Psst, in the future, try to make sure you leave a space after the conclusion of a sentence. Otherwise, Disqus thinks you're trying to write a link and autogenerates it.

OMG YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ONE DANCE IS FINALLY OFF NO.1!!!!!!!!! I AM SO ECSTATIC!!!!!
Perfect Strangers would have been the 'perfect' song to get to no.1, but Cold Water is good too!
Also, good to see songs such as Treat You Better, Final Song, Who Do You Think Of?, Alarm, Cruel and All In My Head (Flex) climbing up the top 100! These are all great songs which I hope will do well in the future! Especially the latter, which is basically my favourite song which I'm pretty sure will enter the top 40 on my birthday next week! (My perfect present)
Also, nice to see one of my personal favourites of 2016, Say You Do, re-enter the top 100 after quite a long time out!
One bad thing is that Make Me... went down 50 places to 92- that's another good song too.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

Finally someone else who likes Treat You Better. Can't say the same about Flex though, it's even worse than Work From Home.

avatar

Calum Pk7

1) Treat You Better is the UK's number 6 so millions of people like it,
2) you say that like Work From Home is bad- it really isn't.

Everyone on here seems to hate TYB though and 5H

Okay so Katy Perry isn't doing so bad but all returning artists lately haven't done well. Key in point: Britney

I agree on this point, Britney's come back single has been a completely flop, as well as Katy's

So here is my usual review on the UK charts this week:
- Big congratulations to: Major Lazer, Justin Bieber & MO as 'Cold Water' enters straight in at #1 on the singles chart. 15 weeks was way too long for 'One Dance' to be at the top for, hence I am so pleased that it was FINALLY dethroned... & by quite a good dance song as well. I've started to like JB a lot more since his 'Purpose' album than I did before & 'Cold Water' is now his 4th UK #1 (he didn't have any this time last year). Great to see Major Lazer & MO go to the top of the charts for the first time too. Fun fact: Zayn's 'Pillowtalk' is the only other song released in 2016 to debut at #1 on the Official Charts.
- The rest of the Top 40 remains quite stationary though, other than: M.O, Anne Marie & Bastille being the most noticable climbers. I'd quite like to see 'Perfect Strangers' as the next #1 now, because it would be a bit unfair if Jonas Blue was blocked at #2 twice.
- I guess today makes up for 'Lean On' not going to #1 last summer (yet 'Lean On' is apparently the most streamed song across the world of all-time), but what I am pleased to see is that Drake didn't match Bryan Adams' record of 16 weeks. So a really good chart today & it'll be interesting to see if 'Cold Water' will also get a run at the top for a few weeks. :)

Hate to break it to you Drake but the record is no longer yours to make as you are no longer on the top spot mate.

avatar

KieranS

0

Why is it bieber needs other people on his tracks to get him them number 1s

avatar

Piran

1

Well WDYM didn't have anybody feature on it, 'Sorry' was produced by Skrillex & 'Love Yourself' was co-written by Ed Sheeran, but neither Skrillex nor Ed are credited on either song. That means that 'Cold Water' is the 1st time JB has gone to #1 as part of an official collaboration.

I reckon a new number one next week? The charts are back on board!

avatar

Aga Arangcon

0

cold water's gonna stay a little longer there, probably as long as one dance is.

avatar

I.B.

0

A week or two at the most and we will move on from there. There are hundreds of song releases out this summer!

avatar

Dan Love

1

That's unless One Dance gets a video, then it will probably go back to number 1.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Part of the reason it got 15 weeks was due to the fact it had no video on YouTube whatsoever so people had to resort to streaming services

R

RIME

0

YouTube streams aren't part of the UK formula, so if anything a video will hasten the demise of One Dance since it'll leech away users who would otherwise listen on Spotify.

avatar

where is Make Me Ooh??? 40 more down???
jonas blue next nº1 please!

avatar

Painmix King

1

Only 3 new entries in the entire Top 100. The No.1, then it's No.70 and 97. Absolutely ridiculous!

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

3

Are you dumb? There's a new number 1 and all YOU care about is the number of new entries? Number 1 was one of them FFS!

avatar

James England

Yeah, not exactly a great showcase for new music, is it!

C

chartwatcher

Maybe he follows new entries doesn't make him dumb does it, his choice and his opinion, an odd aggressive response, and you are fixated on one thing, we are all happy about the new number 1 but their is more to the chart than that, and I think he means it seems off that the other 2 entries came in so low in comparison, same as Olly Murs coming in at 23 weeks back when Major Lazer gets number 1, I see your point of view but you were rude to this guy, I don't think a personal preference make's you "dumb".

