Hey everyone! :)

Just wanted to make a quick comment regarding my Emoji Challenges...

Firstly, I would like to thank you all so much for participating in them & even doing your own when I'm not here! It's clear that a lot of people are enjoying them, so I plan on continuing them for a good while yet.

However, there is an update I need to make, because here is what happens when we look at the overall leaderboard so far...

Coolocelot: 34
Cameron: 16
Jstar: 15
Michael: 15
Fintendo: 8
Frank: 3
Rector: 3
Alex: 3
Gordon: 3
Mateusz: 3
George: 2
Hulnia: 2
Techfan: 2
David: 1
Electric Dude: 1

Now, you'll also notice immediately that Coolocelot has an insane lead. That being said, other than me, he's the only other person who regularly comments on both Headline Planet every Monday night & OCC every Friday night, where I post these challenges, while not many other people who have participated take part more than once a week!

That's why, starting with immediate effect, this leaderboard will be broke down into two separate leaderboards, to make these challenges more fair & exciting! Therefore, I've separated the points depending on which site you generally tend to comment on.

So, when that happens, we have...

OCC:
Coolocelot: 17
Cameron: 16
Fintendo: 8
Jstar: 5
Frank: 3
Rector: 3
Alex: 3
Mateusz: 2
George: 2
Hulnia: 2
David: 1
Electric Dude: 1

Headline Planet:
Coolocelot: 17
Michael: 15
Jstar: 10
Gordon: 3
Techfan: 1

J

These are the numbers so far for Gaga's album according to Buzzjack

UK OCC - Sunday update*

1 CHROMATICA (35.6k)
2 DISSIMULATION (2.1k)

* Missing SPOTIFY, YOUTUBE for Sat, AMAZON HDEL for Fri.

So disappointed to see Ellie Goulding's Power debuting at 86!, why is she having so low debuts when on previous albums she got plenty of top tens?

Happy to see Rain on Me at Number 1, It's such a fun song :)
Also I noticed every week Ed Sheeran's Perfect remains in the 40-50 area and I find thats so impressive considering how old it is.
For next week I am really really hoping that "Sour Candy" a new song by Lady Gaga and Blackpink can get somewhere in the top 40, it's such a awesome song and I'm happy to see Blackpink back again

J

Jstar

1

All of Gaga's songs from Chromatica were in the top 50 for Spotify U.K yesterday.

avatar

Piran

1

You mean those from 'Chromatica', right? ;)

J

Jstar

1

Yep, I just edited my comment, i meant to include that. She has way more than 50 songs lol.

avatar

Piran

1

Haha, yeah, I was going to say, she's really popular, but I don't she's big enough to get songs from her previous albums back in the Top 50! :P

J

Jstar

3

Yeah now that would be insane lol. Nobody is doing that haha. But in total she did around 45 million worldwide on Spotify for Chromatica yesterday. She only did around 7 million on the first day for Joanne worldwide.

avatar

Piran

1

Oh wow, so her streams were about 6-7x more than her last studio album? :O

I just love how some people here said that she was over when 'Perfect Illusion' missed debuting inside the Top 10, now she's had two #1's since then, with both of them probably lasting multiple weeks at the top. Let's not forget that she already has one of the biggest radio hits of 2020 so far in the UK too!

J

Jstar

0

Even I didn't expect this much lol. But I think A Star is Born was probably the best move in her career. It basically brought her back to be a major force again. That album really was special, I don't think she would be having all this success right now if it wasn't for that movie and soundtrack, but I am happy it happened.

avatar

Piran

6

Okay, here's a poll for all of you...

I'll post five artists popular artists & I'd like you all to tell me your favourite song by them.

I'm happy to take requests & I'll let you know what my favourite is in the replies too! :)

So this week, we have:

Taylor Swift
Eminem
Katy Perry
Ariana Grande
Ed Sheeran

avatar

Piran

4

Mine would be:

Love Story
The Monster
Firework
Into You
Castle On The Hill

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

4

For me, itā€™d be:

I Knew You Were Trouble
Lose Yourself
Firework
God is a woman
The A Team

avatar

Fintendo

3

For me it's:
Style
Without Me
Firework
No Tears Left To Cry
Antisocial

avatar

Piran

2

Cool choices Fintendo! :D

I'm glad we agree on 'Firework', while 'Style' & 'No Tears Left To Cry' were both former #1's on my personal chart.

avatar

Piran

1

I like all of these actually! :D

Seems all of us agree on 'Firework' so far, although 'Teenage Dream' was very close for me.

avatar

Fintendo

1

Thanks! Firework was an absolute banger when I was 6! Style has a cool beat and so does No Tears Left To cry, Antisocial is criminally underrated!

avatar

Piran

1

By the way, I'll being doing the same poll on Monday night on Headline Planet too! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, 'Antisocial' was decent! I'm not usually a fan of Travis Scott, but he fit the production well on that song in my opinion. :)

For me, it's Taylor's vocals on 'Style' that make it one of her 18 #1's on my personal chart. Then again, she is my favourite of all-time after all, haha!

avatar

crunch2k

2

Blank Space
Not Afraid
Teenage Dream
The Way
Thinking Out Loud

avatar

Piran

0

I absolutely adore 'Teenage Dream'! It's easily my second favourite Katy Perry song. :)

'The Way' has aged surprisingly well too!

