Good to see a lot of climbers including olly Murs, Nathan Sykes and Robbie williams in the top 40, some climbers and new entries. I hope Zara Larrsonns song entering just outside the top 40 stays out of the top 40, but it won't.

Well done to Clean Bandit on making it 2 weeks at number 1 with Rockabye! It is still a really good song imo and deserves to be there. However, you`ve gotta give credit to James Arthur, SYWLG is STILL up there challenging putting up a good fight aswell. SYWLG will be in the top 10 comes end of the year charts for sure. Elsewhere, good to see Black Beatles in the top 5, i hardly know the lyrics but it`s really catchy and i think that will be Clean Bandit`s main challengers for number 1 next week. Not much else going on in the top 10, Sia has fallen out of it just as i begin to like the greatest, LOL. Happy Olly Murs is climbing high, i do like Grow up. Hoping Jonas Blue and Louisa Johnson can climb up the charts but i`m not sure it`s likely.
As for next week, the chart will be all over the place with the release of the new NOW album.I expect to see The Weeknd and Craig David chart in the top 20 with there new singles, i also think Clean Bandit will make it 3 weeks at number 1. and i would not be suprised if Drake returns to the top 10 with fake Love.
Thanks all for reading, have a good weekend :)

No Leonard Cohen in top 40 is a travesty. The UK should be ashamed.

Sigma feat. Birdy With Come And Find Me is a great track. The vid is quite a cheeky move with Millie Bobby Brown miming the singing of Birdy in their LA video. Love it. Birdy delivers solid vocals and the build up in the track is very nice.
Then, there is and their On Hold. That too, just fantastic stuff. Unusual and very likeble.

same goes for take that...they've had 1 album over here, 'nobody else' with a final peak of #69 on 11/18/1995 *around this time 21 yrs ago!* here was the top 10 for that week on the 200 chart:

1. the dogg pound/dogg food
2. mariah/daydream
3. cypress hill/III
4. alanis morrisette/jagged little pill
5. smashing pumpkins/mellon collie and infinite sadness
6. alan jackson/greatest hits
7. hootie and the blowfish/cracked rear view
8. eightball/on top of the world
9. dangerous minds soundtrack
10. janet jackson/design of a decade

ok, 'nobody else' enters on 9/16/1995 @ #180-155-137-127-136-105-108-69 *final peak*. yeah same thing, not a good time to bring an unknown uk act...the spice girls will come to the u.s. the following year in 1996, during a time when many big acts will have already run their courses. the spice girls came to the u.s. @ the right time, there's no other way to say it.

back to take that...looking @ the top 30 during the time their album is on the chart...there's just too many big sellers occupying the top slots and cementing their spots for many weeks, even mos.! even in the top 10 when the album reaches it's final peak of #69, in the top 10 alone are 2 albums that are huge selling top 10 mainstays: hootie's cracked rear view and alanis' jagged little pill, both will reach 16x plat. that's right, 16 mill :/.

but overall, i hope the uk labels in the future will follow the bb charts and the u.s. music scene more and not get too distracted with big sales. not everyone here can achieve big numbers, so my suggestion would be just to have fun with it and try to leave any big expectations @ the door and just let time take it's course. but good try for take that :). 1D sure has a lot of 'thank you's' in order ;)

well, i did find out that bbmak has released 2 albums in the u.s. we'll take a look @ the 1st one 'sooner or later' with a final peak of #38 on 8/12/2000, here was the top 10 on the 200 albums chart that week:

1. now 4 * i had this album!*
2. britney spear/oops i did it again
3. nelly/country grammar
4. eminem/marshall mathers lp
5. nsync/ no strings attached
6. papa roach/infest
7. creed/human clay
8. 3 doors down/the better life
9. nutty professor 2
10. b.b. king/riding with the king

'sooner or later' enters the 200 chart on 6/3/2000 @ #130-138-111-102-79-66-70-57-48-38 *final peak*.

ok, so again, i still feel this was bad timing to come to the u.s. and obviously uk labels were dazzled by the huge u.s. sales going on during this year and the previous 2 yrs. also, prob. thinking their acts could do the same...big mistake! both the dixie chicks and shania twain had earlier albums that didn't do anything and both acts took years to make it in the u.s.

so, we enter in the lower bracket of the chart...have some decent jumps to get in the top 100. and then some decent see-sawing to reach the top 40 bracket. so, in the end bbmak were able to achieve a gold album over here, but still unable to compete with the mainstream u.s. artists. goes to show how hard it really is to make it over here...1D should be very thankful that their start had more positive results. but of course, i always say 'there's room for everyone' and def. a decent start for bbmak :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

ok, so for the bb 200 albums chart, westlife has had only 1 album released over here. final peak is #129...too hard to compete with the various momentums going on that year. simon cowell *or whoever makes those decisions* should've held off until momentums cooled down. anyway, here was the top 10 when westlife's u.s. debut album 'westlife' peaked @ #129.

1. eminem/marshall mathers lp
2. britney spears/oops, i did it again
3. kid rock/history of rock
4. nsync/no strings attached
5. matchbox 20/mad season
6. creed/human clay
7. mission impossible 2 *soundtrack*
8. santana/supernatural
9. sisqo/unleash the dragon
10. joe/my name is joe

so, lots of big sellers: eminem and britney would've already had their huge history-making 1st week sales about a month prior to this date. nsync would've been close to 10x plat. *10 million* and creed and santana both would have diamond albums, creed will go 11x plat. and santana will go 15x plat :/. i still don't understand why westlife's label picked that timing to bring them here...but anyhow, here's their album's chart run:

on 5/6/2000 'westlife' debuts @ #180-168-182-186-167-168-163-129 *final peak*. so, not enough promotion *i would've suggested that westlife join nsync on their upcoming tour or bsb's tour in 1999* and we can't crack the top 100 of the chart. basically this chart ranks sales as the main chart factor and all thru the top 50 is flooded with huge multi-plat. and diamond albums. even huge sellers can't make the #1 spot *if it makes westlife feel better, shania twain's 'come on over album' going 20x plat. only peaked @ #2*. so a good try, but their label needed to pay more attn. to the u.s. music scene.

avatar

Maz

1

Westlife joins Nsync on their upcoming tour or BSB's tour, I don't think it's going to happen. You know they're not as a group anymore, especially Westlife.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i meant, back in 2000, if westlife and bbmak had gone on tour with bsb or nsync, maybe things would've turned out different.

avatar

Maz

1

I still think they would haven't done that, seems America's not really friendly with UK/ Ireland boy bands like Take That, Boyzone, A1 etc except for One Direction. Westlife, BSB and NKOTB had visited to here many times, sadly I never watch them even once.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, i just wished things had turned out more different, but back in 2000 we had too many artists selling millions of albums and unfortunately, both bbmak's and westlife's labels weren't paying any attn. to the u.s. music scene. there's just no other way to say it.

avatar

Maz

1

Well you know it's not going to happen anymore, even though I really doubt if Adele could sell at 3 millions in first week. Streaming is the new formula, people don't have to buy to listen to the music they want.
I think because in 2000 BSB and NSYNC were really huge in the US, just like Westlife in UK, so I don't think Westlife will sell well if their competitors are BSB and NSYNC.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, looking back on that year today, if their label paid more attn. to the u.s. music scene i do think bbmak and westlife could've had a better u.s. debut. look @ shania twain, she's not from the u.s. and look how great she did.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

bbmak is also another uk group with 1 major u.s. hit with 'back here'. the final peak would be #13 on 7/29/2000 and here was the top 10 for that specific week:

1. nsync/it's gonna be me
2. matchbox 20/bent
3. vertical horizon/everything you want
4. aaliyah/try again
5. joe/i wanna know
6. nine days/absolutely (story of a girl)
7. creed/higher
8. destiny's child/jumpin' jumpin'
9. pink/there you go
10. toni braxton/he wasn't man enough

so, 'back here' enters on 4/29/2000 *during this time, nsync was red-hot in the beginning of their momentum. another reason why i think it was a huge mistake for westlife and bbmak to make their u.s. debuts around that time* @ #99-86-60-52-38 *westlife's 'swear it again' is #37*-28-21-18-18-19-15-18-13.

ok, so we debut @ the bottom of the chart and have 3 really good jumps to the mid-way point of the chart. u.s. radio is quickly picking up the song and playing it more each week (i also think the song must've done great with adult contemporary and easy listening stations). we jump right into the top 40 in the 5th week and keep climbing into the top 20. and when you're in the top 20, that's very good! u.s. radio is playing all 100 songs on the chart as well as songs that make the bubbling under chart *#101-125* and not even making either chart. so, the radio stations are going thru tons of different songs each week, even today.

we keep a steady run in the top 20, looks like airplay slightly decreased from #15-18 and then a final peak of #13. the top 10 is flooded with mainstays (my wording for songs/artists that just stay in the top 10 week after week, etc.). so, also a good run for bbmak :). when nsync hits #1, they're already close to diamond status, so i think both westlife's and bbmak's labels were trying to dip into the huge u.s. sales going on, but obviously both groups got buried under all the avalanches. bbmak will remain in the top 20 for another 2 mos.! but during that time more u.s. artists are having their momentums going...too much stiff competition for bbmak and westlife. but still, def. a good hot 100 debut!

