LadBaby pull out of Official Christmas Number 1 race 2023

The race for this year's Official Christmas Number 1 has just been blown wide open.
LadBaby step down from Christmas Number 1 race

LadBaby are stepping down from the race for the 2023 Official Christmas Number 1 single, after a record-breaking streak of five consecutive Christmas Number 1 wins, meaning this year's Christmas Number 1 is well and truly UP. FOR. GRABS.

Official Charts can confirm that internet stars LadBaby - Mark and Roxanne Hoyle - will not release a new single to challenge for the most important chart-topper of the year in 2023. Bookies' favourites LadBaby are instead going to pass the baton to another hopeful this year, but who will it be?

In 2022, as the husband and wife duo landed the coveted festive chart spot for a fifth time with Food Aid, LadBaby set a UK Official Chart record as the first act to ever score five consecutive UK Official Christmas Number 1 singles. They previously stood equal with The Beatles, who managed four non-consecutive Christmas Number 1s to their name.

MORE: When will 2023's Official Christmas Number 1 single be announced?

At the time of entering the record books, LadBaby told Official Charts, "We want to say thank you to everyone who has supported us for the last five years. A massive apology to The Beatles, and to all The Beatles’ fans…I’m sorry! The charity wins. The Trussell Trust gets Christmas Number 1 again!"

In full, LadBaby's run of Official Christmas Number 1s is: We Built This City (2018), I Love Sausage Rolls (2019), Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ (2020), Sausage Rolls For Everyone with Ed Sheeran and Elton John (2021) and Food Aid (2022).

Proceeds from the singles went to food bank charity The Trussell Trust.

2018 - 2022: LadBaby's Christmas Number 1 lifetime success in numbers

According to new Official Charts Company data unveiled today, during their impressive five-year Christmas Number 1 campaigning period, LadBaby have generated over 754,000 combined UK chart sales.

Their most-downloaded track, and biggest festive hit overall to date, comes courtesy of Christmas Number 1 2020 with Don't Stop Me Eatin', its lifetime total now stands at over 185,000 units, the song reached the top spot with a tally of 158,000 in its week of release three years ago.

LadBaby's debut Christmas Number 1 from 2018, We Built This City, claims the title of their most-streamed track to date, amassing a cool 10.8 million combined audio and video streams since release. Their first foray into the festive chart spotlight was originally sealed with 75,000 units, but its proved to be the one with most legs, having doubled its running total since to over 158,000.

And while the public's enthusiasm for LadBaby chart toppers may have waned somewhat last year giving them a tougher chart battle than on previous outings, the pair still managed to rally their troops to clinch victory, and their best seller of them all physically too. 2022's Christmas Number 1 Food Aid has shifted just shy of 5,000 physical copies since last December.

Check out LadBaby's lifetime success in numbers below, Official Charts data correct up to Friday 17 November 2023.

Finally this gold diggers are out of Xmas, I still can't believe how the public don't understand that they don't do this for charity, the total opposite, they do it to get attention to their channel, to increase views and monetize, the excuse is charity, they barely sold the minimum but they monetize greatly for this, they're just scammers and God is good to have them away from the charts, finally!

I still think christmas charts is a week early isnt it why would it be 22nd December the sales/units would be  15th to 21st December, that a week early the following week after that calculates the big day data so Christmas Charts Singles rundown would be 29th December that be the christmas week's data  units and sales from 22nd, 23rd, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, 27th and 28th December.

Being a chart fan I understand what you're saying and you're correct. The data for Christmas week will be on announced on the 29th December 2023.

However, it's just a bit of fun and I mainly believe it's the glory of who get's to say "I'm number one on Christmas Day"

Great news!

As much as i love Xmas, i really dislike Ladbaby claiming the number 1 spot year after year with a song that has nothing to do with Xmas at the first place!!

As they always release their single for a charity, they can release any song during the year!! It doesn't have to be during Xmas time!!

because they don't care about charity, it's just an excuse to get more view to their channel and monetize, for their personal gain. But dumb public falls for these gold diggers / scammers. Great that they're out

They've got a maximum sales week of 158,000.

An all-time total across 5 years and 5 records of 750,000.

There was a time 158,000 wouldn't be enough for #1 in a normal week, let alone Christmas. Most Christmas hits I remember sold more than their lifetime total in one week! Especially for Christmas week itself.
