better. That title may as well be a plaque on my front door. Because this week's two best-sellers are AWFUL.

So bad, in fact, that I will pretend that neither of them exist and focus on the more important matters. Like Benson Boone (😔why do I bother). Not his current 2-week chart-topping stinker, but the new one he put out last week called Slow It Down which is a little bit better, but a whole lot less chart-worthy apparently, given it's not in the Top 40, missing out at 42. An album of his called Fireworks & Rollerblades is out next month. Just a shame I'm not interested in it at all.

So now that we got all of that nasty stuff outtathaway, let's try and dissect one of the most nonsensical charts in a LONG time. And boy, is it hard to keep track of. A knee-shattering, sanity-breaking TEN new ones today, proof that the chart CAN throw curveballs every now and again. Even though the only exiteé on ACR is Noah and Sam's Homesick, but that's not important. Truthfully, it was gonna fall out anyway. There's a couple of re-entries as well, one of them being von dutch by Charli XCX which suddenly doesn't feel like flopping, even though when the physical releases came out 2 weeks ago it fell out the 40. Go figure. On a more noteworthy tangent, returning to the fray is Jungle's Back On 74, a tune that peaked at 25 in October thanks to endless praise from me, and a bunch of other losers that lack musical taste. Then ACR happened, and it soon vanished. Until now, thanks to a few factors. 1, they won a BRIT award. 2, that TikTok virality ain't abandoning them. And 3, if you've advertisements for GAP recently, you can probably narrow it down as to why they've clawed back up to 32. Nitpicking aside, I am obviously over the moon at this news, and will thus start blackmailing you lot to stream it for the next month or two. You have been sorely warned.

After last week's heart-stopping news that an album spent more than a week at the top, this week sees the album charts return to their usual unpredictable selves. This week's victors for 7 days only are Manchester daddish-band Elbow, a band who've made loads of bangers since 2001, and yet the only one most people can name is the albatross around their necks that is One Day Like This. AUDIO VERTIGO is their first LP since 2021 and duly slams to the summit, becoming their 4th No.1 album in their history. Yeah, the only hit they've had for the past 15 years is for a bleedin' John Lewis commercial, and they just randomly spawn in at every festival known to man recently to play the hits, but this album is proof they can still tug at the credibility strings (Lovers' Leap my personal highlight), and that album isn't 87 on Metacritic for no reason. Anyways, I look forward to whatever they do in the future. Besides Guy Garvey working for BBC 6 Music, obvs.

No.2 on that dreaded album chart is a collab effort from people who need to stop collaborating with each other. Future and Metro Boomin came darn close to topping the LPs with their new cut WE DON'T TRUST YOU, and predictably three of it's songs make their bows into the Top 20. Leading the way is Like That, which does have Kendrick Lamar on it, so that may explain it's presence at No.6. As for the others, Type S*** sees Travis Scott and Playboi Carti interfering for no reason, whilst Cinderella involves Travis on his own spouting gibberish with Future and Boomin. Not the best outcome then, but Like That becomes Future's 3rd Top 10 smash, Metro Boomin his 2nd, and Kendrick Lamar his 8th. The fact it got played on Radio 1 is a miracle, given Kanye can probably still be heard protesting about how CARNIVAL can't blare from the airwaves in fear of everyone's brains imploding.

In 8th place this week is a guy you thought had vanished since 2015. Remember Hozier? The Take Me To Church guy? Ireland's finest, apart from the other couple singer-songwriters? Yeah, I don't blame you. Alright, his last album got to No.1 and spawned his first Top 40 single for 8 years, but that doesn't mean much. Everyone tops the albums nowadays. I don't see The Lottery Winners grabbing best-sellers, do I? The theory that he's a virtual 1-hit wonder can go and f*** off because Too Sweet has suddenly entered at 8, in a move that proves no one is allowed to disappear unless the public demands it. Admittedly, it was heading for a lower Top 20 berth until the dreaded PHYSICAL RELEASE, but that's fine. At the very least, it gets him noticed, and I certainly know at least one Irishman on this site that'll be over the moon with this outcome. Even though he prefers Dermot Kennedy. The other songs that came with Too Sweet enter at 86 and 92 if you were wondering, because Hozier is the kind of guy who drops multiple songs at once and expects me to notice. Which I barely do.