It's interesting to see Fifth Harmony's single "That's My Girl" has clearly taken off in the UK, but has yet to do much in the USA. I definitely like the charts here more!

avatar

Piran

1

I'm really pleased that 'That's My Girl' is performing very well inside of the UK Top 40 & there's a chance that it could debut on the Hot 100 next week. It's one of my favourite songs from Fifth Harmony's '7/27' album! :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

where's 'that's my girl' on the hot 100? yeah, the charts here are so different compared to bb. look @ little mix, they debuted @ #1 over here in the uk, if that'd happen in the states, they'd be the 1st female group to do so.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate good morning! i just put up my bbmak and take that albums' throwbacks...i have another 1 for bbmak's 2nd album over here (didn't know they had 2 albums here) lemme know if you wanna check it out ;). been too busy stirring up *bleep* on an article one of the fifth harmony members wrote an open letter to trump...i swear, it's been too much fun! :D

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! Yeah it looks like you've been on that Fifth Harmony article all day. Camila is probably my favourite member, but Lauren is definitely 2nd. :)
Well I hope you've not been too lonely without me or Jstar on here today, but I'm available to chat for a couple of hours now if you want. I should be on for the BB200 article tomorrow, but only after about 10am your time. I still want to be the 1st comment though! :D
Oh I saw your BBMAK & Take That throwbacks & thanks for posting them. Did you know that Robbie Williams has had 31 UK Top 10 singles? That's as a solo artist, so not including the Take That hits. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hahaha!!! yep, i'm stirring up the *bleep* storm LOL! making all the righties mad :). but lauren has the right to express her concerns about donald trump just like the right have been criticizing obama since the beginning of his term. plus, i was laughing my *bleep* off :D

well, my dad will be stopping by soon, but i should be back on...i'll take a break from the *bleep* storm. ;) well, i sure missed chatting with you and jstar, so i just had to do something to occupy my time ;)

he's had 31 top 10 hits? wow! he'd give madonna run for her money over here ;). well, i did have a throwback for bbmak's 2nd album, but i just wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings :(. the 2nd album didn't do well over here. or i can just tell you in our chat. hey, brb ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Well I was on my phone earlier & I had a brief read at you debating the other commenters there. I think that article now has 800+ comments, so more than most BB200 articles! :) LOL
Regarding Jstar, I hope everything went well for him today. I've got my #4-peaking songs list ready for tomorrow, meanwhile my lists will be 'M' & 'N' songs, along with our personal Top 10 songs of the week as usual. :D
I found out that is Robbie also had 31 Top 10 hits in the US, we would have the fourth most of any artist of all-time. The current Top 3 for most Hot 100 Top 10 singles is: Madonna (38), Elvis Presley (36, including pre-Hot100) & The Beatles (34). ;)
Yeah I'd be happy to see your 2nd BBMAK throwback in our chat. Oh I just wanted to ask why you think your posts are hurting other people's feelings? I don't think they are at all.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

sorry mate, my dad stopped by, i also did some packing today, so i wasn't lonely ;D. and yes, that article got heated, responded to each and every person :D!

ok, #4 peaking songs and m & n songs? ok, cool! well, i just thought maybe our westlife mates, bbmak and take that mates would see my throwbacks & it would bring up some sad times :/ meaning, i'd hate for their feelings to be hurt or anything.

and i'll put bbmak's 2nd album in another post under our chat ;) brb...& as far as top 10's let's not forget paul mccartney with about 57 and mj has 40 or 41 altogether.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

bbmak's 2nd album 'into your head' enters @ #25 on 9/14/2000. #25-58-105-134-190. here was the top 10 the week bbmak debuted @ #25:

1. dixie chicks/home
2. eminem/eminem show
3. avril lavigne/let go
4. nelly/nellyville
5. coldplay/a crush of blood to the head
6. eve/eve-olution
7. bruce springsteen/the rising
8. james taylor/october road
9. clipse/lord willin'
10. now 10

avatar

Piran

1

Oh yeah, if we're counting both solo hits as well as in groups, then MJ & Paul McCartney would easily have the record. :)
Well I also did some packing today, as I'm getting the train back to University, so that's why I won't be until late tomorrow. I'm sure you'll have a fun chat with Jstar while I'm not on here. :D
Well over here Elvis Presley has had 77 Top 10 hits, with 21 of them going to #1. I also found out that over here, Westlife have the record of most consecutive Top 5 singles (22) & Madonna has the record of most consecutive singles to reach the Top 10 (35).
So which throwbacks do you want to discuss for next week then? ;)

avatar

Piran

1

That was definitely a good Top 10 for the BB200 then! Even though I would only have been two years old then, I still remember: #2, #3, #4 & #5. :)
Which albums did you like most from the BB200's Top 10 that week?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

elvis has 77 uk top 10 hits! :0!!! holy *bleep*! :D i'll hop over to the uk charts page...that's crazy 77 top 10 hits! oh don't forget i'll be moving soon in the coming wks. so i may not be on here too much. we'll see, but i'll be busy packing and cleaning out my apt.

well, i still wanna do some connor maynard throwbacks...but do you think it'd hurt his feelings? :D i mean, i just would hate for him to see all that and his feelings might be hurt. and i def. wanna do my bodyguard soundtrack throwbacks for this coming week.

oh on mon. it'll be around 67*! and it'll start getting colder over here...hard to believe it'd be 40* hotter a few mos. back :)

avatar

Piran

1

Well Wiki say 77 & the Official Charts archives say 76, but you get the idea; that's an incredible achievement! :)
So where are you moving to then? Are you still going to be in Tucson or going somewhere further away?
Conor Maynard could only reach the Bubbling Under Charts in the US, right? Well I could always post his UK chart performance in our chat if you want me to. :D
67* is what we would be getting at the start of September & over here, the temperature is now around 45* at day, but 35* at night! :O

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

moving in with my dad and yes still staying in tucson :). oh i see that mj has 43 top 10 hits! i counted 56 uk top 10's for mj counting the j5, the jacksons and their duet with mick jagger...that's also so crazy! that's way more than madonna over here.

yeah, connor didn't reach too much success over here. but if you can tell me his uk stats, that'd be great. :) also, who are: florence and the machine, kaiser chiefs and rudimental? i saw their pics on the official charts page.

avatar

Piran

1

Oh Madonna has certainly performed well on our singles chart, with 63 Top 10s including 13 #1s. :)
Well I don't want to make my posts too long, so I'll just do one artist per post for these UK throwbacks, so here are some stats for Conor Maynard...
- His debut single, 'Can't Stay No', entered at #2 on the 04/22/2012 dated chart, but only lasted 2 weeks in the Top 10. The #1 this week was 'Call Me Maybe' by Carly Rae Jepsen.
- He achieved three more Top 10 hits from his debut album called 'Contrast'. The other Top 10 singles were: 'Vegas Girl (#4 UK, #1 Bubbling Under US), 'Turn Around' (#8, #10 Bubbling Under US) & 'Animal' (#6 UK). The album descended down the charts very fast, but did debut at #1 on 08/11/2012.
- 'R U Crazy?' became his 5th UK Top 10 single as it peaked at #4. It was released in 2013, but we still haven't got a second studio album from him yet.
- Last year, 'Talking About' didn't even make the Top 40 on the singles chart & he released a covers album that barely made the Top 200. That said, I think we'll see him higher up in the charts again when he finally does release his next studio album.
I might be a few minutes, but I'll find some stats for the rest of those artists you mentioned now. Sorry about the wait! ;) LOL

