i really hope lighter gets to number 1. it’s so good.

Same, plus I think it will be in a few weeks.

Considering the insane activity on Discord, we've done well to reach over 750 comments here! :D

man it feels weird being on here when there’s mad discussions on discord.

Yeah, I thought it felt a bit strange too.

It's like walking past your old primary school when you're at secondary school or something! :P

a song that i don’t want to like but i somehow do for some reason: “money machine” by 100 gecs!

yeah, it’s a load of noise, especially with the distorted beat and heavily computerised vocals, but there’s something about it that makes me keep going back to it... i don’t know what, but still, light 7/10. again, i don’t want to like it but i do.

avatar

I love all their music, think I've mentioned them here before. Their last album was my favourite of last year, I'd highly recommend it as it's only like 25 minutes long.

Also it's nowhere neat their most distorted song, that probably goes to 800db cloud or gec 2 U.

well i’ve listened to a bit of stupid horse, but it was only a bit as it was 1am last night.

That's one of their best in my opinion, also their most likely song to got to mainstream (although it still has a really low chance).

smile by katy perry deserves to go top 40!!! streaming is making it so hard for artists like her to chart these days

avatar

⁉️

0

Yeah, it's pretty great.

She's had hits in the streaming era, so there's a chance of it going higher, but I kinda doubt it sadly.

It had to be approved because of Don't Kill My Vibe being not censored enough. D:

Number 6 was really hard, I would have never have gotten it

avatar

Piran

1

Haha, I think you're still leading for now, so unless Cameron wins next week, your reign isn't at any real threat! ;)

avatar

Piran

0

It's not a very well known song to be fair! :P

I was thinking of the one by Loud Luxury to be specific, haha.

avatar

⁉️

1

GG everybody, no one else was really playing, but still, a victory is a victory. It was quite a hard week this week, especially Song 6, couldn't think of a single thing for it.

avatar

0

Thank you. I don't think it was a matter of letting others win, you just weren't here lol.

Song 6 was very hard because there aren't many hits with that title (more songs that I like personally). Still, congratulations anyway! Can you repeat your victory again tonight? ;)

'Lighter' is #1 on the Big Top 40!!! :D

avatar

GET IN THERE!!! :D
(lol i tried to find a gif of ksi and couldn’t find any)

You know what, this might be another 10/10 from me!

avatar

Piran

2

Haha, it might be my favourite song that isn't 'Head & Heart' nor anything from 'Folklore' at the moment! ;)

avatar

Cameron

2

Maybe it's time for Lighter to be number one

avatar

Piran

1

I hope so! It's looking set to remain at #3 in the next chart though.

avatar

Cameron

2

I think it could jump up to number two, I'm not sure if it will get number one

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

The video is amazing too, especially the start where they’re playing poker and JJ gives up! :P

avatar

Piran

1

I loved the banter between them at the start of the video! :P

Also, did you notice that around 30 seconds into the song, Nathan taunts him by saying; "Ooh... I got a Top 10, now I'm the alpha male!"? That aged well, didn't it?

avatar

Piran

1

'Savage Love' might be going on ACR next Friday if it declines in performance this week, so I think it could be #2 in a couple of weeks time. 'Head & Heart' is just too strong at the moment! :P

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

Yeah, I loved the banter at the start and the end... where the team are all done with basketball... and JJ is absolutely fuming that Nathan just walks off with the girl when he did an extraordinary dunk! :P

avatar

Piran

1

Haha, yeah, I've seen so many memes about that last part on YouTube! :P

I still wish Ella Henderson got credited on 'Lighter' though! I wonder why she didn't...?

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

Yeah, Ella deserved credit, so that it’ll be titled: “Lighter (feat. Ella Henderson & KSI)”. Maybe she didn’t wanna get credited? Either way, she killed it.

avatar

Piran

1

“Lighter (feat. Ella Henderson & KSI)” sounds better in my opinion! :P

Annoyingly, her own song, 'Take Care Of You', is barely inside the Top 50 & it probably won't get much higher.

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

Yeah, I like it too lol.

I know Capital are on board with Take Care Of You, but radio doesn’t count for the chart unfortunately. Otherwise it’d be in the top 30 at least haha.

avatar

Piran

1

Unfortunately, 'Take Care Of You' did just collapse on the radio, falling 15-30 on the UK Airplay Chart this week! That being said, the good news is that 'Dancing In The Moonlight' climbed to #1. ;)

What I've liked about this year's chart so far is that all of the number one singles have been different artists (both main artist and featured artist). There hasn't been an artist with more than one number one, for example Ed Sheeran had three number ones in 2019.

