We're less than 3 weeks into the New Year - where have all the Christmas songs disappeared to? Surely they didn't all plummet passed the 100th position already???

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I'm glad they've gone! give some new songs a chance!

irish and us charts are the same as uk ????

Well done to Ed for debuting at 1 and 2. I think that COTH will fall in the next few weeks but Shape Of You might hang around at the top for quite some time.

3 songs are hitting the top 10 for the first time. September Song is OK, Call On Me is generic and terrible and out of the three, YDKM is probably the best imo.

It's cool that You Want Me is reaching a new peak.

Bad Things will probably fly up the charts in the next few weeks.

Sheeran is re-entering left right and centre.

I pray that Bad And Boujee doesn't get to number 1.

Redbone has got to 65! :)

On Hold is re-entering. It's an epic song.

Million Reasons is at 76. It's a terrible song.

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

sure hope bad things flies up the charts!

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

call on me's not terrible- far from it. all of those songs reaching the top 10 are great. I'm so proud of myself- 2 weeks ago I predicted large climbs for those 3 and bad things- and all had large climbs this week! ;)

UPS:
Rockabye is finally off number 1!
ED SHEERAN! So glad Castle on The Hill hit 2, would have been better if it hit #1
The only song in the top 40 to have not moved is The Greatest.
Shed A Light charted in the top 40. I've been starved of a good DG song for so long.
The Ed Sheeran re-entries. Nice.
Years & Years by Olly Murs enters the top 100, yes! I'm setting my expectations very low for it BTW, it's never gonna make the top 40

DOWNS:
Shape of You at number 1. Okay, okay... I love Ed Sheeran but that song is, eh.... not very good.
After The Afterparty still in the top 40?
Call On Me in the top 10. Pretty bad generic song

And a neutral... how on earth is that Jax Jones song in the top 10? He's not had a hit since I Got U with Duke Dumont.

avatar

Calum Pk7

4

ive got more similarities to you than last week ;)
ups:
-shed a light finally reaches top 40 (ive loved it since its release in November)
-ed sheerans at 1&2. x was one of my fave albums of the last few years so I'm excited for divide. ;) I prefer shape of you but castle on the hill's good too
-I don't mind olly murs entering the top 100- years and years is good but you don't know love was definitely better. id be quite happy if he reaches the top 40 although as u said he wont
-3 very good very new songs reach top 10- call on me, you don't know me and September song. its great when theres movement in the upper reaches of the charts.
-one song you didn't mention was Bad Things- I love the song and am so happy it not only reached the top 40 but also reached no 23! it should be top 10/15 soon
-I must be psychic as the 4 songs I mentioned as hopeful climbers 2 weeks ago all had massive climbs this week- the 4 I mentioned in the last 2 ups ;)
- u also didn't mention don't leave by snakehips- so glad that it reached the top 40 at first attempt!
-sigala and ed sheeran re-entered
downs:
-human went ahead of rockabye- I just hate that song
-anything else? dunno- I literally believe that this week was the best I can remember recently- great new entries and climbers and a good new no1 ;) still not the same as u but not as opposite as last week

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

-1

I've not heard Snakehips' new song yet, and Bad Things is fairly bad IMO, it lacks substance and I hate Camila. Shed A Light is like the first good dance song in the top 40 in about three months (well, I said 'like'

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

what did Camila do to u?

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

-1

Don't get triggered, it's my opinion

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

a very rude one ;(

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

-1

All I said is that I hate Camila. Not like I insulted her or anything. Then again, this is coming from the guy who likes Sexual and everything by Fifth Harmony but dislikes Mr Brightside

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

saying u hate someone for no reason is an insult ;( and do u realise that that's teenager music and that's what I am so...