J

Jstar

1

I knew you were Trouble
Lose Yourself
Firework
The Way
Don't

avatar

DamiƔn

1

Taylor: Style and Wildest Dreams
Eminent: Lose Yourself
Katy Perry: Walking on Earth
Ariana Grande: Into You
Ed Sheeran: Nothing On You ft. Paulo Londra
Love this new game Piran!!!!

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks Dami! :D

Yeah, 'Style' & 'Wildest Dreams' definitely deserve such praise, as there were both among the best tracks from '1989' in my opinion.

I guess I'm not surprised to see 'Nothing On You' as your favourite Ed Sheeran song, as Paulo Londra is from the same country as you, isn't he?

avatar

DamiƔn

1

Haha...yep, you 're right. Paulo Londra is an Argentinean trapper so popular here and this song was #1several weeks in our local top 40

avatar

Piran

0

Oh wow, that's cool, but I'm not surprised really, haha!

Like most people outside of Argentina, I'd never heard of Paulo Londra before 'Nothing On You'. :)

Review 29/05/20
The new entries were good this week surf mesa has a good summer vibe which I can see climbing, the Eurovision entry is amazing infact I can see this climbing in the next coming weeks. KSI's new album/song that charted was an improvement to be honest. I have to give credit a number #2 album from a youtuber, just a shame #baldski didn't happen. rain on me brings me back to 2011 lady gaga days, you know back with edge of glory and co. although I do feel Rockstar should have stayed number 1 for longer but rain on me no doubt a good song 9/10 from me that. if anyone is intrested we have a newly set up group where we discuss the chart, post the daily statistics (so basically a chart update every single day with the numbers) and we post the chart earlier and do live coverage of it. the group ahs grown over the past weeks.therefore appreciate anyone who joins

Thereā€™s only three things I fear in life. I fear spiders, I fear coronavirus, and I fear the police after what happened to George Floyd.

avatar

Piran

1

Honestly, if a British policeman did that to a civilian over here, that officer would probably be charged with manslaughter at the very least, maybe even murder given the circumstances.

Of course, it wouldn't be the same in America though, especially with how racist & violent their security forces are. I thought cops were supposed to help protect people's lives, not destroy them! :/

avatar

Piran

1

Okay, it actually turns out that former Minneapolis officer was indeed charged with murder in the end. My only hope now is that he gets a life sentence at minimum!

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

1

Exactly! Police have no right to kill someone as innocent as George (god, American cops are a pain sometimes, especially to black people). He does indeed deserve to be punished. >:(

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, what did George even do in the first place? Probably nothing remotely illegal, given that three CNN reporters were also arrested for simply reporting on this story that the police triggered in the first place.

At the end of the day, regardless of his profession, Derek Chauvin intentionally took another person's life, which is the worst possible crime to commit. I doubt it'll happens, but he should face capital punishment!

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

1

I never knew that news reporters were arrested too, but why? And yes, murder is the worst crime to commit, I agree, and Iā€™ve been suggesting capital punishment for him too.

I know a song to sum up this crisis...

As such, I reworded my original post!

