Nobody bite my head off but is the charity single a fast track to the top spot? I just think Ladbaby's music is seriously lacking and nowhere near popular enough to enter straight at number one, especially for a THIRD year running.

it’s hard to believe wap was cardi b’s first number 1 and blinding lights was the weeknd’s first when they’ve both been around for a while and have each had massive hits. :o

avatar

Cameron

4

I could definitely see a #1 for The Weeknd coming at some point, not sure if I could see Cardi B getting one lol

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Congrats to LadBaby on getting the Christmas #1, he becomes the third artist to have three Christmas #1s in a row after The Beatles (1963, 1964, 1965) and The Spice Girls (1996, 1997, 1998). Let's begin 2021 with a bang and get BJIAFC to #1.

avatar

If Afterglow can get top 30 on Christmas I can't imagine what will happen to it in January

As for my second list, here are my Top 10 Albums Of 2020...

#1: Taylor Swift – Evermore
#2: Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia
#3: Taylor Swift – Folklore
#4: Machine Gun Kelly – Tickets To My Downfall
#5: Kygo – Golden Hour
#6: Lady Gaga – Chromatica
#7: Ava Max – Heaven &
#8: The 1975 – Notes On A Conditional Form
#9: Echosmith – Lonely Generation
#10: Rina Sawayama – Sawayama

Feel free to discuss yours here too. :)

P

PN

4

Personally, shift Dua to number 1, plus shift The 1975 up and get Ellie Goulding's album Brightest Blue into the top 3 at least, then I'm happy :)

avatar

Foxes

6

I've seen these before but again, I absolutely love that 'Future Nostalgia', 'Golden Hour', 'Heaven & ' and 'SAWAYAMA' all make the Top 10! I'm going to reveal mine on the 27th I think! :D

avatar

Piran

3

I'm glad you love at least half of my list! I look forward to seeing yours on Sunday. :)

avatar

Dua was so close to being #1 for me, but I just didn't like the last two tracks on 'Future Nostalgia' unfortunately.

I'll give her this though... the singles choices that she made this year were absolutely incredible! :D

5) very good
6) meh (didn’t age well)
7) very bad (sorry i just hate ava max)
8) good
9) ok (underrated tho)
10) good (on first listen, could grow)

2: 10/10
3: 10/10
4: 0/10
5: 7/10
6: 9/10
7: 0/10
8: 6/10
9: 6/10
10: 11/10 (Top 3 on my list, still trying to decide my favourite of them all)

I think I’ll post my list either tomorrow or the New Year’s chart.

avatar

Piran

3

Very polarising scores here! :P

I'm glad that you gave all of the albums in my Top 3 a perfect score, but it to see absolutely nothing for 'Tickets To My Fall' & 'Heaven & '. :/

I feel like 'Sawayama' will continue to grow on me in 2021! :D

avatar

Piran

2

I'm glad you think most of this list is good, but it's a shame that 'Chromatica' cooled off on so fast.

I knew that you weren't going to like 'Heaven & ' whatsoever though! :P

You've heard 'Sawayama' too? That's awesome! What are your favourite tracks from it?

Piran

8

I've got a couple of lists for tonight...

Firstly, one that might be a bit controversial, but here are my 10 least favourite songs of 2020 (this is just my opinion, so please don't get offended if a song you like is here!).

#10: Anne-Marie – Birthday
#9: Tory Lanez – Money Over Fallouts
#8: Jason Derulo – Take You Dancing
#7: Central Cee – Loading
#6: Jawsh 685 & Jason Derulo ft BTS – Savage Love [BTS Remix]
#5: KSI ft Smokepurpp & Lil Pump – Poppin’
#4: Ashnikko – Daisy
#3: JVLA – Such A Wh*re [Stellular Remix]
#2: Gabby Barrett – I Hope
#1: Justin Bieber – Yummy

If you want, you can ask why I've put a particular song here & I'll post a full review of it. :)

P

PN

5

I'd, sadly, put the two Derulo songs higher in the list, but I agree with number 1 totally.

avatar

Piran

4

It's a real shame, because Jason Derulo used to be way better & I hope he returns to his signature 2010's hits, rather than anything he attempted this year.