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

mr Brightside came out when I was at nursery and I hate rock so that's why I don't like it

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

And I'm sure you'd be insulted if I explained why I hate her... Look, I'm a teen too that likes some music from a variety of different genres, including pop, dance, EDM, alternative rock, indie rock, electronic rock, dance-pop and pop-rock. However, I generally dislike generic teen-pop and bubblegum pop, especially those from the last year or so. Most of the pop I do like is from artists such as Ed Sheeran, Olly Murs, Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes, John Newman and a fair bit more

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Well I disliked basically all rock about a year ago but I have gotten into certain softer subgenres

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

fair point, but except rock I don't really dislike any genre. my faves are probably edm and pop, but only really stuff in the charts. spose we have different opinions. john newmans ok (but ole was bad) and those other artists are pretty good. it does seem like u only like male artists tho

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

and I dunno what bubblegum pop is

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

We all have different opinions and in my opinion Camila Cabello Is great ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

anyway... why do u hate her? don't make an opinion just yet- she hasn't released an official solo record yet. she will in like april or may, with album in the summer. make an opinion after that

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

u never know her music mightn't be what u expect. don't be too hasty to hate

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

she said she was uncomfortable with 5h being overly sexual

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

-1

Well she was a member of Fifth Harmony and she can't sing. Simple as that; even the song she did with Shawn wasn't that good

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Bubblegum pop is basically a synonym for teen pop, thus IDK why I said both of those

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

-1

Admit it though, lots of female artists sound the exact same and have no shine.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Oh that's good then. She's only like 19 anyway

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

But yeah Ole was bad

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

bang on! lemme guess ur only like 1 year younger.

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

I loved ikwydls. it was like my fave duet ever

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

dunno really. but camila sounds different

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

well I love her voice

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

I loved loads of songs by females last year (starving, flex, side to side, aint my fault, I would like, that's my girl etc.) so maybe that's just the music I like. ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

and I suppose the last time my fave song at the time didn't involve a female was cheat codes in the summer (my faves since have been flex then starving then I would like now bad things) so that music be my style

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

*must* that music must be my style

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

how do u know her age anyway? I do bcos I'm a fan but ur not :/

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

I think on the article about her leaving H, it said 'the 19-year-old singer' or something

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

-1

Well, that's kind of true but not in a good way

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

oh ok I was wondering

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

A few actually. Why are you asking?

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

dunno

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

its a good way to me ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

how can u say that some of the notes she hit in ikwydls and bad things weren't amazing?

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

u don't sound my age u sound older

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

We're probably round about the same age, just I have a somewhat mature taste in music these days

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

oh ok

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

and anyway its called what a particular person likes, nothing is necessarily better or more mature

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

ru clever? bcos u sound it for our age

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

If I say so myself, yeah

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I'm clever too- I'm in the top 10 / 12 people in top set- but I don't talk in a clever way I talk in like slang and abbreviations and stuff

avatar

Calum Pk7

Ed Sheeran has set an Official UK Singles Chart record this week- he has become the first artist to enter the charts at positions 1 and 2 with new tracks. "Shape of You" debuted at number 1, and "Castle on the Hill" entered at numbered 2. Personally, I think "Castle on the Hill" is the better song. I think "Shape of You" sounds like "Cheap Thrills" by Sia.

"Shape of You" (written by Ed Sheeran, Steve Mac, and Johnny McDaid) was initially written for Rihanna, but Sheeran decided to keep it for himself because he felt some of the lyrics would not fit the Barbadian singer. "Castle on the Hill" (which was produced by Benny Blanco) is about Ed Sheeran's experiences at Framlingham Castle in the market town of Framlingham in Suffolk, England.

"Rockabye" by Clean Bandit (feat Anne-Marie & Sean Paul) falls from number 1 to a respectable number 4 this week.

Has anyone else noticed that "Mr. Brightside" by the Killers has now been on the Top 100 charts for a combined total of 155 weeks? I did some fact-checking and found that "Mr. Brightside" is now the second longest running song on the Top 100 charts. The current record holder is "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol which was on the charts for a combined total of 166 weeks. So, "Mr. Brightside" is only 12 weeks away from breaking the record. If "Mr. Brightside" can somehow remain in the Top 100 from now till the first week of April, it will make history.

avatar

Painmix King

-1

The late Peter Sarstedt at No.48 in sales chart and David Bowie at 32, but nowhere to be seen in this chart. Just shows how farsical the system is nowadays

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

well its better than last year. its now 150 streams = 1 download, whereas it used to be 100=1. so its more favourable of downloads now than it was in 2016

avatar

Sakgra

1

i have the feeling that JP Cooper and Starley they re gonna stuck at no1 and no2 for a long time

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

I hope Call on Me doesn't hit that high, but September Song is pretty good, so...