Hello, and welcome to another chart review. Letā€™s start by looking at some notable gains. Firstly, ā€œRoverā€ continues its rise to the top, looks like this is here to stay, itā€™s definitely grown on me as a pretty fun and catchy banger. ā€œBreaking Meā€ also continues to rise as it begins to skirt the top 10, and while I donā€™t dislike this, Iā€™m certainly pretty cold on it so if it becomes a hit I wonā€™t be particularly enthusiastic about it. ā€œFlowersā€ and ā€œDonā€™t Need Loveā€ also continue to rise, the latter of which Iā€™m more pleased about than the former. ā€œWatermelon Sugarā€ gets a big boost via the video. It will be interesting to see whether this sticks around. ā€œSecretsā€ rises, this has grown on me a lot and I would be really happy to see this become huge. ā€œParty Girlā€, on the other hand, continues its steep climb up the charts despite being utterly mediocre. ā€œIf Youā€™re Too Shy (Let Me Know)ā€ gets a boost off the album, whatā€™s really telling is whether it can sustain this momentum, and most surprisingly, ā€œThink About Thingsā€ gets a boost to within the top 40! Will this be a hit? ā€œIly (I Love You Baby)ā€ sadly continues its ascent, and surprisingly ā€œGo Crazyā€ actually picks up off the debut: maybe this will be the 2020 version of ā€œNo Guidanceā€. ā€œMidnight (The Hanging Tree)ā€ has been sustaining its presence in the lower half of the charts, it seems to have some staying power there, which Iā€™m very pleased about. What Iā€™m less pleased about are gains for ā€œSurrenderā€ and ā€œLike It Isā€ howeverā€¦
Moving onto some notable losses, the big surprise for me is that ā€œStuck With Uā€ didnā€™t fall harder than it did, I was expecting a similar fate to ā€œGOOBAā€. ā€œIf The World Was Endingā€ takes a loss, maybe itā€™ its peak? ā€œWHATS POPPINā€ also takes a loss, I hope this can still rebound and pick up a few more points though. ā€œDaisiesā€ drops off though not by as much as I was expecting, and ā€œAfter Partyā€ drops, letā€™s see it drop out the charts as quick as possible. ā€œFallingā€ takes a massive hit, Iā€™m no expert on this chartā€™s weird rules but I expect ACR is at play. ā€œSupalonelyā€ takes a hit, which is a shame because it was growing on me. Notable dropouts are ā€œSunday Bestā€, which definitely isnā€™t taking off over here as much as it is in the US, ā€œXā€, which I thought had the potential to be a real hit, and ā€œGuysā€, which I thought would get a boost off the album. Letā€™s move on to the main event though, our new entries, of which we have a whopping 14ā€¦
Letā€™s start with #96 ā€“ ā€œTogetherā€ by Sia, and yeah I have to say I donā€™t like this. The production and specifically the vocal mixing sounds really tinny and cheap, the lyrics are generic inspirational fodder, the plinky keys are hackneyed and overall Siaā€™s voice isnā€™t flattered here at all and sounds very strained. The bridge was probably the worst part of the song though, Sia delivers these lines in the most awkward and embarrassing way. Not a fan of this, strong 3/10.
At #90 we have ā€œTOP FLOORā€ by Gunna and Travis Scott. This is ok, nothing special, the horn sample for the beat sounds a bit cheap but the slow pace of it and thunderous bass are an ok vibe. Travis Scottā€™s vocal performance is ok but Gunnaā€™s leaves something to be desired as the song quickly wears out its welcome. Nothing too see here, decent 5/10.
At #86 we have ā€œPowerā€ by Ellie Goulding, and wow, we couldā€™ve had something great here. This reminds me of the Gorillaz song ā€œWe Got The Powerā€, and thereā€™s really some elements of this I love. Gouldingā€™s vocal performance is good, the dynamic bass loop is great for providing a strong backbone to the song, it really grounds it. The tempo is good, I like the reverb-laden mix with huge snares, and a lot of percussive embellishments to make the song stand out, and I like the progression too. My main problem here is production-related once more, I feel like thereā€™s just this artificial sheen on the whole song, I think the vocal mixing is subpar, and overall this needed to come together more to just sound much more rounded, instead it comes off as a bit tinny in the high-end. This couldā€™ve been great but this will always really distract me from the core of the song so for me, a strong 5 to a light 6 at most.
At #84 we have ā€œDOLLAZ ON MY HEADā€ by Gunna and Young Thug, and this is much better. I like the dreamy beat with a much higher tempo, so thereā€™s a good groove here and itā€™s much less patience-testing. Gunna proves once again that heā€™s the most redundant trap artist in the mainstream by delivering a completely nondescript vocal performance, but itā€™s ok to listen to. Young Thug comes in and doesnā€™t inject as much energy into the song as I would like. Also I would love to hear some fatter bass on this song, that would really make it pop some more. This is fine enough, strong 5/10.
At #83 we have the last of our Gunna songs, ā€œWUNNAā€, and this is by far the best of the bunch. The beat is blissful and hypnotic, thatā€™s really why this works so well, itā€™s a really tranquil vibe that surprisingly matches Gunnaā€™s understated delivery well. Here, his voice is just an accessory to the production, so I donā€™t feel like he needs to deliver an amazing vocal performance, instead he just rides this beat effortlessly. This is good stuff. For me, a strong 6/10.
Moving on from Gunna, at #82 we have ā€œNothing Revealed / Everything Deniedā€ by The 1975, and, as I expected, they deliver again. This time, thereā€™s clear hip hop influence as the vocals are bathed in a nice layer of autotune which plays well against the blissed-out keys and choppy beat. The rapping isnā€™t amazing, but itā€™s not bad. The chorus is really lovely and overall the vibe of the song is really lovely and melancholic. The mixing of the choral vocals is a little sloppy but apart from that, this is pretty good. Strong 6/10.
At #72 we have ā€œHickory Dickory Dockā€ by Fredo, and yeah this isnā€™t very good. The main problem is, again, the production, which sounds so cheap. The snares really should have way more low-end, they sound so clattery in the ears, itā€™s a really cheap sound that makes the beat sound thrown-together. It really distracts from the rest of the song, though there isnā€™t much worth saving. Itā€™s a standard drill song with a pretty subpar hook and a pretty subpar vocal performance. If the production wasnā€™t really distracting this would be mediocre at best. A decent 4/10 for me.
Moving onto #68 we have ā€œDaechwitaā€ by Agust D. I respect what this is trying to do, itā€™s supposed to be an aggressive trap banger, but for me it falls somewhat short. I like the eerie samples used, and thereā€™s a lot of embellishments that actually make this a fairly dynamic piece of production, but I think it can be a bit messy at times, not as crisp-sounding and clear as it should be. Agust Dā€™s vocal performance is ok but not flattered by the production issues I highlighted, and overall the song outstays its welcome. For me, this is a decent 5/10.
At #57 we have ā€œRawā€ by Aitch. First of all, I have to compliment the production. Aitch always has great taste in production, this conjures a really menacing vibe, with clicking percussion, some eerie synths, and just the right amount of space in the mix. Aitchā€™s vocal performance and lyrics are good. The only problem really is that it definitely does sound a little like what would constitute album filler, it needs to be just a bit more dynamic, there needs to be an injection of energy in the second half, a problem Iā€™ve consistently had with Aitchā€™s music. It tends to just be him coasting on a vibe, which is generally good, but never great. For me this is a strong 5/10.
At #56 we have ā€œTonight (I Wish I Was Your Boyā€ by The 1975, and this is definitely the worst of the 2 new entries we have from the band this week. This has a more uptempo groove, and regardless of the passionate vocals which are similar to the other song, the vibe here is more nonchalant, I donā€™t think it really comes together. The horns are a bit shrill and overall I think this sounds a little messy. I like the vocals and the chord progression, but I think where it falls apart is the groove of the song and the embellishments. For me, this is a decent 5/10.
Moving into the top 40, we have ā€œWhoā€™s That Whatā€™s Thatā€ by Niko B at #39, and this is not at all what I was expecting. Itā€™s basically a low-fi hip hop song with some vinyl crackle, accompanied by a few comedic verses which I have to admit, were quite funny. This fellaā€™s matter-of-fact delivery as he details how he got his girlfriend locked up by planting coke in her purse, and how he hates McDonalds gherkins, is just absurd enough to work, and when accompanied by some ridiculous ad-libs, this makes for a pretty funny song that itā€™s impossible not to root for. Light 6/10.
At #27 we have ā€œKilla Killaā€ by KSI and Aiyana-Lee. I like the production here, itā€™s quite fast-paced with a nice twinkly melody line, overall conjures a quite careless and fun vibe. The hook, though, while catchy, I donā€™t really like, and KSI continues not to impress me as a vocalist, he has some annoying ad-libs and the autotune is a little obnoxious. Itā€™s not offensive though. Light 5/10.
At #24 we have KSIā€™s highest charting debut this week, ā€œCapā€ featuring Offset. The production is ok, a generic trap rumble. Offset rides the beat well as he usually does with his energetic and dynamic vocal style, but KSI really just ruins the song. His vocals are lathered with autotune, he slurs his words, he sounds completely unpolished and mediocre over this and he really pales in comparison to Offset, itā€™s pretty embarrassing. Iā€™m about sick of KSI songs in the charts at this point. This is a very light 5/10.
Finally, at #1 we have ā€œRain On Meā€ by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, and honestly, this may be even more disappointing than Stupid Love. Lady Gaga really isnā€™t a presence here. Despite some slightly odd vocal inflections towards the end, she could be replaced with any other vocalist here over this washed out, generic disco-inspired song with a really meagre groove. It just isnā€™t interesting from a sound perspective. Ariana delivers an ok vocal performance but itā€™s not really a song that makes the best use of her, thereā€™s no drama to this song, no good tension and resolution, and really from Gaga I expected something so much more show-stopping and dramatic, especially in the melodic department. It just doesnā€™t sound like Gaga is trying anymore, which is a shame. Light 5/10.
So I canā€™t believe Iā€™m saying it but ā€œWUNNAā€ is my best of the week, narrowly edging out ā€œNothing Revealed / Everything Deniedā€, and my worst of the week is ā€œTogetherā€ by a country mile. This was really tedious to write with so many new entries and Iā€™m definitely flagging now so thanks so much for reading, and have a good day.