I just want to pretend that 'Yummy' never happened going forward! :P

avatar

Mrsliver

6

Yummy topped everyone's list you can't not hate it it's hilarious how bad it performed

P

PN

5

I said that I didn't like JB, but Yummy is actually shocking.
It's also slightly sad to see Anne-Marie in that list because I agree with you on that as well. She usually makes pretty good music as well

avatar

Piran

4

The thing is, JB's EDM-inspired 'Purpose' was actually a very good album throughout with singles that were deserving of their hit status! I feel that the production that he was using around that time really suited his vocals, so it's really disappointing to see his musical quality drop off this hard. :/

avatar

Piran

5

Mind you, 'I Hope' was close! Thank goodness that never took off outside the US. :/

As for 'Yummy', it's not even bad in an hilarious way either, but more just a shocking embarrassment!

avatar

4

10) bullshoot (i wouldn’t give it a 0/10 anymore tho haha)
9) awful (tory lanez is a jacka**)
8) meh
7) fire
6) omg just kill me now
5) v good (sorry i just find it a lot of fun)
4) banger (the production is hard)
3) bad
2) awful
1) more bullshoot

avatar

⁉️

4

4 is amazing and 3 is alright, but lord the rest .

avatar

Piran

3

Even 'Birthday', the "best" song on this list, would probably get no higher than a strong 2/10 from me! :P

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

2

7 is a banger too 🔥

avatar

Piran

3

So it looks like you agree with seven songs that I put here! :P

We seem to have very differing opinions on 'Loading', 'Poppin' & especially 'Daisy' though, haha.

Top 10 Songs Of 2020 (according to Christmas Top Of The Pops)...

#1: Blinding Lights
#2: Dance Monkey
#3: Roses
#4: Before You Go
#5: Don't Start Now
#6: Rockstar
#7: Head & Heart (😍)
#8: Someone You Loved
#9: Own It
#10: Watermelon Sugar

roses should be 2 places higher

P

PN

4

It's obviously subject to last-minute change though (remember 2018 when One Kiss knocked Drake off his perch...)

avatar

David N'jama

6

The number 10 is quite surprising though

P

PN

4

I really don't understand how it got there. It didn't even last that long in the top 20 (unlike Adore You)

avatar

Piran

4

Same... I'm also surprised that 'The Box' isn't here, as well as Lewis Capaldi getting two songs in the Top 10 despite not really releasing anything this year! :O

avatar

David N'jama

4

His album was highly successful

avatar

Piran

4

Yeah, plus, 'Someone You Loved' somehow returned to the Top 10 of the singles chart at the start of the year, even though it was still on ACR most of the time back then! :P

avatar

Piran

3

True, it could all change in the final week, but there's absolutely no way that 'Dance Monkey' is catching up with 'Blinding Lights' now! :P

avatar

Piran

5

Hmm... I'd say that 'Head & Heart' should be six places higher! ;)

P

PN

4

I know, Blinding Lights being number one was nailed in, but I was mainly talking about positions lower in the table, like where Watermelon Sugar is right now, for example

avatar

Piran

3

Oh sure, 'Watermelon Sugar' could easily be knocked out of the Top 10, plus 'Head & Heart' might be able to swap places with 'Rockstar'. :)

4

1

Blinding lights ruled. but this is a darn good list

avatar

Piran

6

It that 'Willow' fell all the way from #3 to #37 this week, but I was pleasantly surprised by 'Afterglow' & while I know that Ed Sheeran never seems to take a break, I actually really like this new song of his. :)

avatar

Foxes

6

Ed took a break for the entirety of 2016 and also pretty much the entirety of 2020 lol. He even said when releasing 'Afterglow' that he's not off break yet, he just wanted to put out a song for his fans.

