The Single Dance Monkey is not interesting and passing. It is not clear why the UK chose this song? In the clip, an unemployed man entertains elderly and hopes for a quick drink. I rate this video as unworthy of first place. Compare Basement Jaxx Oh My Gosh.

Camila Cabello has released 4 singles for her upcoming album, hopefully by 2020, 2 out of the 4 will become huge hits. I think Liar and Cry For Me are the two standout tracks, for they sound the most radio friendly.

This is a bit off-topic, but I feel like I need to comment on this:
It would appear that multiple comments of some users, mine included, are getting flagged as spam (I've seen a few by user coolocelot101 disapper, and I'm not talking about the lengthy reviews, I mean the normal comments that every one of us posts on here) for no apparent reason whatsoever - these are regular comments that have been posted on multiple chart reviews at this point, meant to simply express opinions regarding what's going on in the countdown. This is incredibly odd. I don't know what's going on, but if our ability to simply express our opinion on here is jeopardized, then why even have a comment section at all.
I think a higher-up from OCC/Disqus (not sure which one manages this specific comment section) needs to step in and resolve this, as this is getting ridiculous.

I've never supported ACR, and it's artificially large drops, but it absolutely made this week more interesting! "Higher Love", "Ladbroke Grove", "3 Nights" & "Ran$om" are all favourites of mine, so it's a shame to see them affected. I can't say I'm a huge fan of any of the new Top 10 entries, but don't dislike any that much either. "Lights Up" I find mostly forgettable, the same with "47" & "Lose Control". I usually hate Maroon 5 and their boring radio-filler music with a passion, but I find "Memories" too basic to really care about. On a better note, against my expectation's "Circles" seems to be rising, and a potential future #1! That song's in my personal Top 10 at the moment.
PREDICTIONS FOR NEXT WEEK
1) Dance Monkey (=)
2) Ride It (=)
3) Circles (+1)
4) Bruises (+5)
5) South Of The Border (+2)
6) Lights Up (-3)
7) Outnumbered (-1)
8) Highest In The Room (-3)
9) Be Honest (-1)
10) Buss Down (+1)
New Entries further down the chart
Hot Girl Summer #25-40
The Last Time #30-40
Nice To Meet Ya #35-40

Hi Ronald! How are you today? guess what? Duncan Laurence is releasing a new single next week!! Got to listen to the song this week end..Have a great afternoon

avatar

Ronald van Veen

1

Hi Thierry, here is a clip of the new song that he performed on Dutch TV this week. He admitted to have some voice / throat problems and that's why he had to cancel some concerts in the Netherlands after this performance... The new single isn't bad at all but it is nothing like Arcade.... Have a great weekend!

Morning Ronald...Thank you for the link...How are you? Hope you had a great week end..I went with some friends to Rennes, France for the week end...Quite a nice city but unfortunately everything was closed!! Still the surroundings are nice and the food!! don't let me start there! The seafood...the prawns...mussels with fries and the French pancake!! You have a lovely week...

avatar

Ronald van Veen

1

Hi Thierry,
I am fine, thanks!
Had a week off from work and was able to rest.
Working in education is really nice but can also be a bit stressful.
But I am used to that after 27 years....
Rennes, I heard of it but never been in Rennes.
Seafood is not my thing but I'm sure there are other things on the menu too.
Hoping that LIZZO will make quite an impact on Friday's chart!
I expect DUNCAN LAURENCE to enter the Dutch Charts rather high this week.
He's currently still at #88 with Arcade.
I will keep you updated!
Have a great week!

Evening Ronald! How is your week going so far? OMG it has been raining non stop for days now!! BTW the first album from KEIINO in February 2020!! Yeah..Actually i can't stop listening to their new single: DANCING IN THE SMOKE...Just love it..i mean, they are so talented..but to be honest, the song they released in Swedish isn't my favourite..but i mean..SPIRIT IN THE SKY, PRAYING, SHALLOW and now DANCING IN THE SMOKE...they can't do no wrong!! I got to listen asap the new song from DUNCAN LAURENCE...Finally we got a 2nd single after ARCADE!! Have a great Thursday!

avatar

thierry henon

1

Oh yeah LIZZO mid week is at number 4!! i guess the talented ARIANA GRANDE and her vocals on the remix helped out a bit...i got to be honest: i really am a big fan of LIZZO!! but i guess you already know that!

avatar

thierry henon

it is indeed a good remix but i prefer LIZZO solo version..BTW KEIINO has just released a proper video for DANCING IN THE SMOKE...love it!

Good morning Thierry, my week is going well so far. It's Thursday already, time flies when you're having fun at work... Over here in the Netherlands the weather is much better. No rain, mostly rather sunny but chilly. Winter is approaching slowly...

OMG!!! Now I can not wait till February! I will definitely buy the KEIINO album because I really love their pop sound so much! Scandinavian bands are so good in producing pop music! I love DANCING IN THE SMOKE a lot! I even like that Swedish song. It is just pure pop. And I love that.