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

63 top 10 hits!!?? dang!! ;)))! yeah i was wondering what was taking so long LOL! but same here when i'm doing my throwbacks, esp. the big sellers like the dixie chicks' wide open spaces album? even i didn't know they were on the albums chart for 2 yrs!! i started liking them when they were about 6-8x plat. and were making the rounds on all the u.s. awards shows.

and yes, i'd like for you to update me on connor's upcoming album and such...i really felt for him over here. but see, we both know it's very hard to make it over here, but he can always come back and re-try, like going on tour with lm, ed sheeran, etc.

avatar

Piran

1

So here are the UK throwbacks for the rest of the artists...
Florence & The Machine:
- 'Spectrum [Say My Name]' is their only UK #1 single, which features Calvin Harris. It was #1 for 3 weeks & even debuted atop our charts 07/21/2012.
- The group have received 2 further Top 10s, which were 'You Got The Love' (#5) & a remix of that song with British rapper Dizzee Rascal (#2).
- They perform better on the albums chart though, as all 3 of their studio albums have reached #1. They are: 'Lungs', 'Ceremonials' & 'How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful'. The latter was atop the BB200 last June.
- The vocalist, Florence Welch, appears as a featured artist on Calvin Harris' 'Sweet Nothing'. It reached #1 in the UK & #10 on the Hot 100.
Rudimental:
- Nothing big for them in the US unfortunately, though 'Lay It All On Me' with Ed Sheeran did peak at #48 on the Hot 100 last year.
- Both of their studio albums, 'Home' & 'We The Generation', have reached #1 in the UK.
- They've had 9 Top 40 singles in the UK, including 2 #1s called 'Feel The Love' & 'Waiting All Night'. They came close to the top again as 'Bloodstream' with Ed Sheeran peaked at #2 last year.
I'll talk about the Kaiser Chiefs in my next post. :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh wow!! also, i see an alexander armstrong and paul weller. never heard of either of them and watch them be real big in the uk :D also, looks like older artists do really good over there compared to over here.

avatar

Piran

1

Haha sorry about the wait! I've just posted throwbacks about Florence & The Machine, also some stats about Rudimental. Finally, here is the UK chart performance for the Kaiser Chiefs:
- They had 9 UK Top 40s, 5 Top 10s & a #1. Their only #1 was called 'Ruby', which was released back in 2007. 'Ruby' stayed in the Top 10 for 10 weeks & Top 40 for 22, which isn't easy for a British indie-rock band to do.
- All 6 of their studio albums reached the Top 10 in my country. The 2 #1s they had were 'Yours Truly, Angry Mob' & 'Education, Education, Education & War'. Even though their debut album called 'Employment' only reached #2, it sold over 2 million copies In the UK, which gave it a 6x platinum certification from the BPI.
- I can't really find anything big for them on the Hot 100 or BB200 unfortunately, but if you're a fan of: indie, rock or alternative groups, then I would definitely recommend their music.

avatar

Piran

1

It's interesting that you mention Alexander Armstrong, as he not only a singer, but a comedian, TV presenter & actor as well. Yeah older artists definitely perform better on the albums chart over here than they would on the BB200.
Something I've not seen happen for a few weeks is a British act having a really high charting album in the US, but hopefully Little Mix will keep their sales momentum for long enough to finish in the Top 10 next Sunday. :)
Have you heard any other tracks from 'Glory Days' yet, or have you just listened to 'Shout Out To My Ex'?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah, believe me if i've never heard of that artist, they didn't make a big splash over here. oh, take a look @ who the top 2 commenters are on the uk site? ;) and who are giggs?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I just saw that I'm at #1 & you're at #2, which is awesome news! Also congratulations to you on nearly reaching 15k Disqus comments. I'm staying as the top commenter on Official Charts though... ;) LOL
Giggs is a rapper from London who has only had minor hits on the UK Singles Chart, but has done very well on the UK Indie Charts though. I'm not really a huge fan of his genre of rap, so I barely know any songs of his if I'm honest.
Do you think our Billboard friends will be fine chatting with us on here again next Friday then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, the last uk act to debut high over here on the 200 chart would be adele and then of course zayn. and on the hot 100 of course zayn and adele. who's jorja smith? loyle carner? i'm on the 'new releases' section right now...lots of names i've never heard of :)

so, lm is guaranteed to debut in the top 10? and yeah, i've only listened to the shout song...zayn has had no comment on it yet? oh i'm checking out the spice girls' uk feats and they have 9 #1's over there?? over here, the supremes have 12, the all time record for a female group.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, i got all those republican righties to thank :D but seriously, i support lauren's right to free speech and she shouldn't have hateful people jump down her throat for just stating her opinions. just like what happened to the dixie chicks. but in fifth harmony's case, i can't see this as hurting them, since most of the haters are older people who support trump. most youth over here support hillary. and i just came back from lauren's twitter and it looks like she's getting lots of fans' support :)

well, i don't mind being 2nd on the uk charts ;). and i really don't know if our bb friends will keep coming back...i sure will, so it might just be you, me and jstar from the bb crowd. oh speaking of uk charts...i was just checking garth brooks uk feats, and he has only 2 top 10 albums, no #1 albums. and only 3 wks in the top 10!! no wks @ #1 on the albums' chart! all thruout the 90s, i used to see him constantly @ #1 and in the top 10 on the 200 charts *that's when he was getting those big selling albums...not just the 6 diamond ones from the 90s, also a handful of multi-plat. sellers*.

avatar

Piran

1

If I remember correctly, The 1975 got a BB200 #1 album with their 2nd studio album in 2016. David Bowie also did with 'Blackstar' after he died. Regarding Adele's '25' & Zayn's 'Mind Of Mine', did you buy either of those albums? I got the former & I was really impressed with it, but it's even better news that 'Water Under The Bridge' is the next single from it, as that's my favourite track from the album. :)
Yeah the Spice Girls had their first 6 singles reach #1, then had a hit peak at #2, then get 3 further #1s in the UK. In fact, I think their 11th & final song was the only one not to appear in the Top 2 for them. They've definitely got many records for girl groups across the world, but especially in the UK! :D
Well Sunshine Gal, I have to go back to University early tomorrow, so I'm going to sign off for now. It was great chatting to you tonight as always & I will be on again after 10am tomorrow your time.
I look forward to seeing you on the BB200 article. Enjoy the rest of your night! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

the 1975...? don't think i've heard of them. and no i never got zayn's album yet :D. i did get adele's album, but i prefer the 21 album moreso. and the spice girls had their first 6 singles go to #1??!! wow! they'd top mariah and j5 over here...ok mate, i'm gonna have dinner soon, talk to you 2mor ;). good night!