Meanwhile No.3 on the albums in Olivia Rodrigo, the lady who went from okay teen with an addiction for purple to alt-rock officionado of the pop market thanks to the swaggering GUTS, which had 5 songs on my Fab 50 last year, headlined by the utter joy of a smash that was bad idea, right?. Clearly, O-Rod doesn't want this to die down, given she stuck out a version on Spotify with some new songs, two of which clatter into the Top 40. Down at 24 is so american, alas, there's about 5 other songs on GUTS that lap rings round it, not that it makes it bad or anything, but you know, that's just how it goes I suppose. What is definitely more exciting is the debut at 10 for a song called obsessed, which absolutely wipes the floor with this week's competition, and deserves all the success given to it. Other song strangers debuts at 58 by the way, but it's not much cop. The only problem is, does she go to bed every night in a cold sweat, knowing that she's the culprit for Noah Kahan's omnipresence? Don't answer that, it's a trick question.

No.13 is the first Top 40 for a guy I didn't have a clue would do so well. Artemas is a British guy of Cyprus-related descent who's been creeping up the back half of the chart with if u think i'm pretty, which sinks back to 62. So naturally he puts out a new song to capitalise and it pays him dividends, of course. NATURALLY. Anyways, i like the way you kiss me has gone bananas on the streaming services, and now it debuts at 13, in a move that will confound and please everyone in equal measure, given if you've heard it, it doesn't really 'sound' like it belongs in the Top 20. But then again, what does belong nowadays, eh?

Before last year, you could be forgiven for thinking that Rudimental were past it, and heading for the dullwaters of clubland memorabilia forever. That was until Dancing Is Healing clattered into the Top 5 last June, and now they're hot water all over again. Green & Gold is the follow-up, and it climbs to 30 after a few weeks fighting for its life, although with how awful Dancing Is Healing was for me, anything they put out was bound to be an improvement. Charlotte Plank sang on that travesty, and she's here again, joined by rapper Riko Dan, and producer Skepsis whose only hit before this was 2023 underachiever Rave Out peaking at 37. So I guess he's having the last laugh then, huh. Also graduating to Top 40 status from clubland is The Blessed Madonna, who jumps up to 40 with Happier. Vocals are provided by Clementine Douglas, fresh from massive success on Sonny Fodera and MK's Asking, and it duly becomes TBD's first hit since she hung out with Fred Again.. on Marea (we've lost dancing) in 2021. She has remixed Dua Lipa's Levitating and yes, and? by Ariana Grande this decade so she should get some more chart grandeur. Even though Happier isn't a patch on Shades Of Love from last year. Why can't that be in the 40 you cowards!?

Meghan and T-Pain crumble up to 50, so they ain't going away anytime soon, Mark Ambor suddenly rockets up 40 places, V crashes down to 68 (The curse of K-POP strikes again!), Tyla's debut album spawns a couple of companion songs to join Water in the Top 100, and the latest guitar-strumming balladeer by the name of Alek Olsen goes in at 98 with his first hit. And yes, it's so by-the-numbers I have trouble remembering it, thank you.

As for next week's lumps, you may as well not bother trying to compete for chart positions given there's a new Beyoncé album out today, as collaborations with Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, and a meh cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene all attempt to convince us of her new country direction. Which is alright I s'pose. The likes of Sum 41, Ride, j-hope and Sheryl Crow should just give up already, given they'll never top the charts again. Elsewhere, Becky Hill is back to disappoint us all again, Young T and Bugsey make their grand return after a few years out of the charts, Camila Cabello has been dragged down trap avenue with Playboi Carti, d4vd's contribution to gritty superhero story Invincible could have a go at charting, and the third 'song' (I can't really call them smashes, can I?) from Leigh-Anne Pinnock is out as well. Given her previous peaks are 11 and 28, it probably doesn't bode well at all. Don't get me started on Perrie's new one either that's supposedly in the can. At this rate, she'll be lucky to reach the Top 100.

Right. I'm off. Goodnight to all who still have faith in the music industry, and if you caught Benson Boone mumbling Lose Control at Radio 1's Live Lounge this week, I'm sorry for your loss. Goodbye.