So far, apart from the two charity singles, we've had:

Stormzy
Ed Sheeran
Burna Boy
Eminem
Juice WRLD
Lewis Capaldi
The Weeknd
Billie Eilish
Saint JHN
Drake
DaBaby
Roddy Ricch
Lady Gaga
Ariana Grande
Jawsh 685
Jason Derulo
Joel Corry
MNEK

Oh shoot lol. Though aren’t Captain Tom Moore and Michael Ball different from the rest?

Either way, that’s something I didn’t notice. :O

2

I've just checked the artists that took part in the Times Like These charity single and all of them are different as well

0

Yep, I've really enjoyed the variety this year, no song has really overstayed it's welcome at the top either.

OMG... guys, I think we've found a new contender for stupidest commenter on Disqus! -_-

Someone on Headline Planet just told me that he'll never listen to Taylor's music again because she's getting older!

Like, aren't we all?! It's not like there are any artists out there who are getting younger, haha.

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

I responded to his comment. I literally cannot take his comment (oops, suggestions since Im commenting from a phone) seriously.

avatar

Piran

0

It's that stupid that I don't know whether or not to laugh at it or get mad at it! :P

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

I just shook my head lol.

avatar

Piran

1

As far as I'm concerned, to anyone who's nasty to Taylor, why don't you attempt to release an album that'll shift as many copies as her? :P

avatar

Cameron

1

Eminem is my favourite rapper and he is nearly 50 and still releasing good music, age doesn't make a difference at all.

avatar

Piran

0

Exactly! Besides, he's still getting #1 albums & #1 singles in his late 40's, so age clearly isn't an issue. :/

avatar

Cameron

2

For example Eminem got his first number one when he was 28, then on the other hand Britney Spears got her first number one when she was 18, if you're good enough then you're old enough

avatar

Piran

1

Exactly! Then you've artists like Captain Tom Moore or Dame Vera Lynn who are both over 100 years old & they're topping the charts to this day.

avatar

⁉️

1

Maybe he meant people would stop listening to her because she became old? If that's what he's trying to say, I understand, most people don't like music from older people.

But if he's not, what an idiot. Age dosen't effect the quality of the music, there are older people releasing better stuff.

avatar

⁉️

1

There's hardly anyone who can do that. Maybe Kanye, but outside of that no one could really manage it.

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

0

yeah, he’s basically saying no one will listen to taylor swift anymore because she’s getting older. like, oh please, shes still getting number 1 albums and it’s been that way since 2006! he’s just ageist and i can’t take him seriously.

avatar

Piran

0

No offence to him, but Kanye can't pull off those opening week numbers anymore. although he could certainly still land #1 albums in the US & potentially the UK! :P

avatar

Piran

0

She's not that old though... she's only 30! Sia, Eminem & Kanye are all way older than her, but they're still getting hits.

avatar

Why is Kendrick Lamar so amazing? I’ve listened to this song a lot today.

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

Yeah, it’s such an amazing summer rap song! I especially love that “by the time you hear the next pop, the funk shall be within you...” part. :D

avatar

Piran

1

Haha, that part is iconic! ;)

avatar

⁉️

1

I love this song, a 10/10, and it's nowhere near his best for me.

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

0

Yeah, I give this a 10/10 too! :)

I might make a Kendrick Lamar top 10 in a few minutes.

avatar

⁉️

0

I'm trying to, it won't go through for some reason. It's probably because I didn't censor Don't Kill My Vibe properly, but it still won't send a reply to it anymore.

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

No proper lyrics and that girls voice is annoying as ... but that beat dropped so hard!!! Honestly, the drop is the only good thing about the song in my opinion.

avatar

Cameron

1

Yeah but the song as a whole is awful, their later songs got better like Closer, Don't Let Me Down, Something Just Like This etc.

avatar

Piran

0

I completely agree! This is honestly one of the worst songs of all-time in my opinion, but 'Closer' is the complete opposite for me, haha. ;)

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

I’m not exactly harsh on the song, but it’s not good by any stretch of the imagination.

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

Oh the irony! Closer is in your top 10 favourite songs of all time, and Selfie is on the opposite top 10. :P

avatar

Cameron

1

Yeah Closer is a very good song, I think I prefer Something Just Like This to Closer though

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

Same here, I love Something Just Like This, because 1) Coldplay’s name is on it, 2) it’s got a great drop and lyrics and 3) it’s aged brilliantly well! :)

avatar

Cameron

2

Coldplay are definitely one of my favourite bands

avatar

Piran

0

'Something Just Like This' would have to be a close second for me, mainly thanks to Coldplay, haha! :D

avatar

Piran

0

Haha, yeah, they have both a strong 10/10 song & a light 1/10 song! :P

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

They’re one of mine as well. :)

avatar

⁉️

0

Their second worst behind Closer for me. It's just so cringe, the song that aged worst from last decade.

