PAINT THE TOWN RED
by DOJA CAT
Paint The Town Red, the lead single from Doja Cat's fourth album Scarlet, became her first ever Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart. Featuring an instantly recognisable sample from Dionne Warwick's 1964 classic Walk on By, which was written by legendary songwriting duo Burt Bacharach and Hal David, it's a catchy pop-rap banger driven by Doja's unique brand of swagger. "Said I got drive, I don't need a car," she raps on the second verse. "I'm doin' things they ain't seen before." She makes good on this promise in the music video, which shows her fraternising with the devil and a personification of death. The overall message is clear: don't mess with Doja.