Hey Sunshine Gal! I hope you're having an awesome day. :)
Oh for the BB200's Top 10 later, A Tribe Called Quest should debut at #1, with Garth Brooks' 'Ultimate Collection' & Sting's '57th & 9th' getting entries in the Top 10. After Leonard Cohen's death, 'You Want It Darker' could also return to this region.
So have any other Billboard commenters been on here earlier today then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

mate!!! :)))! well, also been on the moby article...i just can't get over how many racist, sexist, homophobic people we really do have in the u.s. :/

and no, i haven't been on the uk article all morning...you'll never guess where i was? :D but i did hop over to lauren's twitter and it looks like she's getting tons of support! but mate, sorry to cut our convo short, i'm gonna grab a quick bite and brb. oh in the meantime, check out trump's tweets about snl (saturday night live)...he didn't like being a punchline on that show...but they poke fun @ everyone and anything. brb...

avatar

Piran

1

To be honest, you get some: homophobic, sexist & racist people all across the world unfortunately. :/
I'll try to take a look as those tweets soon, but at least Fifth Harmony are getting more fans because of this. I'll chat to you shortly though, as I got back to the University & have some unpacking to do.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate, i'm back :). oh good news, i can't believe i forgot to tell you!, the petition is now over 4.5mill! they're aiming for 5mill. but sorry, my dad is on his way over...gotta go, i'll be back later...oh did you already finish your trip to see your family? sorry mate, i'll catch ya in a lil' bit ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I'll probably talk you over on the BB200 article later then & yeah I was just seeing my family only for the weekend. Chat to you soon! :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate, is the article up yet? sorry, when i was writing my dad had just texted me :D. lots of things to do, it's gonna rain big time 2mor so i'll arrange for the salvation army to come by on weds to take the couch. and still packing away and getting rid of stuff.

oh and some good news about the petition ;). not 100% positive, but you know how i told you my dad is a republican? *and voted for hillary ;)* anyway, he was telling me that even the repubs over here are requesting that the electoral colleges rescind their votes for trump :))))!!! and that some of these institutions are considering it ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine! :)
No, the BB200 article still hasn't posted yet, but I'm going to be on here for about another 4 hours, so I don't mind waiting for a bit. Also I think the reason it's posting a bit late is because the AMAs are going to be on tonight. So if Arizona cancel their votes for Trump, will have that any significant effect on who is president in January then?
So it looks like it'll be between Bruno Mars & Metallica for next week's BB200 #1! Who do you think it will be & who do you want it to be?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok, today i won't let you be the 1st comment ;) oh i'm on the new article where musicians are commenting about how trump is demanding an apology from the hamilton theatre cast. that's crazy, cuz when obama first ran for president, trump went on and on about how obama could be a muslim terrorist :D and demanded to see obama's birth certificate. *obama was born in hawaii*

and from what i know yes...not too sure, but if the electorals rescind their votes, i believe hillary would win by default. right now i'm on a few articles: there's one on our 1D mates 1st album, the musicians reacting to trump *axl rose from guns n roses also gave his comments* and trump complaining about snl using him for a punchline.

well, it doesn't matter to me who's #1 on the album charts...will lm be on this week or next week's 200 chart?

avatar

Piran

1

I'll have to check that article out later, but which musicians commented on this then? I take it most or all of them are aren't supporting Trump, right? :) LOL
Well my internet is actually quite slow today, so you might be the 1st comment, but I'm still going to try to get there before you! I don't expect the comments threads to be very busy tonight if I'm honest.
Yeah I'm fine with either Metallica or Bruno Mars getting the BB200 #1 next week, but I prefer the latter act. Little Mix will debut on next week's chart, but they are falling down iTunes quite quickly, so I'm not too sure that they can reach the Top 10 in the US now. They should still be #1 over here though!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

bryan-michael *r & b singer*, richard marx *80s singer*, k.d. lang *she had a big hit called 'constant craving' in the early 90s*, and axl rose from guns n roses are some of them commenting. but it's just so hilarious that trump complains about everything being said about him and pence :/ i mean..he had no problem being critical of obama these last 8 yrs.

and alec baldwin tweeted back to trump *you can click my name, i just got back from there*. i mean, trump can't take a joke!! ;D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

and with take that...same thing as westlife, take that has 1 major u.s. hit, but was able to make the hot 100's top 10 for 11/11/95 *21 yrs ago this time!* here's the top 10 when 'back for good' reached it's final peak @ #7. i was tracking the hot 100 during this time, not too familiar with the group, but also remember their song!

1. mariah/fantasy *2nd song to debut @ #1*
2. coolio/gansta's paradise *will become #1 song of the year*
3. janet jackson/runaway
4. seal/kiss from a rose
5. groove theory/tell me
6. sophie b. hawkins/as i lay down
7. take that/back for good
8. hootie and the blowfish/only wanna be with you
9. xscape/who can i run to?
10. goo goo dolls/ name

so, 'back for good' enters on 8/12/1995 @ #63-56-45-37-30-24-23-21-19-16-12-9-9-7. so, keep in mind no internet during this time, a somewhat slow climb into the top 40. the 1st 5 wks on the chart, lots of history-making chart feats were happening on the hot 100: mj's 'you are not alone' would be the 1st song to debut @ #1, take that would be in the top 10 with him. mariah's fantasy would be the 2nd song to follow mj, her song was a huge radio hit!

so, once we enter the top 40 @ #37, the song is moving up @ a faster rate and being some real good competition to the u.s. artists as well as the big top 10 hits. the song keeps climbing up and stays in the top 10 for about 6 wks. whitney houston's 'exhale shoop shoop' will also enter @ #1 during this time *3rd song to do so*.

so all in all, u.s. radio finds 'back for good' a very favorable song and keeps playing it enough as much as big radio artists like mj, mariah, whitney houston, janet jackson, hootie and the blowfish. to go from outside the top 40 and to climb up into the top 10 and remain there for a good 6 wks shows that once u.s. radio stations were adding the song to their playlists, they didn't delete it or decrease the # of spins...so they liked it :). overall, good try for take that, and esp. to be in the top 10 with artists like mj and whitney houston.

interesting the UK charts aren't as motionless as the Hot 100. i think the UK charts had more activity a few years ago but the streaming factor is stagnating it a bit. however the Hot 100 is still more stagnant.

Sunshine Gal

1

hey friend!! how's it going! :)

avatar

Westeria Bade

1

doing well thanks :) how are you? autumn break ended some time ago and school has begun for awhile now but i'm already itching to get out. listened to some new albums from metallica, bruno mars and little mix and am happy with the new music.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh cool! you like metallica?? :) i was never into them, but remember them all during the 80s and 90s. are you able to buy music in russia from u.s. artists?

avatar

Westeria Bade

0

i'm not a huge fan of metallica but i always try to listen to new music if i can. yes, we have itunes and apple music and i think most music from the US is here. We Don't Talk Anymore and Heathens were kind of popular here. And My Way, from UK. but usually what's most popular here are local or other european artists.

Wow - one new entry in the top 40. LOL Not what I'd call a vibrant chart. Not that anyone will change the format so kind of wasting time even mentioning it. Sigh. Each week about 10 - 15 new songs are released. Not sure what's the point if they never chart. Please don't reply to this cos I can't be bothered to reply. Just stating my opinion. The format is not changing so don't reply. Thanks! And by the way, I think Drake's One Dance is on course to become the longest running top 40 song of all time. 33 weeks so far and still in the top 40.

I Am A Stegosaurus

Numerous songs entered the top 40 for the first time this week actually

Also, I'm sorry that I'm replying again, but I don't think One Dance will log more top 40 weeks than Thinking Out Loud, which lasted over a year

And what has happened to all of those great artists of old - they just don't get a look-in on these week-after-week tabulations of largely disco-orientated, mechanised fodder. Even Robbie Williams can only muster up a pathetic number 33 with his latest offering, following the total bombing of the first single from his 12th number one album. It must be so soul-destroying for those artists with real talent not getting their work recognised anymore - Pink Floyd, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, The Eagles, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Status Quo, Iron Maiden, Queen, Madonna, etc - all release singles and they fail to chart whatsoever yet Drake can spend 33 weeks on the chart. Perhaps there is just a minority of people buying music now and the chart reflects that market

so with westlife, they've only had 1 major u.s. hit 'swear it again' *it's always harder for non-u.s. acts to make it big over here*. i know a lot of you might be very surprised about that, considering how big westlife is in europe. here's a look @ their hot 100 chart feat and what was going on in the top 10 when 'swear it again' hit it's final peak.

on the hot 100 dated 4/1/2000 *april fool's day! :D* 'swear it again' enters @ #96-82-66-55-55-46-44-44-37-35-32-25-21-20 *final peak*. here was the top 10 when 'swear it again' hit it's final peak:

