It was previously reported that George Michael's team are "working really hard" to try and get Last Christmas to Number 1 for the very first time, and a new product coming out could help do just that.

To mark the Wham! classic's 35th anniversary, a 7" white vinyl single is being released on Friday December 13, the day that the Christmas Number 1 2019 race kicks off.

The commemorative re-release is described as "a strictly limited edition replica" of the 1984 original, and mirroring that, features Everything She Wants as a double A-side. The new pressing is housed in a gatefold sleeve and is priced at £8.

On release, Last Christmas peaked at Number 2 behind Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas. Along the way with digital downloads included, Last Christmas has become the best-selling track to never reach the summit of the Official Singles Chart, has re-charted each year since 2007, and returned to its peak position in 2017. Last year, George & Andrew topped out at Number 3. Look back at how Last Christmas has charted over the years.

Last Christmas will also be boosted by a new rom-com movie of the same name. The soundtrack to the film - which features a previously unreleased George song - debuted at Number 11 on the Official Albums Chart two weeks, rising to Number 9 on last week's chart, become George's ninth UK Top 10 album. Other heritage festive songs are also going all guns blazing to get to Number 1 for the first time. Despite its popularity, Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You has also never topped the Official Singles Chart, and this year sees Mariah release the song on vinyl and cassette, release a 25th anniversary edition of the album it features on, and be the face of Walkers crisps' Xmas ad campaign.

I'll never understand people's fascination for vinyl records today. I loved them back in the day but for me vinyl is over since the 90's.

If they would release a CD release replica of the original single, this I woud buy, but a vinyl, no way, no matter what color they paint on it. :(