Yeah, I really like the Gunna debuts. Heā€™s a very underrated rapper and I never thought heā€™d get to #5 in the albums chart.

I think he's a pretty nondescript vocalist so I don't blame the critics, but I think the production of WUNNA as well as his cool, laidback delivery just works really well so I know he's at least capable of some good songs

Yeah, although to be fair, you begin at the bottom of the chart & work your way up, while I start at the top & go down (I also only do the Top 40).

Either way, it would've still got a very strong 9/10 from me, as it was my second most streamed track of the past week!

Fun facts:

- Boasting a sale of 70K, 'Rain on Me' gives both Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande each their sixth #1 single. It is the fourth highest weekly sale for a #1 so far this year and highest in five weeks.
- Strangely enough, Ariana Grande has featured on all of the last three all-female multi-artist tracks to top the chart. 'Problem', 'Bang Bang' and now 'Rain on Me'. The latter is also the first #1 song by a female duo since the former did in 2014.
- Despite increasing its sales by 6.7%, 'Rockstar' has to settle for the runner-up position with a sale of 61K.
- 24K sales separate #2 and #3, while only 57 sales separate #4 and #5.
- Around 7K sales separate The 1975 and KSI's albums.
- KSI's seven other album tracks would chart between #38 and #53.

WEEKLY CHART REVIEW (29/05/2020 - 04/06/2020)

Man, I knew this week was going to be an eventful one, but I didnā€™t expect this much action happening! That said, when most of it is really positive news, Iā€™m not about to complain about that either. :)

Firstly, letā€™s discuss by far the biggest singles chart impact of this week, ā€˜Rain On Meā€™ debuting to become Lady Gagaā€™s sixth #1 single across three decades! Hereā€™s the thing, despite the Ariana Grande, this held up so much better than I thought it would. Lady Gaga has always been big on sales & even more massive on the radio, but sheā€™s never been one of the female artists to get massive streaming numbers, at least not this early on. That said, it convincingly held up over ā€˜Rockstarā€™ really well thanks to consistency in all metrics & with ā€˜Chromaticaā€™ being released today, itā€™s already in the prime position to get next week at the top too!