7/1/2000:
1. enrique iglesias/be with you *3 wk run @ #1*
2. aaliyah/try again *debuted @ #1 2 wks prior*
3. christina auguilera/i turn to you
4. joe/i wanna know
5. eminem/the real slim shady
6. vertical horizon/everything you want
7. nsync/it's gonna be me *will go to #1*
8. faith hill/breathe *will be #1 song of the year*
9. marc anthony/you say to me
10. pink/there you go

so, westlife enters @ the bottom of the chart, has a good steady climb to #55. so this means that more u.s. radio stations are adding the song to their playlists and increasing the # of 'spins' *amt. of times the song is being played on the air*. it takes about 3 more wks to crack the top 40 *airplay is increasing and more stations are adding it to their playlists*. have a good run within the #37-32 range *a good sign of this is it's not moving down on the chart, showing the increase in radio airplay each week*. and then another 3 weeks to peak @ #20.

the week westlife is @ #20, of course the top 10 is jam-packed with the u.s. artists who have bigger hits. christina aguilera would've already had about 2-3 previous top 10's/#1's. this was nothing but bad timing on the part of westlife's label...nsync would've already reached 7x plat. in july and eminem's momentum was just getting underway. but still...a good run for westlife! too bad i didn't know who they were during this time, but i certainly remember their song on the radio! :)

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! I'm back again. :)
Well with a Top 10 like that, it's a bit easier to understand why Westlife could only enter the Top 20. What is your favourite song from the chart that you posted in this throwback then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate!! sorry, my dad stopped by and now i'm back :)))! well, not just that top 10...you and i both saw how their album peaked @ #129. but see...their label and management CLEARLY weren't following the bb charts and the u.s. music scene. i'm pretty sure @ a later time, westlife could've done much better.

well, from that week's top 10, i def. liked eminem, christina, faith hill & aaliyah. but see how different the top 10 would be from westlife's single? what i would've suggested to simon, bring westlife over to vh1 ;). shania twain, celine dion and mariah's vids did really well on vh1. i don't even remember westlife on trl back then :(. ok, mate i'm gonna work on my take that throwback...should i also do one for bbmak?

avatar

Piran

1

Don't worry, that's fine. I'm probably only going to be on here for about another 30 minutes tonight anyway, but I'll also try my best to be on here tomorrow as well. It's nice to see that some of the frequent Billboard commenters have joined us tonight though! :)
Regarding your throwbacks, definitely do both of them please, So were Take That & BBMAK ever on TRL then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate!!! i got the take that throwback up :))))! tell me what you think of my commentary ;). well, trl didn't come on until late 1998, so take that would've already had their u.s. run and no i never saw them on there. i can't recall if westlife or bbmak were...if they were, artists like eminem and nsync were too popular in 2000, always @ #1 each day. remember nsync sold the 2.4 mill. in the 1st week? they reached 6-7x plat. in just 3 mos. and then 10x plat. in about 6 mos. goes to show that bbmak and westlife just got buried underneath all those momentums going on @ once.

avatar

Piran

1

I just saw the Take That throwback & if I'm honest, other than 'Back For Good' I only really know the Top 5 songs from the Hot 100 that week. Great commentary though & thanks as always for posting these throwbacks. :)
Oh is it alright if I make a request? What did the BB200's Top 10 look like at this time as well?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

sure i'll do 200 chart throwbacks for all of them :). and mate, i'm doing the bbmak throwback and guess what song i'm seeing in the top 10? thong song!!?? lskfldf;l;ihi!!! :D i'll have bbmak's hot 100 throwback up in a sec and then i'll do 200 chart throwbacks for all 3, good idea!

avatar

Piran

1

Awesome! I can't wait to see them. :)
Speaking of 'Thong Song' (peaked at #3 over here as well), do you hate it more than 'Juju' & 'Broccoli' then? To be honest, I still can't believe how any of these managed to reach the Hot 100's Top 10. -_-
Also, did you get a chance to hear 'Rockabye' & 'Black Beatles' yet? ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hahah!! no way! it made the 3 in the uk too!!?? and that piece of *blank* was in the top 10 a good 5-6 wks!! & our bbmak and westlife mates would be stuck outside the top 15! alright, i have the bbmak throwback ready and will have it up in a sec...and no i haven't heard those 2 songs yet...but i will check them out later :P

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah it's crazy to think that 'Thong Song' was also a hit over here & it even made the Top 20 in 13 countries! Oh I thought BBMAK did reach the Top 15 with 'Back Here' & it reached #13 if I remember correctly. :)
Do you know where 'Thong Song' debuted on the Hot 100 then?

I've made it here, I spent an hour looking for this chat... I didn't realize it would be directly under the chart lol :D

Hey Chasexox! I hope you're having a good day buddy. :)
Yeah I think that confused some of the Billboard commenters, but you can always search on my Disqus profile if ever you can't find this chat. Great to see that you're here now though! :D
I have posted a review somewhere on this thread if you haven't seen it already. What do you think of the UK charts this week then? ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey, next time click on my name or piran's name to find it :P.

avatar

Chasexox

1

I kind of love them! I like seeing how much movement there is, other than seeing Side to Side has lost a lot of popularity. Shout Out To My Ex being a big hit doesn't hurt either. Speaking of which, what do you think of Little Mix's album if you've heard it?

avatar

Piran

1

I think 'Side To Side' peaked at #4 over here, so that's also definitely a positive, even though I wanted it to last in the Top 10 a little bit longer than it did.
SOTME is already one of my favourite songs of 2016, so I was very happy when that got 3 weeks at #1 on the UK charts. I've not got Little Mix's new album yet, but I plan on buying it later in the week. I heard some of the tracks from it individually though & one that I love is 'Nothing Else Matters', which I really hope they choose as the 2nd single. :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

what...??!! 13 countries!! are you *bleep* kidding me? ;D! that is just a ridiculous insult!! and i had to put up with that crappy *bleep* on the radio all that time!!?? all i can say is bill werde *editor in chief back then* is so lucky i didn't know who westlife and bbmak were. i would've flooded his email with tons of heated complaints!! :D

'thong song' debuts on 1/29/2000 @ #76 and will jump to #35 in 2 wks. no doubt, getting tons of airplay from r & b and hip/hop stations.

avatar

Chasexox

1

SOTME is one of my favorites for the year as well! I really enjoy every song, but 'Touch' might be my favorite as of right now. It would make sense as the lead US single if the label doesn't get around to pushing SOTME to US radio. I heard rumors that 'Touch' was an Ariana Grande collaboration, I wonder what that was all about because it definitely isn't.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

and yes, i hate thong song the worst :D cuz 2 groups of good looking uk men that i never knew about didn't get a chance to crack the top 10 and that *oops!* of *bleep* :D kept zooming up the chart and remaining in the top 10 for a good amt. of time. talk about, 'what the *bleep* is bb thinking!!?? :DDDD!

avatar

Piran

1

I know, it's absolutely crazy! -_-
Oh are there any other British artists in the Top 100 that you want to ask me about? :)
Also, I'm chatting to Chasexox right now & we're saying that it's great that 'That's My Girl' is performing quite well inside the Top 40. Do you have Fifth Harmony's latest album then? ;)

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah I'm hoping that SOTME can re-enter the Hot 100 next week now that 'Glory Days' has finally been released. In the UK albums chart next week, it will be close between Bruno Mars & Little Mix for #1; I like both, but I'm supporting the latter act more because they've never been atop the albums chart over here. As for the BB200, it'll be between Bruno Mars & Metallica for #1 next Sunday, with Little Mix possibility debuting in the lower Top 10.
Well I know Little Mix will be opening for Ariana Grande on her 'Dangerous Woman' tour next year, but they've definitely never collaborated on a song together (but I hope that happens). Speaking of Ariana Grande, have you heard her collaboration with Stevie Wonder called 'Faith'? I think it's pretty good! :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

that's crazy you asked me that question...who are youngstown? i see their album peaking @ #96 *i'm still doing the westlife album's chart run*. and i did see robbie williams @ #59 on the hot 100 with 'angels'. final peak..and guess which song zoomed past his? that's right...thong song!! ;lasdf;s;ehe;ohoe;hroih;!! :DDD! and no, i haven't been able to check out any new music recently, i don't have 5h's album yet.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

never mind, youngstown are from the u.s. but i never heard of them!