Tomorrow I will know what impact DUNCAN LAURENCE has made on the Dutch charts... I read somewhere that the day after release it went to #1 on the iTunes chart....

Are you really a big fan of LIZZO? What makes you think I (and the rest over here) already knew that? HAHAHA!!!

My comment was once again marked as spam, but I'm not going down without a fight today, not on my birthday no less! (it's actually my birthday today, hooray!) So instead of copy-pasting my entire review again. I'll just post my thoughts on the one song that stood out for me this week:

(New Entry) #15 - Sidhu Moose Wala, Mist & Steel Banglez feat. Stefflon Don - 47
This… is hands down, the most bizarre and unique song I've heard on the chart this year, bar none - in a good way. This is genre-mashing done in a way even "Old Town Road" only could have dreamt of achieving. I'm not aware how many of you regularly listen to Indian music, because I don't, but from what I'm gathering, Sidhu Moose Wala generally does songs in the hip-hop genre, which… you've got to hear, it's very hard to describe because this entire concept is so foreign to me, but it's incredible. So with this, even if the lyrical content is typical hip-hop, with guns references throughout the song and video, also referenced in the title itself, the production is next level, and you can't help but appreciate these artists coming together and creating something so unique and different. To everyone saying that today's music is trash and isn't "true music" (whatever that's supposed to mean?), keep in mind that just a couple of decades ago, songs like this were impossible, everything was strictly sorted by genre, without much room for experiments. This is what's able to be spawned in the digital era, and I'm so grateful for it.

Harry Styles has done really well actually to debut in the top 3 with lights up as the other 1D members have struggled to enter the charts with new singles, I really wanted Louis Tomlinson to be charting well with Kill My Mind as that song is awesome! Also Strike Me A Pose and How Do a You Sleep have had massive drops I don’t know why they deserve to be staying near the top for longer imo. It’s good to see Shallow make it 55 weeks in the top 100 I thought that was something that Gaga might never manage again but it is a great song! And then the other song I love that deserves a mention is Slide Away by Miley Cyrus, I feel like it’s so underrated, at least it’s had a good couple of months in the charts but still I feel like it deserves to be a top 5 smash.
And hey Piran can I ask what does ACR mean?

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sam! ACR stands for "Accelerated Chart Ratio".

This is where if a song has been on the charts for 10 or more weeks and declined in streams for three consecutive weeks, the value of that song's streams (in terms of performance on the singles chart) will be halved.

avatar

Piran

7

Definitely one of the most exciting weeks for the singles chart in 2019 so far! :)

Half of last week's Top 10 dropping dramatically due to ACR is surprising, but I like all five new arrivals into the region, especially 'South Of The Border' & 'Post Malone'! The latter is going to be very much appreciated by another regular here, you know who you are! :D

Elsewhere, I love the massive gains for 'God Is A Dancer' & 'Memories'! I think both have potential to become much bigger hits!

I'm heading away for a few days, so there'll be no full review for this week, although here are my ratings of each of the new arrivals...

'Lights Up': Strong 7/10
'47': Strong 5/10
'Memories': Solid 6/10
'Lose Control': Light 8/10

Also, here's my personal chart for the week as usual: http://crownnote.com/charts/piran-delves/pirans-top-40-151

Have a good weekend everyone! ;)

Seriously, there is NOTHING exciting about this chart, nor has there been for a good five years nor will there be until there’s a fundamental levelling of the playing field to allow a greater variety of songs and styles into the chart. This chart is just worthless nonsense.

Here in Aus we are still totally obsessed with Dance Monkey and I think it'll get a couple more weeks since the top 10 is pretty stagnant and we only got 1 new entry with Harry Styles.

avatar

1

Very interesting indeed outside of Christmas I cannot remember a chart that had such a drop and the first three songs on the top 40 are three biggest drops on top 40

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, I think we're going to get have to get used to this with ACR now becoming a thing, haha.

avatar

Piran

0

If I remember correctly, this is now 'Dance Monkey's 12th consecutive week at #1, so it would need another three at the top to match 'Shape Of You's record. I have a feeling that it's going to do it if I'm being honest with you!

Incredibly, it's not even the longest #1 of 2019 in your country yet, since 'Old Town Road' managed 13 weeks earlier this year!

For as much as I'd like to see 'Circles' or 'Memories' go to #1, I have a feeling both are going to get blocked in the runner-up position. Elsewhere, I really love seeing 'Ride It' make its way into the Top 10, but kind of mixed on 'Hot Girl Bummer' doing the same.

avatar

Piran

1

I think I already replied to you elsewhere regarding the UK charts, but I'm certainly interested in chatting about the South African one for this week! :)

Firstly, I love seeing 'Beautiful People' go back to #1, especially since it was also at the top of my personal chart for a short period of time too! 'Dance Monkey' & 'Memories' gaining in the Top 10 comes as absolutely no surprise, haha, while '10,000 Hours' might manage to get there next week.