avatar

Cameron

1

Do you think Closer is worse than Selfie?

avatar

⁉️

0

Yep, I just despise Halsey on it, I just despise her music.

avatar

Cameron

1

Fair enough, I don't mind Closer but I think Selfie is horrendous

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

0

in terms of halseys music quality, we’re literally opposites lol. i just really adore her voice.

avatar

⁉️

2

So we're doing these here now? Sounds good:

1) Head & Heart (9/10)
2) Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat) (0/10)
3) Lighter (10/10)
4) Watermelon Sugar (0/10)
5) West Ten (8/10)
6) Secrets (8/10)
7) My Future (8/10)
8) Only You Freestyle (10/10)
9) Greece (6/10)
10) Go Crazy (6/10)

BEST: Only You Freestyle
WORST: Watermelon Sugar

TOTAL: 65%

1

No one on here likes these either of these two songs...
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gUci-tsiU4I
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8EJ3zbKTWQ8
...but which one do you prefer? ;)

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

MY CHOICE: I really hate Yummy but I’ll take any top 10 song from 2020 over Savage Love lol. So I choose Yummy.

avatar

⁉️

2

I'd definitely go with Savage Love, the beat is so good, the version without Jason Derulo is in contention for my song of the summer.

Yummy on the other hand is one of the worst songs of the year so far, the lyrics are dumb and the beat is almost worse than Kings & Queens.

avatar

Cameron

1

I don't like Savage Love but it's ten times better than Yummy

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

0

Yummy is one of the worst songs of the year, you’re right (its probably number 5 or 6 on my list so far), but at least that wasn’t as overplayed as Savage Noise. :P

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

0

I hate both with a passion, so it was hard to pick mine, but Yummy got the edge. Still, the less said about that the better! :P

avatar

Cameron

0

I wouldn't say I despise Savage Love but I'm not a fan, Yummy is one of the worst songs I've ever heard

avatar

Piran

1

'Savage Love', easily! :P

That song only got annoying because of; 1) the extreme overplay on literally every mainstream radio station & 2) the "siren beat" not being able to leave my mind to the point where it became irritating.

'Yummy', on the other hand, has immature lyrics, lazy production & grating vocals! It's still on track to become my worst song of 2020 so far, not even counting the hits. It makes 'Intentions' look like a masterpiece by comparison & I'm not even a fan of that song either, haha!

avatar

⁉️

0

Eh, I haven't really experienced an overplay for Savage Love, maybe it's because I'm not a big radio listener, but still.

Also, overplay dosen't effect the quality of the music. You can't review something off of that in my opinion.

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

yeah, the song is so overplayed lol. and that siren beat ain’t all that special either imo.

oh yeah, yummy is terrible, it’s such an immature, boring dreck, but i’ll take any top 10 song from 2020 over savage noise at this point. still, it’ll end up in my top 5 worst hit songs of 2020! :P

i don’t like intentions either lol.

avatar

Piran

1

Even 'Blinding Lights'? :P

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

yes, i’d even take blinding lights over that, at least there was more appeal in the song, despite it still getting a 2 or a 3 from me.

avatar

1

Haha, it's still a 10 for me! ;)

Usually the UK is more broad with what it takes compared to the US (e.g. Waves and I Took a Pill in Ibiza by merit of their dominant remixes), but instead the US classes them to the genre but not the UK.

UK thoughts:

Really happy Head & Heart is at its 3rd week at no. 1 it’s already one of my favorite songs this summer. I’m hoping it gains success across the pond soon. I’m slowly loving Lighter more and more I’m happy it’s moved up to no. 3 and West Ten is in the top 5 which is awesome 😊😊

As for the other top 10 debuts and re-entries I’m glad Secrets finally made the top 10 and as for the other three I’m not such a fan of Greece and Go Crazy they are both pretty awful and I’ll get to Billie when it enters the hot 100 but let’s just say it’s a nice ballad I need a few more listens to let it sink in.

As for Taylor it’s sad that the songs have dropped a bit in its second week but that’s typical very rarely an album bomb stays steady but with Cardigan being the lead single that’s more than likely gonna stick around so it will more than likely bounce back I’m sure 😊 looking forward to Dancing in the Moonlight & Heaven on My Mind entering the top 10 soon hopefully.

Here’s my thoughts on the debuts outside of Billie and some other songs on this chart haha:

Flowers: I didn’t talk about this last week where there was so many songs that I didn’t listen to or haven’t listened to in a while but I like Lighter a lot and I thought I give this a listen and well I like the beat and the sample was good but I thought while Jaykae’s verse was okay his rapping didn’t really fit the beat I don’t know maybe that’s just me but it’s alright

My Oasis: I love Sam’s music he’s such a great vocalist some of my faves include Stay With Me, I’m Not The Only One, Too Good at Goodbyes, his features on Latch & Promises and I did love his more upbeat material in the past couple of years like Dancing with a Stranger & How Do You Sleep and my favorite of them all is when he did a cover of Judy Garland’s Get Happy for that Judy biopic last year.