avatar

Piran

1

Oh I saw your other reply to me, but I've never heard of Youngstown either.
Interestingly many songs by American artists sometimes perform much better here than on the Hot 100, while: Mike Posner, Rachel Platten & Ariana Grande have reached the Top 10 in the US, they've all had a #1 as a lead artist in the UK. I'm also very happy to see Hailee Steinfeld's new song performing well over here ('Starving' peaked at #5). :)
Well now that you mentioned 'Angels', that's actually one of my favourite songs of all-time. I believe it peaked at #4 over here, but is still considered to be one of his most successful hits in my country. I was really happy to hear that 'Love My Life' reached the Top 40 today when I was listening to the radio earlier & Robbie's latest single is even getting success on the iTunes charts across Europe which is awesome! :D
I definitely recommend '7/27' though, because it's a big improvement to Fifth Harmony's 'Reflection' album. If you do get the album eventually, then check out 'Write On Me' because that is my favourite track from it. ;)

avatar

Techfan

2

Hey Piran! Sorry to track you down here and to be off topic, but I wanted to let you know that Little Mix's album Deluxe version is #7 while the normal on is #20 for iTunes in the US, which might be enough for it to have a chance to debut in the Top 10 of the BB 200. It appears to be #2 in the UK. For some reason, one of those NOW That's What I Call Music is #1 there.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i never even knew who robbie williams was LOL! but why didn't simon cowell have westlife go on tour with nsync or bsb!!?? nsync would've had their hugely successful stadium tour *that's right, stadiums!* over here and bsb would've been on tour *prob. finishing up when no strings attached was released*...that way i would've known who westlife was!! :D i am still sooo bummed out!! it's not fair LOL!

oh who are: A*teens; S club 7; 5ive, and plus one? dunno if they're all british, but i've never heard of any of them. and the all saints?

avatar

Piran

2

Hey Techfan! :)
Thanks for that update & I can't wait to tell Sunshine Gal the news, as both her & I really want 'Glory Days' to reach the Top 10 of the BB200. Regarding the UK iTunes chart, NOW 95! is a compilation album, so unlike the BB200, I don't think it will be eligible to chart on the mainstream albums chart in the UK. That hopefully gives Little Mix a much better chance of getting their first UK #1 album. :D
As for this week's UK charts, I see you're not a fan of 'Crank It [Woah]' at all... :P LOL

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

that's good!!! another top 10 debut, cuz their last album missed the top 10 from what i remember.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

hey mate, that's great for lm to debut *hopefully* in the top 10 over here...didn't 'salute' miss the top 10, like it entered @ #13 or something?

avatar

Techfan

1

Interesting rules they have for albums at the Official Charts. So are you a fan of Cra* It (Woah) ... ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I think Westlife had huge potential in the US, but the competition they had with other boybands at the time was huge. Oh I found out that Take That will be releasing their eighth studio album next year, as well as a fifth greatest hits collection to celebrate their 25th anniversary as a band. :)
I'm going to sign off in about 10-15 minutes, so I'll have to answer your questions about the other British groups for our chat tomorrow now. I can tell you a bit about S Club 7 though & I was a huge fan of theirs:
- All 11 of their singles reached the Top 5 over here & 4 of them hit #1. They also had 5 songs peak at #2, including (ironically) 'You're My Number One'. My favourites from them are 'Don't Stop Movin' & 'Reach'.
- They are pretty much one-hit wonders in the US, as 'Never Had A Dream Come True' was their only appearance on the Hot 100, peaking at #10 in 2000.
- As for their performance on the UK albums chart, all of their studio albums except their last reached the Top 3. I can't find any major appearances from them on the BB200 chart unfortunately.

avatar

Techfan

1

You mean Get Weird debuted at #13 last year. Salute debuted at #6 two years before that. Also, Shout Out to My Ex has re-entered the iTunes Top 100 Singles at #97, so it should help the album a little bit.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

also, who's blaque and kittie..? ;D are they both uk groups? in the lower part of the 200 chart, i'm seeing tons of artists i've never heard of! oh, did you see my one post where you're asking me which song i hated the worst, thong song, brocolli or juju? ;D i answered it ;). ok, i'm still looking thru bbmak's 200 chart run..i sure hope i'm not hurting anyone's feelings posting up their u.s. stats :( but still, they shouldn't feel too bad, the dixie chicks went 12x plat. with their 1st album and it took them a long time to reach the top 10.

in case i'm still working on the take that and bbmak throwbacks, have a good night! i'll post them up in a sec and you can get back to me when you're back on ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

oh yeah :D well, i'm a new mixer so i gotta used to all their albums and song titles. is 'shout' out of the hot 100 altogether? and will it re-enter anytime soon?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I'm very pleased that it might happen as well, but I'll wait until next Sunday before I begin celebrating! :) LOL
It was actually 'Get Weird' that missed the Top 10 & entered at #13, but their previous two albums, 'DNA' & 'Salute', peaked on the BB200 at #4 & #6 respectively. :D
Well I'm going to sign off for now, but I'll try my best to be on here tomorrow, although it won't be for very long unfortunately. If not, I'll see you on Sunday for the BB200 article.
Great chatting to you today & thanks for the throwbacks. Enjoy the rest of your night! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok mate, have a good night! oh blaque is an american female group and kittie is a canadian metal band LOL! i never heard of them! i'll catch ya later ;P

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I'm pretty sure that compilation albums have their own separate chart, as do soundtracks.
Haha well I have mixed thoughts about 'Crank It [Woah]'; it can get extremely annoying, but it's a good song to dance to in my opinion. :)
Well I'm signing off for tonight, but it was great to see you & the rest of the Billboard commenters over here on Official Charts today. Enjoy the rest of your night Techfan!

avatar

Piran

1

Oh sorry I didn't see your previous response to me, but now I understand another reason why you hate 'Thong Song' so much! For me, the worst of the three songs I mentioned is probably 'Broccoli' at the moment. :P LOL
Also, I'm sure everyone appreciates you posting your throwbacks. Even if not many people here are interested about them, you know I always love them. :)
This will definitely have to be my final post for tonight, but I look forward to our next chat! :D

avatar

Techfan

1

Good night! See you on Sunday on the BB 200 article. :)

hahaah!!! well, think about it...if tay-tay never made a big splash in the uk and a similar uk artist had a crappy song that was a huge smash and then you find out about tay-tay yrs later, wouldn't you feel cheated? ;D that's exactly how i feel right now! >-<

ok, mate still going thru bbmak's 200 chart run...2 bad they didn't go on tour with nsync or bsb back then. i'll post up the bbmak and take that throwbacks...i may even check out connor maynard's chart runs ;). go to sleep already! :D

Yeah I prefer 'Side To Side' as well to be honest. Do you think it can reach the Hot 100's Top 5 then? :)

avatar

Chasexox

1

Absolutely! I was on a forum (ATRL I thinK?) And I saw Simm leave predictions there, he predicts Side to Side to reach number 4 this week! I see a lot of people saying that it could peak at number 2, and number 1 if Black Beatles didn't exist.

avatar

Piran

0

That's awesome news! 'Side To Side' is one of my favourite tracks from Ariana Grande's 'Dangerous Woman' album, along with 'Into You' & 'Greedy'. :)
I wish Ariana Grande could get a Hot 100 #1, but I wouldn't mind seeing her reach #2 again at all. I know 'Side To Side' is doing consistently well across all metrics. :D
So what is your favourite of all Ariana songs then? ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey everyone! i'm sure a lot of you are big fans of take that and westlife, right? ;) well, i'll have some hot 100 throwbacks for both groups up in a sec ;)

avatar

Lombe

1

I expect "Party Monster" by The Weeknd to debut in the top 10 next week. The Weeknd has a huge fan base in the UK.

avatar

Lombe

1

I hope "Love On The Weekend" by John Mayer debuts on the chart next week. It's his first new song in three years.