That being said, the biggest reason that thisā€™ll stick around for a while is because of the song itself, which yeah, is absolutely awesome! With Lady Gagaā€™s raw delivery & huge bombastic disco production, it takes me back to some of her early albums that made her so iconic in the first place. Ariana also adds a surprising amount of swell & power to this too, which gives you one of the most entertaining & enjoyable hooks of 2020 so far. There have been different interpretations of the lyrics, but the vibe I was getting was that ā€œrainā€ was a metaphor for ā€œcryā€ here, so the message was about just letting your emotion out sometimes & not being afraid to show it, which I actually respect a lot if thatā€™s what they were trying to get at. No word of a lie, if Ariana & Gaga harmonised a little bit more in this song, it would almost be a highlight of both artistsā€™ entire discography. Thatā€™s my only criticism though & itā€™s more a nitpick, but wow, this song really shows what both Gaga & Ariana are capable of with their vocal registers! For me, a very strong 9/10, keep buying & streaming it, because itā€™s amazing.

Then, we get to the mini-takeover for KSI & look, I was ambivalent going into these three tracks we got from him in the chart today. Sure, outside of ā€˜Poppinā€™, I enjoy the charisma & flair he brings to the table, but his fanbase, man, some of them are really toxic! Again, Iā€™m not mad at the artist at all nor people who even find the meme funny, but I am mad at the disgusting fanboys who made: racist, homophobic, inconsiderate & mindless comments to anybody else who supported any other artist apart from KSI. That being said, their scheme failed, so the fact that theyā€™ve been silenced almost makes up for it entirely! :D

Anyway, all that aside, moving on to the songs themselves! I already reviewed ā€˜Houdiniā€™ & itā€™s stuck with me rather well, so Iā€™m giving that a light 7/10. As for ā€˜Capā€™, the opening beat honestly made my ears hurt & the fuzzy autotune around both Offset & KSIā€™s vocals, along with that distorted bass, really kills any interest I have here! Sorry, this is mediocre at best for me, light 4/10. Then thereā€™s ā€˜Killa Killaā€™, which has actually been recommended to me a few times already & wow, Aiyana-Lee sounds really impressive over the clangy beat (reminds me a bit of Mabelā€™s voice). Iā€™m not sure how well the transaction works into KSIā€™s verse, but heā€™s bringing a flow that actually suits him here! Yeah, the song might end rather abruptly, but the general vibe Iā€™m getting is that itā€™s both chilled & addictive at the same time. Hope it gets some promotion going forward, because this was a pleasant listen! Strong 7/10.

All that being said, the weirdest part of the chart might be near the bottom of it! Heck, we finally got a Eurovision song inside the Top 40 for the first time since 2015. Now granted, most of you will associate ā€˜Think About Thingsā€™ with TikTok, but it started out on Eurovision, just putting that out there being a big fan of the contest! Anyway, Iā€™m just as excited to hear it here because itā€™s a genuinely cool tune. Dadi Freyr (the frontman) has a really deep & sincere tone to open the song, but what captured my attention the most was the funky & quirky instrumentation, which gives this a groove that I havenā€™t been able to get out of my head since I heard it a couple of months ago. The singer actually said that he wrote this for his daughter, as she always has a curious mind & likes talking to her father about her thoughts! Itā€™s incredibly sweet, but also works for all age groups. You know youā€™ve got something wonderful on your hands when the only thing I can criticise about this is the basic choreography in the official video, but while I personally wouldnā€™t give it ā€œdouze pointsā€, but I can certainly see why this was a huge favourite. For me, Iā€™m thinking a light 9/10!

On top of that, we even got a remake of a classic from way back in the 1960ā€™s! This is actually the fourth version of ā€˜Canā€™t Take My Eyes Off Youā€™ remixed by Surf Mesa, with vocals provided by Emilee Flood & while ā€˜ily [i love you baby]ā€™ kind of died down for me over the past month, I still think itā€™s got massive potential going into the early summer & Iā€™m so glad it crossed over from Europe. Yes, the song is constructed in a way that it feels very repetitive, but thatā€™s not really a problem when everything else about this song rules! Emilee has a silky smooth voice thatā€™s the perfect fit for this gentle tropical production. I mean, even the vocal loop is brilliantly constructed! Like I said, this is showing all the signs of being the next EDM smash, so letā€™s make it climb even further over the coming weeks! Strong 8/10 here.

Finally, to round things out, we got ā€˜Whoā€™s That Whatā€™s Thatā€™, which becomes Niko Bā€™s first chart entry. The best way to describe this is just a summary of a studentā€™s standard night out on the town! Seriously, heā€™s singing rather melodically about taking gherkins out of Big Macs in the McDonaldā€™s Meal Deal, getting revenge on a girl who attacked his family & losing his phone. Itā€™s completely ridiculous, sure, but itā€™s so stereotypical of boisterous British teenagers that itā€™s kind of amusing! Yeah, this might be a guilty pleasure, but Iā€™m digging this so far. Solid 7/10!

Funny that, we got two 9/10ā€™s this week (nearly three), but no perfect scoresā€¦ oh yeah, ā€˜If Youā€™re Too Shy [Let Me Know]ā€™ re-entered, so thereā€™s your 10/10. Seriously though, what an incredible week overall!

