Katy Perry and Alesso have dropped the official music video for their new track, When I'm Gone.
Katy's first release since her 2020 album Smile, When I'm Gone dropped right at the tail-end of last year to coincide with the launch of her first-ever Las Vegas residency, Play.
Now, today (January 11) the high-energy clip promoting the track sees a newly raven-haired Katy join Alesso for some fun, sci-fi hijinks in what looks to be some kind of power plant. As the kids say, we believe she is serving looks and choreography, in a refreshing return to the pop star stadium for one of the last decade's most reliable and successful hitmakers.
Watch the new visual directed by Hannah Lux Davis (Ariana Grande, Halsey) below.
And with Katy's very serious promise that "it's time to give them everything that they want..." could 2022 be the year that the pop maximalism Katy practicsed so well on records like Teenage Dream and Prism makes a return? If the frantic production of When I'm Gone - helmed by Alesso and Rami, a close worker to Katy's frequent collaborator Max Martin - is any indication, we'd say it's definitely a possibility.
In total in the UK, Katy has scored 5 UK Number 1 singles (I Kissed A Girl, California Gurls, Part of Me, Roar and Feels with Calvin Harris and Pharrell) and 2 Number 1 albums with Teenage Dream and Prism. Find out 20 incredible chart facts about Katy here.
Katy's last album Smile - which featured singles such as Never Really Over and the perky title track - debuted at peaked at Number 5 on the Official Albums Chart, becoming Katy's fourth UK Top 10 album.
2021 also saw a fan favourite track from Smile reach viral fame. Harley's In Hawaii, which didn't crack the top 40 upon initial release in 2019, recieved an uplift of 426% after the song's hypnotic chorus became massively popular on TikTok.