avatar

Lombe

2

It's great to see "Rockabye" by Clean Bandit (feat Sean Paul & Anne-Marie) at number 1 for a second straight week. It's a song about the hardships of single mothers.
I'm also glad to see "Black Beatles" by Rae Sremmurd (feat Guwop) at number 4. It was produced by Mike Will Made It. It is both Rae Sremmurd and Guwop's first number one-single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and also marks their first top 5 appearance in the UK. Even though the #MannequinChallenge has significantly increased the song's popularity worldwide, it is important to note that the song had already entered the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart before the #MannequinChallenge
"I Would Like" by Zara Larsson has debuted at number 42 this week. I really like this song, and I expected it to debut much higher than number 42.
"One Day I'll Fly Away" by Vaults debuted at number 53. It was featured in the 2016 John Lewis Christmas advertisement. It was originally recorded by jazz singer Randy Crawford from her fourth studio album, "Now We May Begin" released in 1980. The song was written by Joe Sample and Will Jennings. The original version actually peaked at number 2 in the UK- it will be interesting to see if Vaults' version can surpass that and reach number 1.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey!! :) i listed the top 10 for the week clean bandit was #10 on the hot 100. remember when tay-tay and meghan were vying for the top 2 spots? and the female artists would lock the top 5 spots? during that time...but i gotta get going, i'll be back later today :}

I'm totally un-glad Crank It (Woah) fell

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

do you ever check out the bb charts?

avatar

hey mate, just in time :) i'm working on some westlife and take that throwbacks :)

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! :)
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing those throwbacks, but I'll be back on to discuss them with you in about 45 minutes from now. Chat to you then!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah i'm still working on them, see you in a few :P

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Yeah, and I'm pretty unimpressed with them.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

ok, just thought i'd ask ;)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

My House! Wow, I forgot about that one. Not very good for a Flo Rida song IMO though

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah he has done better, but I still really like it. What is your favourite Flo Rida song then? :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

OBVIOUSLY coz I'm a huge Olly Murs fan, I'm gonna have to say Troublemaker. Surprisingly though, if we're saying when he's the lead artist, I would pick I Don't Like It I Love It, though Good Feeling, Low and Whistle (even though I hate most songs about ) are jams too

avatar

ProPanda

1

1. Faded
2. Don't Let Me Down
3. Adventure Of A Lifetime
4. Ride
5. Roses

It's probably gonna change when I post my official list, but as of now

avatar

Piran

1

'Faded' & 'Don't Let Me Down' are great, 'Adventure Of A Lifetime' is good, 'Roses' is decent & 'Ride' is meh in my opinion. Overall, there's no song that I dislike here, so nice choices! :)

avatar

ProPanda

1

Noice. Aside from CSTF! I don't remember any I disliked from yours either

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks! I thought you didn't like 'Closer' anymore though... ;)

avatar

ProPanda

1

Oh yeah that. I try to forget it exists

avatar

Piran

0

Haha sorry I reminded you! ;) LOL
Speaking of The Chainsmokers, what do you think of 'Setting Fires' then?

avatar

ProPanda

0

Average vocals
Good lyrics
Awful production

Overall, meh

avatar

Piran

1

I would say: good lyrics, good vocals, meh production. I would give 'Setting Fires' a 7/10 overall, but it's so catchy! :)
Is 'New York City' still your favourite song by The Chainsmokers then?

avatar

ProPanda

0

Yeah. And based off the rate of quality they are going on, it will most likely stay that way

avatar

Dan Love

2

Awful vocals
Awful lyrics
Awful production

Overall, awful

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Thank god for Adventure of a Lifetime on there, no disrespect but that looks like the saving grace to me

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

No surprise then if Chainsmokers are what we're talking about.

Ups and Downs:

Ups:
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET IN THERE! MY BAE OLLY MURS IS GOD OF THE ALBUM CHARTS ONCE AGAIN!
Grow Up enters the top 40! Not a very good song but hooray!
The amount of new top 40 entries!
Find Me in the top 40, not a fan of the song but I thought the Sun would become a red giant by the time Sigma have another top 40 hit so it's an up. Same for Famous by Sykes.
Mr Brightside in the top 100 still. Get used to seeing this as an up as it may just be the best song in the whole 100 right now.

Downs:
Clean Bandit's Rockabye still number 1.
LACK OF MOVEMENT IN TOP 20.
Sucker For Pain & This Is What You Came for drop out the 40.
Just... the overall quality of the Top 40 songs at the moment. In fact, the only six songs I like in the top 40 are Let Me Love You, Closer, Can't Stop The Feeling, Mercy, Treat You Better and Cold Water. I'm not saying the rest are TERRIBLE, but no others are good

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

hahaha!! i take it, we're happy with the #1 song of the week? ;)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Rockabye? Not really

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

oh i thought you liked it :D

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Well I liked Clean Bandit until that song came out

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

oh ok...do you like westlife, take that or bbmak? i'm gonna post up their hot 100 feats over here. each group had 1 big hit in the u.s., a big change compared to their uk feats, but still each group had good runs.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

I've never heard of BBMAK, never really cared about Westlife and think Take That are bland and overrated

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

really? they're all pretty good! piran and i chat about them all the time.

avatar

Jakob Hudson

66

No offence but you have a rather stale taste in music...

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

You jumped to that conclusion rather quickly

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Oh ignore my previous statement, I thought all I said in this comment for a minute was Olly hitting number 1 but there was more.

avatar

Ricci Tambor

1

Hi! I've heard of bbmak, they were never a hit over here but I know they were quite big in the US, although I don't know any of their songs tbh. I didn't realise take that and Westlife had any US chart success though - what songs were their big hits in the states then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

are you in the uk mate? well, bbmak's debut single reached the top 15 on the bb hot 100 chart...but were unable to repeat anymore success. i actually didn't know who they were @ the time, the current crop of u.s. artists and other mainstream artists were too big *nsync, britney, eminem, shania twain*. my opinion it was bad timing for both bbmak and westlife *both uk groups came to the u.s. around the same time*.

well, westlife has 1 top 20 hit 'swear it again' and take that has 1 top 10 hit 'back for good'. other than that, it was too hard, esp. for westlife, to compete with the current u.s. pop scene. i didn't know who westlife was, but i do remember their song on the radio, same for take that.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

also mate, try skimming thru the 'oldest' comments, i posted u.s. throwbacks to bbmak, westlife and take that. they should still be up and tell me what you think ;).

avatar

Ricci Tambor

1

Hi, Yeh I am in the UK 🙌 I will check your old posts out in a lil while, so are bbmak actually from the UK? I thought they were from the states, idk why.... I guessed take That's only hit stateside would be back for good, that is a great song - Gary Barlow (the lead singer) won an ivor novello (idk if I spelt that right lol) award for best song writing for that song.westlife were absolutely massive here, I never under stood why tbh, I remember they stopped Spice Girls from getting a third consecutive new entry at number one in the album charts which really annoyed me at the time lol I'll have a look at ur old posts 4 sure. Take care!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

sorry mate, bbmak are from liverpool :D but not to sound negative, i can't say they were big over here. both bbmak and westlife came to the u.s. around may of 2000...BIG mistake! over here & esp. @ that time, nsync was crazy hot! also, eminem, britney and other acts were just selling millions of albums left and right that in my honest opinion, both westlife and bbmak just got buried under all those avelanches.

my mate piran was telling me how big westlife really are in the uk and a huge contrast to over here. ok mate, i have the u.s chart runs for all 3 uk groups for the bb hot 100 singles chart and the 200 albums chart. and i'll be doing more throwbacks to another uk act on friday's updated article...see you then ;)