(P.S. Oh, and Tyla's debut album has creeped into the Top 20 unnoticed. Not like that's a bad thing or whatever, but given Burna Boy can storm to the top of the LPs as shown last year, it's kinda hard to give credit to the South African when she could've done a bit better. Eh, at least she's charted. Right, Kenya Grace?) (Yes, it's just a 24-minute EP, give me a break.)

i keep wanting to ask you, is there any major difference with tay-tay's version of the 1989 album compared to the original?  ok mate, have a great easter weekend...my left hand is getting better, but still very weak.  my physical therapist wants me to do more sessions...so after april 18th *my last current session with her*, she wants me to do more...i'll keep you posted.  in the meantime, i can't do any overtime LOL!  but easy stuff all day, like dusting the hallways & units, folding rags, wiping wet floor signs...LOL!  ok mate talk to you soon.

I guess the main differences are that Taylor's voice has matured a lot since the original recording and I think some of the instruments are pushed further forward in the mix.

Also, like with some of her other re-recordings, there are "from the vault" tracks that didn't make it onto the 2014 version of it.

This week was incredibly busy with nine first-time appearances and two re-entries in the region. Thankfully, a majority of them turned out to be good, so nearly half of my list consists of positive tiers again!

However, I’ve unfortunately introduced a new tier at the other end of the scale…

Wishing you all a very happy Easter! 🐇

hey what's up mate!  well i'm back to work, albeit light duty, & going to physical therapy 2x a week.  i see what's his name being toxic again on here...?

well, my blackhawks will hopefully get the #1 draft pick again, we're that bad LOL!  they'll do the draw *order in which all the teams will pick*, the bottom 3 teams have a chance @ the #1 pick...so it's between us, the san jose sharks & anaheim ducks.  the #1 pick is a 17 yr old canadian who currently plays for boston university...he's currently the youngest player in college hockey right now...so i hope we can get him.

my music takeaway for the night: 🥡

  • LIKE THAT WITH THE HIGHEST ENTRY. we love to see it. kendrick woke up and chose violence with this one. i could go on forever about this but right now, it’s looking to be kendrick, metro, future, travis and carti vs drake, j cole, jid, lil wayne and sexyy red… let the war begin. poor 21 savage won’t want to pick a side. oh, and it helps that this song sounds like trap heaven too with the crazy beat and eazy-e flip.
  • while we’re on the topic of metro & future, it was a great album overall! not their best (ds2 & heroes and villains are modern rap classics) but a really fun listen and lightyears better than vultures. i wish everyday hustle was among the debuts though, that song is unspeakably hard.
  • beautiful things at number 1 again… nah.
  • i like the way you kiss me is such a cool synth-pop song and im glad it’s rising on spotify. welcome to the charts, artemas! and while we’re on the topic of feel good pop that just released, check out the new song by re6ce. it’s really catchy!
  • livrod does it again. im glad obsessed is no longer a leak now. so american was better though (don’t come for me!)
  • am i the only one who wants to kill von dutch with fire? i CERTAINLY did not want this noise back at all.
  • green & gold, happier… dear oh dear these are some stinkers. and please let birds in the sky tank already. it’s music for people who don’t like music and mazza_l20 makes the song even worse. makes me wonder why i’m making electronic music myself.
  • on a positive note, hello jungle! glad to see you back in the region! i need to check out that album but if it’s anything like ive been in love and back on 74, it’s gonna be great. i’ve missed out.
  • finally, outside the charts. the new good kid ep is great as per flipping usual (i didn’t expect from the start there bc it’s a cover!), and im hoping to listen to the new blu detiger and sum 41 albums very soon. i dont think i want to listen to one hour and 18 minutes of country music though, even if its by someone good like bey. sorry.

have a great easter weekend yall! and don’t overdose on chocolate… lol.

Fun fact: ‘Too Sweet’ becomes Hozier’s first Top 10 hit since ‘Take Me To Church’ nearly a decade ago.

I really didn’t expect him to have this much longevity but definitely not complaining about it!

I’ve not heard the Future and Metro Boomin album yet, but I’m really looking forward to it based on the three tracks that charted, especially the Kendrick collab! 🔥

Absolutely loving that ‘Obsessed’ and ‘So American’ got high debuts for Olivia.

‘GUTS’ was already an amazing album anyway but the deluxe edition just took it to a whole new level! 💜