P

PN

4

I didn't listen to it on the chart show today. What's it like?

avatar

Piran

3

It's fairly simple really; it's just Ed's vocals & an acoustic guitar, but the melody on the hook is very soothing! I don't think it would do anything big as a single by any means, but for a one-off song for his fans, I definitely appreciate it. :)

avatar

Piran

4

Yeah, if you think about it, he only put out an album last year, so I don't expect anything big from him in 2021 either.

The artists I really want to see return next year are: Adele, Rihanna & Kendrick Lamar! :D

P

PN

5

Fair enough, I can see why you like it, and why I might like it too. But on your last sentence, you really never know - it's Ed Sheeran for crying out loud, so a song of his is naturally going top 20 at least, even if it is a surprise

P

PN

4

Rihanna kind of returned this year, but I can see what you mean, and I totally agree!

avatar

Piran

3

Only featuring on one song, as far as I'm aware, but I'm waiting for a full album from her (it's been nearly five years now!). :P

avatar

Piran

3

I agree that anything Ed releases will become a hit at this point in his career, no matter how good or bad it is! :P

Top 20 without Christmas songs...

#1: Positions
#2: Sweet Melody
#3: Whoopty
#4: 34+35
#5: Afterglow
#6: Without You
#7: Prisoner
#8: Midnight Sky
#9: Willow
#10: Get Out My Head

#11: Paradise
#12: Holy
#13: Therefore I Am
#14: Really Love
#15: Mood
#16: Loading
#17: Head & Heart
#18: Monster
#19: Gnat
#20: Blinding Lights

avatar

GS

6

I don't think love is a compass or forever young will be in the top 100 next week because they are from christmas ads

avatar

Piran

5

I guess it's difficult to tell with those ones, as how do we know that they might not have become hits anyway? This is where, like with 'Stay Another Day', the debate of whether or not something is a Christmas song or not comes in! :P

avatar

David N'jama

4

Of course, Ari rules 'em all

avatar

Piran

4

I think 'Positions' is going on ACR next week though, so out of the possible contenders, I hope that either Little Mix or Ed Sheeran will be #1 on New Year's Day. :)

avatar

David N'jama

3

It could get a reset the following week though

avatar

Piran

4

Possibly, but at least it means we'll almost certainly get a brand new #1 next week, which should make the New Year's chart a bit more exciting than this one. :)

J

jorge

3

So piran what’s you’re thoughts on Ed Sheerans new track?

avatar

Piran

2

'Afterglow'? I really like it actually! :D

What do you think of it?

P

PN

4

The fact that LadBaby is number one was far too obvious, so let's dwell on other matters, shall we?
Fair play to Paradise for staying in the top 40 despite the avalanche; it would be at number 11 if there weren't Christmas songs.

Ed Sheeran for number one next week? You definitely can't rule it out because he is Ed Sheeran after all - I didn't listen to the song so have no idea what it's like.

Whoopty would be number 3 without Christmas and charity songs - I'm not the biggest fan of the song at all, so to see it there isn't great, but still.

Alright, allow me to get sick at number 8. How has it been allowed to chart this highly! It is a really underwhelming version of the original, and saddening as well. I don't really like Bieber, so this makes matters worse!

Levitating dropped 50 places! I know it was caught up in the avalanche, but I'm pretty sure it's not on ACR, so how did it drop so much?

The NHS song didn't even make the top 40! I know the original was heavily on ACR, but still, not even making the top 40 is really sad.

There is one great thing about this chart though: Ellie at number 69 :)

avatar

Rector

2

Levitating is on ACR. Ed is dropping a lot these few days so maybe not number one methinks. Whoopty would be #1 if positions and Sweet Melody goes on ACR (which they are at risk of next week) Everything else I agree :)

P

PN

4

Positions probably will, Sweet Melody maybe not because of the Jesy Nelson news. To be honest, I want it to chart highly (Sweet Melody that is)

avatar

Piran

7

While it wouldn't have been my personal choice for the Christmas #1, I'm happy that LadBaby raised all that money to combat food poverty across the UK!

It's such a shame that the NHS Choir aren't even in the Top 40 though! Every single person who works of them to serve our country should be incredibly proud of what they're doing for us. :)