As for next week, well Iā€™m not seeing any major success for Kygoā€™s new album unfortunately, but hopefully there will be for Lady Gagaā€™s at least.

Thatā€™s it from me for today!

Take care, stay safe & have a lush weekend. ;)

Excellent review as usually mate! So happy Rain on Me debuted straight at 1 and pop music takes the crown again on British charts. "Again, Iā€™m not mad at the artist at all nor people who even find the meme funny, but I am mad at the disgusting fanboys who made: racist, homophobic, inconsiderate & mindless comments to anybody else who supported any other artist apart from KSI."
You've repeated this on like every thread regarding this without showing any racist/homophobic/inconsiderate comments. Did you just saw one tweet or a comment clearly meant to shock people and went along with the narrative of "oH kSi fAnS aRe ToxIc" or something ? Coz you can find those tweets from literally ANY fanbase of any big celeb. Unless the person you're talking about has done something (which KSI hasn't) then its unnecessary to keep mentioning the same narrative "oH kSi fAnS aRe ToxIc" which is irrelevant to your review anyway.

Also didn't Matt Healy, the lead singer of 1975, literally made a tweet mocking the Black Lives Matter movement and using it as promo for his music around the same time as competing with KSI, a hugely successful BLACK entertainer. Its funny coz I don't see you calling Matt Healy racist but ofc you won't coz that doesn't go well with your one sided narrative.

"That being said, their scheme failed, so the fact that theyā€™ve been silenced almost makes up for it entirely!"
Failure ? KSI is still number 6 after nearly a month of his album's release whereas 1975's album have dropped out of top 40. But yeah, keep going with your biased condescending bs.

I find it hilarious how you actually tried to spread your hate onto another article away from the original album charts article we were exchanging on.

So, before I talk about your comment, let's clear up the other one that OCC rightfully deleted...

"I didn't ask you to compare"... I couldn't care less that you didn't ask! This is a music forum for fans of all demographics to share their opinions, so I can say whatever I want about both The 1975 & KSI.

The part about The 1975's record label buying all their albums is completely ridiculous, since their album sales are generally not much different to that of other successful indie-pop groups. What are you going to say next... that the hundreds of thousands of fans that have gone to their shows all work for Polydor? Literal nonsense!

Moving onto this comment & yes, all fanbases will have some toxic fans who made those kind of remarks, but I've never seen on the level of the KSI stans that were on that article about a month ago. I've said exactly where you can find those comments, but you mention about a tweet from The 1975, then where's the tweet?! You haven't put a link nor explained exactly what was said or anything, so unless there's proof, I'm not going to believe it (if you actually did, then maybe that would make me have a think about the way I look at The 1975 as an act).

Besides, the way a fanbase interactions with other groups gives a strong insight into the personality of an artist! I don't want to be associated with people who can't respect other acts, which is a shame, because I actually ended up mostly liking 'Dissimulation' as an album. I think mentioning that I support an artist (except for 'Cap' & 'Poppin') despite toxic comments being spread by their supporters in this community is an important point in these reviews & if anything, is doing KSI a favour!

"Their scheme failed" comes from the fact that KSI fans were trying to get an album to #1 because of a meme & really unfriendly comments! If they were pleasant, then things might've different & encouraged more people to check out the album, but no, the opposite of that happened & that drove most fans on social media platforms away from buying or streaming 'Dissimulation', hence why The 1975 debuted at #1.

Just accept the results. Regardless, no matter how much you rant at me, it's not going to make OCC reconsider what happened a month ago!

Z

Zayn

"I find it hilarious how you actually tried to spread your hate onto another article away from the original album charts article we were exchanging on."
When did I ever spread hate ? I just said its suspicious how 1975 went from number 1 to straight up out of number 60 in 3 weeks at the time I was talking about. Since they are with a huge label, I said I won't be surprised if the mass bought their own units coz sorry to burst your bubble, most big labels do illegitimate tactics to get their album number 1.

That's not called hate, I'm not going "aH tHeY aRe sO bAd, sO TeRriBLe". I didn't even say anything bad about them personally or anything bad about their music either, I just questioned their first week sales & their label but I guess that was enough to upset & trigger you.

If anything, I think the only one spreading hate is you constantly going mentioning & purposely trash talking a black entertainer's fanbase.

"I couldn't care less that you didn't ask! This is a music forum for fans of all demographics to share their opinions, so I can say whatever I want about both The 1975 & KSI."
I couldn't care if you do or don't share your opinion, I just called you out for padding up your comments with stuff that doesn't contribute to the original argument. And yes, you can say what you want, just like I can say 1975 or their label potentially bought their own labels the first week & then dropped out of top 40 within weeks.

"Moving onto this comment & yes, all fanbases will have some toxic fans who made those kind of remarks, but I've never seen on the level of the KSI stans that were on that article about a month ago. I've said exactly where you can find those comments"
No, you haven't. You used the word "racist" and "homophobic", I didn't see a single comment on that article that was racist or homophobic towards 1975. Show me. Whichever article you're talking about, take the screenshot of the comment & show me the racism towards 1975.