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

Meh I kind of overreacted but I'm sick of people whining over lack of new entries in the chart constantly

C

avatar

Edward Sallas

0

Sheesh, there's only 2 good songs in the top 20. And that's the modern day classic that is 'This Girl' and Justin's 'Can't Stop The Feeling'. Everything else is generic club-pop or that whiny Calum Scott butcher-job.

SH

Scott Harris

6

Hallelujah! Start the fireworks, because One Dance is finally of the top spot!

avatar

Rhys Daley

2

About time. Well done to Major Lazer with their first UK Number 1. I reckon this could stay for quite a while. On the other hand, maybe Jonas Blue could nab it. Either way, I'm looking forward to more movement at the top.

Although, just when we got rid of Justin bieber...

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Kind of irrelevant but can you believe Desire has almost logged a whole year combined in the top 100?

R

RIME

0

I can. It got a second version featuring Tove Lo halfway into its run that got it into the top 40.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

True but it still wasn't very successful in the 40.

R

RIME

0

Yes, but a top 40 profile at all was all it needed as it racked up 5 or so top 40 weeks and just needed one last season of inertia to cross the year mark.

avatar

Dan Love

2

Can you believe that Mr. Brightside (at number 86) has logged over 2 years in the top 100 and only 6 weeks in the top 40?

avatar

Dan Love

1

Also did you notice Sia - Chandelier spending it's 100th week in the top 100? That makes it the 11th song in the history of the chart to reach triple-figures.

Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran is also on 99 weeks so if it can spend another week it will be the 12th.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Haha no! I think Desire is becoming the new Mr Brightside. Not as good though >:)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Where can you find the top 10?

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

Those two songs are SO BORING. They have been in the top 100 almost since I paid attention to the charts!! (I'm only 14). I REALLY HOPE THEY GO OUT- especially Chandelier. Shut Up And Dance and Uptown Funk too- these songs are ancient. How do people still buy these?

avatar

Calum Pk7

More like 2 years old (in the case of Chandelier and Thinking Out Loud)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

I know but people are bashing songs for being only a tiny bit 'old'. I was exaggerating

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

2

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET THE F**K IN THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DRAKE HAS BEEN TOPPLED AND HAS LITTLE CHANCE OF COMING BACK WITH ONE DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bit mad Anne Marie has entered the 40 but the number 1 is the main thing. Also, good job on Olly climbing a bit.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

ALSO GO ON MR. MENDES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

avatar

Edward Sallas

0

Oh god no, that Mendes song is so monotonous. Sounds exactly like his last one.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

You are referring to 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' when you say 'last one' right?

avatar

Dan Love

0

I hate that song. It's annoying, generic and boring.

R

RIME

1

No, I'd guess he's talking about "Stitches", as it and "Treat You Better" sound like variations of each other.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

All three of those are how I describe 5H's new song

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

I don't agree with that. Also, lyrics-wise one is about breakup, the other is about jealousy

avatar

Scott Burdon

Streaming should not be counted for charts. Only sales or downloading for example should count.. It is like radio play.

R

RIME

1

Radio is chosen by a select few programmers. Streaming is chosen by hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of UK listeners. Radio generates flat royalties that vary wildly by publisher, while streaming has a fairly constant derivable royalty rate to weigh against digital sales. There's a fair difference.

avatar

Scott Burdon

1

Streaming can be done over and over. To download or buy is or was usually once.

R

RIME

1

And it takes a hundred streams to match a single digital sale. If you stream even one song strongly enough to make an equivalent sale, I'd say it logistically feels valid along with the statistics.

S

Thank goodness, but it's still sad that Perfect Stangers was robbed of a No.1. The lower end of the top 40 has good movement, with Charlie Puth and Olly Murs climbing and Anne-Marie entering the top 40.

It looks like it has a fighting chance yet since Cold Water will have sophomore week slump most likely. Either that or Dancing On My Own looks primed to be the next topper.

Thank the gods!!!! I never ever thought I'd be grateful to see Bieber at number 1 but if it means that Drake's completely unmemorable non-entity of a song doesn't break the record then I'm very happy. That is of course until Cold Water has been number 1 for an eternity, but then at least it's a better record

Excuse me!!!!! Mr!!!!! Drake is one of thee best song writers in the world! How dare you diss him!!!! But yeah one dance has been on no.1 for quite a long time but that shows how good he is!!!!! There are far worse less talented people than one direction, I am not a fan by any means but it is a sweeping statement to suggest all their songs are rubbish. As far as those kind of bands go they were one if the best, and they can sing very well live. The vamps are also good but some boy bands are rubbish. One D are better since Zayn left, songs wise, not a Bieber fan I must say, the odd ok song but not my thing