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

love both those songs they wont reach 1&2 though 5/6 at best ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

hey, what's up mates! ok, so since ed sheeran is off to a great start *and possibly in america next week too ;)*, i thought we'd take a look @ his biggest u.s. success so far, which is the 'x' album and singles :). i'll have 'em up in just a lil' bit ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

4

hot 100 'x' singles:

1. 'sing' enters on 4/26/2014 @ #15 -14-16-15-15-16-13 *final peak*. remains in the top 20 for about 2 1/2 mos.

2. 'don't' enters on 6/28/2014 @ #46-72-81-87-86-91-84-69-50-51-47-34-30-25-22-17-17-13-10-11-9 *final peak* spends 2 wks in the top 10.

ok, so the first single has a strong amt. of radio airplay and streaming/downloads the first week to debut right in the top 15. and has a steady run within the top 20, unable to crack the top 10, but don't worry, that's coming up shortly ;)

and the 2nd single, looks like there was a very sharp decrease in the amt. of radio spins and downloads the 2nd week and for about a month thereafter. and it seemed to be hanging on by a thread in the 9th wk @ #50...like u.s. radio didn't know what to do with the single. some stations played it and some didn't, some played it quite a bit and some decreased the amt. of spins. it slowly makes it's way into the top 10 but only remains for 2 wks as a top 10 hit. but wait...he ain't done yet ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Wow... 'Sing' spent that long in the Top 20 in the US?? I have to be completely honest, I thought it flopped on the Hot 100. It actually surprised me that it had more staying power than 'Don't' did. I'm looking forward to seeing the chart run of 'Thinking Out Loud' though... ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

wait 'til you see the chart run for 'thinking out loud'...i think even you will be surprised ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I know that it took a while to climb to it's peak & then got eight weeks at #2 there. Well it's chart run must've been impressive if it was the second biggest song of 2015 in the US! :D
Over here, it has the record of the longest climb to #1 on the singles chart after debuting (19th week).

avatar

Sunshine Gal

4

hot 100 'x' singles cont'd.:

3. 'thinking out loud' enters on 10/25/2014 @ #69-79-75-84-68-62-40-39-24-6!-4-7-4-4-2 *final peak*. will remain @ the #2 spot for 8 consecutive wks and spend a whopping 23 consecutive wks in the top 10!! *nearly 6 straight mos.!* will fall off the hot 100 chart on 11/28/2015 *spends 1 full yr on chart* and will become the hot 100's #2 song of the year :))))!

4. 'photograph' enters on 5/30/2015 @ #92-58-52-42-41-34-30-25-24-21-20-20-19-15-15-12-12-10 *final peak*. spends 5 mos. on the chart.

alright!! :)))! one thing i have to say, following the hot 100 all these years...ANYTHING can happen! a song can remain on the bottom of the chart for years (not really) and then become the biggest hit ever! with 'thinking out loud', obviously off to a very slow start. being @ #84 also has the potential to fall completely off the chart and tech. no longer a 'hit'. as we can see, either u.s. radio had a change of heart ;), had lots of requests, or had the song grow on them.

in the 7th week (#40), airplay quickly increases for 'thinking out loud' and seems to be increasing big time in radio spins and downloads and makes a big leap right outside the top 5 @ #6. floats between 4-7 and then makes that memorable lock @ the #2 spot for 8 straight wks (i recall seeing that) and ends up becoming the 2nd biggest u.s. hit of that year! & for any song to remain in the top 10 for 6 straight mos., just shows how much u.s. radio liked it (or just liked playing it) and what a positive response it got. nothing technically history making with 'thinking out loud', but still an amazing top 10 and esp. the 8-wk lock @ #2 run.

and 'photograph' to me just looks like an average run on the chart..i did see for the chart on 7/18/15 that 'photograph' would be @ #25 and 'thinking out loud' would be @ #24. but 'photograph' will remain on the chart for 5 mos.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

it seemed to be swimming on the bottom of the chart for a long time. and you and i both know, that the longer a song stays @ the bottom of the chart, there's a good chance it can completely fall off the chart. and even i didn't know it was the #2 song of the year ;).

avatar

Piran

2

So it took 'Thinking Out Loud' 15 weeks to reach it's peak & 'Photograph' 18 weeks to reach it's peak. Yeah, it was awesome seeing the songs jump up the Hot 100 each week. Also, 23 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 for the former is awesome! That's the same as what 'Closer' & 'Love Yourself' have spent in that region... :O

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

yeah...see what took me so long yesterday? ;) i knew it was a big hit, but mate...i counted 23 straight weeks in the top 10 for 'thinking out loud' :)))! even i was surprised by that! and it remained on the chart a full year... i couldn't believe it! i recall the spice girls and tlc being in the top 10 for a good 6 mos. with their singles. i believe jt did with 'sexyback', 'my love' and 'what goes around...'