The absolute irony of someone being racist towards 1975, the group literally made of white boys, one of which mocked black lives matter & used it to promo his own music. And yes, I could've easily shown the tweet but your daddy Matt Healey deleted his entire twitter after being called for being racist for his tweet and also for older racist tweets & antics. He may have deleted his twitter after being exposed, however its not that hard to find.

Go ahead now, make an excuse for your whiteboy. Always hilarious to see a white stan defend a white celeb for being racist against black people.

"comes from the fact that KSI fans were trying to get an album to #1 because of a meme & really unfriendly comments!"
Wtf is fans gonna do when KSI was depromoting his album & promoting his competition (1975) throughout the entire week ? You're legit more obsessed with KSI's fans than KSI himself.

No 1975 debuted at number 1 coz they released CDs from day 1. KSI, however didn't until the midweek till it was too late. Also KSI was depromoting his album & promoting his competition (1975) throughout the entire week. And also coz like I said 1975's label potentially bought their own albums which explains why KSI maintained his number 2 spot in the following week whereas 1975's album kept on dropping to the point they are now out of top 40.

"Just accept the results. Regardless, no matter how much you rant at me, it's not going to make OCC reconsider what happened a month ago!"
You're acting like me questioning 1975's first week sales is me going "oH kSi ShOulD'Ve BeEn nUmBeR OnE". I didn't even wanted to see him number 1 neither I wanted to see him bald. All I did was question 1975's first week sales since they instantly dropped so hard. Idk why was that was enough to upset you so much, I didn't even say anything bad about your precious whiteboys or their music.

And also mainly coz every article regarding this, I see you attacking KSI's fans constantly, I ignored it for the most part but since you kept doing it, I know there's a clear hatred and narrative you're trying to push. The lead white singer of your favourite band has already been called out for being a racist so I wouldn't be surprised if their fans like you don't like KSI either since he is a hugely successful young BLACK entertainer.

If it's not that hard to find, then you would've showed me by now!

I'm not even upset nor triggered by your accusation against The 1975's debut week, I'm just saying that it's almost certainly not true! It's not my fault that you're still so butthurt that KSI didn't debut above The 1975. Besides, #2 is still an amazing result for KSI & 'Dissimulation' has had longevity in the Top 10!

In fact, with more investigation, KSI actually accused fans of The 1975 being "not real", yet those alleged fake fans still beat him to #1 on the UK's only official chart show: https://metro.co.uk/2020/05/25/ksi-feels-wrath-bts-army-jokes-not-real-fans-album-beats-suga-number-one-12755146/

The racist comments were against other fanbases! I never said they were against The 1975, but "other fanbases", including Agust D: https://www.jazminemedia.com/2020/05/youtuber-ksi-fans-flood-agust-d-itunes-page-with-1-star-negative-racist-reviews-because-of-this-reason/

If you look at that bottom link, there are #BALDSKI comments that say "this is just gay af" & "stank booty a$$"! Still not homophobic nor hurtful then?

I've used two different sources to prove my points, but again, where's the evidence to support your points? I still haven't seen it... :/

Besides, my very first point stands, The 1975's album reached #1, KSI's album reached #2, it's as simple as that.

I'm just going to end this discussion here & move on, I don't know why I'm giving this fanbase more attention that I need to!

A lot of people here love Rain On Me, donā€™t they lol. I like it too. Itā€™ll either stay good or do a Blinding Lights and not age well imo. But for now, I like it!

This is Gaga's and Ariana's 6th number 1 song in the U.K which ties Britney Spears. Gaga is also the first female this century to have a number 1 in the 00's, 10's and 20's now. Also with Gaga's album being released i won't be surprised if it repeats at number 1.

I feel its between that, Rockstar and potentially Sour Candy!

No word of a lie, this might be my favourite week for the UK charts of 2020 so far! Iā€™ll explain why in a few minutes. ;)

Also, did you guys know that 'Rain On Me' got the biggest opening week of streams ever for an all-female collaboration?

Not only that, but despite this being Lady Gaga's sixth UK #1 single, it's her first song ever to debut at #1!

J

Jstar

3

Hey Piran, i was really shocked by such a large debut. I definitely didn't expect 70k in its first week. It definitely exceeded many expectations. I think Shallow only did around 45k when it went number 1 so this is really impressive.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Jstar! :)

Yeah, I was expecting around 55-60k based on BuzzJack's predictions, but not 70k.

Fingers crossed for it on the Hot 100 too!

J

Jstar

1

I expect it to do better numbers than what Simm was predicting as it got another nice boost from Sour Candy being released yesterday.

But I remember last week when we all thought Rockstar would remain at number 1. We definitely didn't see this coming. I did expect top 3 though which still would've been great.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I genuinely did feel that 'Rain On Me' was heading for a #2 debut last week, but thank goodness I was proven wrong! :D

J

Jstar

I have no problem if Rockstar returns to number 1 next week. But I am just happy it got number 1 if it is only for a week.

avatar

2

I do think 'Rain On Me' could get a second week at #1 in the UK though, thanks to the release of 'Chromatica'! ;)

Of course... I'm waiting to hear your thoughts on the album now, haha.

J

I am still favoring Rain on Me to repeat at number 1.

You will hear my thoughts later on in the week lol.