Congratulations to Clean Bandit as 'Rockabye' earns a 2nd week at #1. It might not be my favourite song from the band, but it's certainly a great dance song & after listening to the lyrics to the song in more detail, I realised that there is a heartfelt message behind the song which is nice. Anne-Marie's vocals here are much better than in her own music, but although I like Sean Paul in general, I can't say I'm a fan of his rap part.
I think Clean Bandit will get next week at #1 due to the big lead 'Rockabye' has on iTunes, but I think 'Black Beatles' by Rae Sremmurd & Gucci Mane is a strong contender to be the next #1 hit. Since the Mannequin Challenge went viral, the song has surged in sales & streaming, but I actually wouldn't mind 'Black Beatles' reaching #1 in the UK. It's easily Rae Sremmurd's best song in my opinion; it's got a good beat & the hook is incredibly catchy.
I really liked seeing quite a few songs enter the Top 40, with my favourite being 'Love My Life' for being such a positive song & me being a fan of Robbie's for many years, but I also love 'Famous' & 'Grow Up'. Also I'm very happy to see Olly Murs get his 4th #1 album today.
It's also awesome that 'Hurts' is back in the Top 40 again & that 'Find Me' could also climb to enter this region. I've not heard 'On Hold' yet, but I prefer the original 'Return Of The Mack' much more than the remix, though the remix my Nevada & Fetty Wap may grow on me with a few listens.
It was a surprise to see The Vamps fall out of the Top 40 after just one week & really thought 'I Would Like' could debut in the Top 40 next week (but I can definitely the latter entering soon).
I was hoping for 'Hallelujah' to re-enter much higher than it did & I also wasn't expecting 'One Day I'll Fly Away' to debut so low. That's a bit of a shame because I enjoy both songs.
A pretty good week overall! Next week, it'll be Rae Sremmurd vs Clean Bandit on the singles chart & probably Bruno vs Little Mix on the albums chart.
Thanks for reading this everyone & I hope you all have a great weekend. :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey what's up mate!!! party time! :D oh i found out something interesting about olly murs...his bday is 1 day after mine :D. but i only see he had 2 hot 100 hits 'heart skips a beat' @ #96 & 'troublemaker' @ #25. i know the latter one, but i had no idea it was him!

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! I didn't actually that your birthday is the day before Olly's, but that's awesome! :)
I've really liked all of his music, so it was great to hear that he got his 4th consecutive #1 album today. Do you think Little Mix can go atop the albums chart next week then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yeah may 13th, stevie wonder and i have the same bday. i have the official singles chart open in another page...who the heck :D is ?? also, looks like nathan sykes is in this week's top 30 @ #28...he never cracked the hot 100 chart right? but the bubbling under one?

well, what factors go in the for the uk charts? if lm has a high first weeks sales tally, then i think they can debut @ #1. but i don't know who the rest of their competition would be.

avatar

Piran

1

Oh also regarding your post about Olly Murs, both 'Heart Skips A Beat' & 'Troublemaker' were also UK #1 hits for him, but he also went atop the singles chart in my country with 'Please Don't Let Me Go' & 'Dance With Me Tonight'. Considering you heard 'Troublemaker', what did you think of it? :)
I actually don't know too much about The as 'On Hold' is only their 2nd Top 40, but I do that there are a British indie band.
Regarding Nathan Sykes, he's never been in the Hot 100 as a lead artist, but did chart at #82 as a featured artist on 'Almost Is Never Enough'. It looks like he had 2 '1s on Hot Dance Club Songs with 'Kiss Me Quick' & 'Over & Over Again' though (the latter went Top 10 on the UK charts).
Sales & streaming are the only factors that affect the albums chart & it looks like it'll be close between Bruno Mars & Little Mix next week. The former act has had his first two studio albums go to #1 though, but 'Glory Days' is currently selling better. NOW 95! has even better sales right now, but complication albums have their own chart over here & hence are ineligible to chart on the official albums chart.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

what!!?? compilation albums can't chart on the mainstream chart? well, believe it or not, i recall the 200 chart had similar exclusions back in the 90s...same goes for the hot 100 chart.

oh i have westlife's and take that's uk chart feats open in other tabs...if they'd achieve similar feats over here, they'd be leagues over bsb and nsync :). i wonder which take that guy i chatted with before? ;) if only westlife's label had held off on bringing them to the u.s. until after nsync's momentum had cooled off a little. but anyway, those are some impressive #'s for both groups.

for example, i see that westlife's 1st 7 uk singles went to #1. over here, j5 are still the 1st and only group to have their 1st 4 singles to go to #1. and mariah had her 1st 5 singles go to #1...i haven't seen anyone come close to that that i can recall offhand. and with j5, this would've happened in 1970 and mariah would be 1990 *20 yr difference!* since then, nobody's had a consecutive #1 start since.

avatar

Piran

1

I don't think they can & I'm not even sure if soundtracks are eligible to enter the mainstream albums chart either.
Yeah it's incredible that Take That & Westlife had a combined 26 UK #1 singles between them. Also Westlife's first 22 singles entered the Top 5! I don't think anyone has made this achievement on the Hot 100 before, tight? :)
Also, you know how you were saying that Westlife's first 7 singles were #1? Well, all 7 of those even debuted at #1!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

sorry mate, i can't find the week clean bandit was in the top 10 on the hot 100...was this during pharrell's 10 wk run with 'happy'? if you can find the week, pls. let me know :). i'm pretty sure i saw the top 10 for that week, and 'rather be' rings a bell, but can't recall them @ the moment.

well, i was checking out all of westlife's singles on wiki and i gotta say, they sure look good to me ;). well, that's amazing about 22 straight top 5 hits, bb would've gone crazy over stats like that. very interesting how different the uk and u.s. music charts are.

and soundtracks can't chart on the mainstream uk albums' chart??!! over on the 200 chart, that's been going on since the days of elvis and the beatles, the chart would've had 150 entries, possibly less when elvis was first on the chart.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Hopefully Bruno nails it next week out of those two, I'm not a fan of his new stuff like 24K Magic but I don't want to see Little Mix straight up bury OIly Murs, I wouldn't mind seeing Bruno topple Olly as I actually like Bruno Mars.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

IMO Sean is like the saving grace in Rockabye, and even then, doesnt't make the song good

avatar

Piran

1

It's the Hot 100 dated for 11/10/2014. so when Meghan Trainor's 'All About That Bass' was at #1 & Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' was always just behind it at #2. Sam Smith & Jessie J were the other Brits to appear in the Hot 100's Top 10 that week, meanwhile Ariana Grande had three songs in the Top 10 that week. :)
Yeah I really can't believe that Take That & Westlife weren't more popular in the US, but like you said, it was just unfortunate timing that they were trying to become big in the Billboard charts when NYSNC & BSB were at that time. :/
I'm quite sure that soundtracks can't enter the mainstream albums chart in the UK, but I don't know if it's always been this way. Oh I was telling Jstar this & I thought I should tell you as well; I've got three assignments being given to me next week & there's one other that I'm currently working on, so I'll be on for the Hot 100 & BB200 articles as usual, but don't expect me to be on for many chats next week unfortunately, though I'll try my best for you to be on here! ;)

avatar

Piran

Hey Synthesiza! :)
Well I know you like Olly Murs a lot & that you're very happy about his new album entering at #1. I'm very pleased the albums chart this week as well. :D
Oh I was scrolling through the comments in that article & I'm so sorry to hear the news about your granddad. :(

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh ok..the end of 2014...here's the top 10 for 10/11/2014

1. meghan/all about the bass
2. tay-tay/shake it off
3. nicki minaj/anaconda
4. iggy azalea/black widow
5. jessie j/bang bang
6. sam smith/stay with me
7. tove lo/habits
8. ariana grande/break free
9. jeremih/don't tell 'em
10. clean bandit/rather be

i gotta remember you guys write your dates different than us ;D well, i def. was tracking this week's top 10...i also remember bb noting how female artists would've locked the top 5 for a number of wks. but it looks like clean bandit made only 1 wk in the top 10...no wonder i can't recall them too much!

well, by the time westlife came to the u.s., bsb would've had their momentum cool down with the milennium album and not only did nsync storm with sales, so did eminem, britney, limp bizkit...too many acts doing great all @ once.

ok mate, just get back to me when you can...speaking of which, i gotta get going. i should be back later on here today or over the weekend :P

Yeah when 'Blank Space' got it's 7th & final week at #1 on the Hot 100 for Taylor Swift, I think that tied the record for the longest consecutive time that women were atop the Hot 100 as lead artists.
Chat to you Sunshine Gal! It was great to see you on here today & I'll talk to you later or tomorrow. :)