Lower down, the only other thing I can really note is the debut of 'Playing Games', which I'm assuming is due to Summer Walker's new album being released.

Thanks for updating me on this as usual!

avatar

Piran

0

Hey Rob! Yeah, it was good thanks. :)

It was played during 'Europe's Biggest Dance Show' on Radio 1 the Friday before last, which reminded me how much I loved the song, so I went back to revisit it!

avatar

Piran

1

There already is a solid variety of songs inside the chart.

In this week alone, we've got: 'Dance Monkey' (pop), 'Ride It' (EDM), 'Lights Up' (pop-rock), 'Circles' (hip-hop), 'Highest In The Room' (trap), 'Outnumbered' (pop-rock), 'South Of The Border' (pop/Latin/rap), 'Be Honest' (R&B), 'Bruises' (pop) & 'Post Malone' (EDM).

Seems like a decent range of genres if you ask me & that's just the Top 10!

avatar

Piran

0

Also, regarding the ARIA charts, I'm amazed by how well 'One Thing Right' is doing!

You probably wouldn't expect a EDM-country fusion to go Top 5 even in the US, let alone Australia.

avatar

Ebony

1

I'd love to see Circles get to number one but the radios fully supporting Dance Monkey plus we support our own down here so that's definitely helpful. But yeah I love Ride it, hot girl bummer on the other hand

avatar

Ebony

1

We do love our country music over here. I went to a country music concert (Morgan Evans) on Sunday and it was awesome.

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

Hie Piran thanks sorry for replying late I'm glad you loving our charts. As for Summer walker yes it's the new album affecting it's debut in weeks to come she won't go any further. So your personal chart you rate it yourself. ??

avatar

MainlineDnB

0

Pretty much any singles chart before the year 2010. Totally agree with Paul, there used to be much more variety in genre. The handful of mini / sub-genres pointed out in one of the posts above unintentionally highlights that, but even with that breakdown, the majority of the chart is all made to a very particular standard & sound. This has been the case for several years, but I imagine it wouldn’t seem out of place if you hadn’t been following the chart / popular music for as long as certain people (I’ve been checking it for nearly 30 years for example).

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, always lots of fun following international charts! :D

One thing though... for some songs in the Top 40, you just put "local", but I'd be curious to check out what these songs actually are. Maybe song will end up landing on my personal charts, even if I almost certainly won't have heard of them before, haha.

My personal chart is based on two factors; 1) how many times I listen to a song every week through YouTube or the radio & 2) how good I think the song is.

avatar

Piran

0

Isn't Morgan Evans from Australia? Other than Keith Urban, I don't really know too many country singers from your country.

avatar

Piran

0

It seems like 'Dance Monkey' is consistent across the board, probably coming out on top in all metrics in the upcoming chart!

I was hoping 'Lose You To Love Me' would have a chance next week, but releasing that part way through the tracking week probably didn't help matters.

Either way, Adele is said to be releasing something next month, so that'll easy pass 'Dance Monkey' whenever that comes out! ;)

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

ok sorry on the issue of "local " it's Local produced south African songs " From next week will give you full information on our local songs

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

interesting chart though I've opened the Crown chart but I'm failing to edit so that I edit my chart too maybe you could help me

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

will update in full next time if you want to know the Local Song

avatar

Piran

0

I actually haven't heard of any of the three others you mentioned.

Are there any songs you could recommend from them? :)

avatar

Piran

1

Sure! What's the name of your chart? :)

I'll see if I can find it on Crown Note, then look into exactly what the problem is.

avatar

Piran

1

Cool, I look forward to that! ;)

avatar

Ebony

1

Paul Kelly's best known song is How to Make Gravy for Adam Brand and Lee Kernaghan I'd recommend their collab spirit of the Bush. For Lee Kernaghan Boys from the Bush is a staple in my home town

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

sorry Piran for replying late I meant I opened the account at crown chart but not so sure how to operate it very tricky for me

avatar

Piran

1

That's alright! It's fairly difficult to be fair, but you'll get used to it.

The biggest issue for me is putting up song titles that have really common names, since you have to do a search for them.

If you're struggling, maybe just make a chart with 5-10 songs, then edit more in if that goes well!

avatar

Piran

0

I'll check those out & let you know what I think of them when I've heard them! ;)

Anyway, as for the new ARIA singles chart, 'Dance Monkey' doesn't seem to be going anywhere! I'd still give the song a 9/10, but even then, this isn't a positive. 14 weeks is overkill now, but what's worse is that it looks almost certain to at least tie 'Shape Of You's record!

That said, I have a lot of good things to say about the rest of the chart, such as 'Lose You To Love Me' being the top debut of the week at #2! 'Good As ' going Top 10 is amazing too, even if I wasn't such a huge fan of the remix with Ariana Grande. Even 'Follow God' isn't that bad, despite the rest of Kanye's new album being a huge letdown.