What is going on here my friends, itā€™s CoolOcelot back again with another review. Coming up, we have two pop idols, a YouTuber/rapper, a Eurovision entry (you read that right), a new DJ on the scene, and some dude called Niko B who did well on iTunes. Go on you all, give us your best shots and weā€™ll see what happens.

Before I get into the singles part, I need to get into the albums part first and we had some genuinely horrible people on the Disqus page who were only trying to get Dissimulation to #1 only to see KSI shave his head (guys, KSI did NOT want that to happen, he feared it), and made some horrible comments towards fans of Agust D & The 1975. Well, Iā€™m bringing news for all you trolls who wanted Baldski, NOACF got to #1, so haha to yous! :D And I sighed in relief because KSI didnā€™t want to be bald.

Now we can jump into the songs, lowest to highest this time.

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

2

Taking a fresh start at #39 is Niko Bā€™s ā€œWhoā€™s That Whatā€™s Thatā€. I saw this high in the iTunes charts a few days ago but only listened to it today. The song has a groovy beat, but I donā€™t know how to feel about Nikoā€™s delivery. Then we have the pattern of two verses and three choruses... where Niko mentions taking gherkins out of his Big Mac?! It doesnā€™t stand out from other rap hits but this song is good for a nice giggle. For that reason, strong 6/10!

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

2

Coming up from 41-36 is Surf Mesa & Emileeā€™s first chart hit, ā€œilyā€, and as you can tell from my constant raving, this is the best of the week! I wasnā€™t sure how to feel about the vocals at first, but on second listen, they sound very pleasant! Iā€™m also a huge fan of the production, it sounds so laidback and summery, with the acoustic guitars and tropical beats. Oh, Iā€™m so glad this made the Top 40 in time for summer, because this is an incredible summer hit and Iā€™ve streamed it over a dozen times each day. Very strong 9/10 here, love it to bits!

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

1

Coming from 43-34 is Dani Fryerā€™s ā€œThink About Thingsā€, Icelandā€™s Eurovision entry. I donā€™t know, I donā€™t care for Eurovision as such, but Iā€™m happy a Eurovision song is finally in the Top 40 after all this time! Hereā€™s the thing, while the production comes across as funky with the likeable bass, I donā€™t know how to feel about the saxophone solos after the chorus. I do think itā€™d sound well in the 70s though! Iā€™m a bit mixed on the vocals, Dani either sounds unconvinced or fun. This isnā€™t the best Eurovision song Iā€™ve heard this year (I prefer Tears Getting Sober personally) but this just gets a pass, strong 5/10.

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

2

A fresh start at #27 is KSIā€™s ā€œKilla Killaā€, featuring Aiyana-Lee. Man, Iā€™m certainly liking this! KSI sounds very convinced in his bragging and brings an awesome flow. This is carried over a nice beat that wouldnā€™t sound out of place in a Stormzy song! Even Aiyana-Lee sounds awesome and a bit intense in the song! One thing I need to criticise is that the song is a bit short and I would like to hear more, but based on the songs quality, itā€™s very good. Light 8/10!

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

1

KSI makes another appearance in the chart at #24 with ā€œCapā€, this time with Offset... and no, Iā€™m not liking this, itā€™s the worst of the week. Does KSI need that much Autotune all over him? Heā€™s brought out a flow that isnā€™t great either, but heā€™s alright in the second verse. Offset doesnā€™t have enough added to him either (heā€™s decent though), and I can barely hear him over the very fuzzy beat that didnā€™t sound clear to me at all! It drowns almost everything out. And why is the chorus that repetitive? Sorry, I liked Killa Killa (Houdini grew on me too) but I donā€™t see myself supporting this for a long time. Light 3/10.

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

2

We get to the #1 song of the week. Itā€™s ā€œRain On Meā€ by Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande, and itā€™s good but nowhere near as good as people are making it out to be. I think despite the great chemistry between Gaga and Ariana, the former manages to outshine the latter with her powerful voice during her parts. I think the drop would sound really good in a club, but the ā€œRain... on... me!ā€ doesnā€™t sound very necessary. Iā€™m gonna go into Chromatica when I can, but I like the aesthetic, and I like this a bit. Iā€™m giving this a solid 7/10.

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

1

And thatā€™s it, I believe! If it makes you feel comfortable, Iā€™m going easy on you all with Piranā€™s Emoji Challenge to give you all a chance. Itā€™s been fun producing this review, and Iā€™ll see you guys soon! Also to KSI, your album is fire (minus Cap imo). Keep your hair and keep doing what you do, your channel is hilarious. :)

J

Jstar

3

Hey Coolocelot101, its alright, everyone won't love the song. But I am happy with the 7/10. That is still a very solid score.

Tbh use are kinda getting me angry seeing as even though I am a ksi fan I haven't been toxic towards anybody so u cant just profile everybody also I wanted him to go number 1 cause he deserved it and u lot also like rating his songs low not because of listening to them but because u hate the fanbase and artist. Dissapointed

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

I didnā€™t say that to any KSI fans! I said ā€œto all the trolls who wanted KSI to go baldā€. And donā€™t get me wrong, I actually liked Dissimulation as an album. The only reason I rate a FEW of his songs low (like Cap) is because of the quality, though I rated Killa Killa an 8. Besides, his channel is awesome too!

Also, #2 is still a good result for KSI, and any artist in general.