This song is actually not bad. I love this reggaeton meets pop-like beat and Sam sounds great and Burna Boy was not bad I probably need a few more listens to get into it so I may have more to say on the hot 100 but it’s pretty good 😊😊

Take You Dancing: I’m glad it went up this week I’m shocked it didn’t make the hot 100 but I’m guessing it’s because of Savage Love getting all the attention which is fine but this song is actually better than the former. I love the beat, it’s fun and catchy, Jason’s voice is pretty decent & the lyrics are not bad either it’s truly a good song I hope this becomes another success for him 😊😊

Lonely: I didn’t really talk about this last week either but with how big and awesome Head & Heart is I had to check this out & I love this song 😊😊.

I love the beat it’s so fun and bopping and super catchy 😊😊. Harlee’s vocals are amazing and fits well with the beat. It’s truly a fun dance song through and through.

Already: I’ll have more to say if it enters the hot 100 but it’s meh Beyonce sounds great, the beat by Major Lazer is okay that’s all I have to say

Mr. Brightside: I’m surprised this is here this song is almost 20 years old and has been on the chart for 237 weeks thats friggin impressive. It’s one of my favorite songs of the 2000’s hands down. Truly brings me back ❤️❤️. Brandon Flowers’ voice is truly amazing and iconic and the lyrics is truly a work of art and the hard rock meets pop instrumentation and production is incredible. A true piece of nostalgia here. I’m glad the UK still loves this song to this day.

And that’s my thoughts for this week 😊😊

The people who say get rid of streaming and bring back physical sales, that's like saying get rid of Netflix and bring back renting movies from Blockbuster

I never thought of it that way, but yeah, physical sales would be a horrible real chart.

The people who complain about streaming also probably complained about downloads back when they started being allowed in the chart.

I think the era of physical sales was probably better than downloads and streaming and was more of an accurate chart but physical sales just wouldn't work in the charts today so downloads and streaming makes perfect sense

i remember in november, someone said that using sales to determine the most popular songs in the streaming age is like counting down the biggest selling oil lamps in the age of electricity. really true though!

I can understand people's frustration with streaming but it's the best way to determine the charts right now

Hey everyone! :)

I'm signing off for now, but I might be later tonight or over the weekend! In the meantime, since EDM is doing so well on the charts right now, please we can make this song a hit?

Take care everybody!

This will be the new number one next week. It's amazing, and so did the new queen of pop. Listen to this beautiful song.

Mr. Brightside is on the chart?? Wow that’s a song I haven’t listened to in a while 😊😊 one of my favorites from the 2000’s ❤️❤️

avatar

⁉️

It hasn't left all to much, I've usually seen it from 70-85.

avatar

Piran

It makes regular appearances in our chart, with this being its 237th week inside the Top 100 (by far more than any other song in UK chart history!). :O

That’s amazing I’m surprised that older songs can last this long on your chart haha

avatar

⁉️

They usually don't though, it's just this song that manages to just stay forever.

Though they do last way longer than the Hot 100 most of the time, even with ACR halfing the streaming numbers of songs.

Piran

Haha, it's because 'Mr Brightside' is the kind of song that everyone in the UK will always play at parties, whether they're staying in or going out! ;)

That’s interesting I’m guessing that’s why Perfect is still around

I love: #1, #2 (Taylor! 😍), #5, #7, #8, #9 & #10! So many classic here. :)

avatar

Piran

2

Yeah, 2014 saw a lot more #1's that lasted a week or two at #1! Back then, getting a month or more at #1 was really something special, haha. :)

avatar

Cameron

1

I think in 2014, only Happy, Rather Be, and All About That Bass spent several weeks at number one. The rest only spent one or two weeks at number one.

avatar

Piran

3

I love your #2 & #3 especially! Taylor is my all-time favourite & it was my 22nd birthday back in March, so how could I not love '22'? ;)

avatar

Alex Peters

1

22 is kind of an important number, from my birthday being on the 22nd

and my brothers, my dad's, some relatives
it's such a coincidence.

guess I'm feeling 22

avatar

Piran

2

Haha, it looks like it's a lucky number for your family then! ;)

avatar

Piran

2

It really deserved to top the charts over here! :D

avatar

Piran

2

Yeah, I think 'Happy' was the longest, but even then, didn't that "only" manage five weeks at #1 to become the longest chart-topper of 2014?