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i'm doing the 'x' 200 chart run, right now and wait 'til you see those stats ;).

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I can understand that now! :P LOL
I didn't know 'Thinking Out Loud' had the longevity to last 52 weeks on the Hot 100 though! I know it's got something like 100+ weeks on the Official Charts.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

3

'x' 200 albums chart:

enters on 7/12/2014 @ #1!! will spend the first 5 wks in the top 10, bounces up and down in the top 30 until 12/27/2014 (will briefly go back to the #10 spot). i counted 44 non-consecutive wks just in the top 10!! :))) that's 11 mos. :)

here's the chart run starting on 12/27/2014 *keep in mind, 5 mos. after debut week* when 'x' bounces back in the top 10: 9-8-7-3-2-4-4-2-3-4-5-6-5-8-7-6-12-9-9-8-11-10-13-8-7-5-6-4-7-4-4-5-8-6-4-6-2-5-6-9-9-13. :D see why i wrote the first post the way i did? ;)

'x' album will spend about a yr and a half (about 85 wks total) on the overall 200 albums chart and will become the #2 album of the year for 2015. and the 'x' album will go on to 4x plat. (4 mill.), so congrats again to ed!! i was exhausted tracking each and every week, esp. in the top 10!! i never realized how big his album really was over here...so what an amazing run on both charts for ed! and next week, he should be back and maybe making history ;) in the hot 100's top 10 :).

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok mate, i have the x album chart run up...believe me, i had to condense the post :D tell me what you think ;)

avatar

Piran

0

I'll take a look right now! ;)

avatar

Piran

2

Interesting! I definitely didn't know that Ed was moving in & out of the BB200's Top 10 that many times. Did you know that 'x' was second biggest album of 2015 in the US as well? The #1 was Tay-Tay's '1989'! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

not @ all! haven't been too interested in the 200 chart...the hot 100 was always the most fun for me. but mate, 44 wks in the top 10!!?? george michael's 'faith' album spent around the same time in the top 10 back in the day ;) if ed's chart run happened about 15+ yrs ago, no doubt it'd be diamond ;)

avatar

Piran

1

We need to check the RIAA certification for 'x' in the US. Didn't you say that 'Thinking Out Loud' received 7x platinum recently? :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well on 6/28/2016 it received a 7x plat. certification. can you just imagine if the same batch of feats happened for our 1D mates??!! talk about making history left and right! see why i want them to come back as a group? it'd be such a shame to throw all those potential history making feats away forever :/

avatar

Piran

1

1D have already achieved a few history making feats in the US already, but that would be great if they could come back one day & get more! :)
Anyway, I'm going to sign off now, so I'll see you on Tuesday then! Have a great weekend Sunshine Gal.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well yeah, but they have/had the potential to even be 10x bigger. ed's just 1 guy who was able to do all that...1D had 5 british guys the american girls really liked. if 1D was able to do what ed did, i guarantee their momentum would've been even bigger ;). even today, no group has spent 1 year in the top 10 on either chart, no uk group has notched 10 wks @ #1 on the hot 100...the still unaccomplished feats are numerous! i mean, ed was able to come very close to those things...i don't see why 1D can't.

but anyway, this was fun! help me think for next week's batch of throwbacks...this wore me out LOL! not as much as the beatles did though, but i'd be lying if i said i wasn't taken aback by ed's chart runs. ok mate, i'll catch your ar$e on tues :D take care!

avatar

Piran

1

What is the longest Hot 100 #1 by a British group then & how long did it stay at the top for? Oh who did you say your next throwback would be about?
This is definitely my last post to you for tonight, but have a great weekend & I'll chat to you on Tuesday! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

to my knowledge, the beatles 'hey jude' is the longest run for a uk group @ #1 @ 9 wks. not sure how long it remained in the top 10 or anything, but bb still ranks 'hey jude' as the 10th on their top 10 all time list.

well, i don't know who'll be my next batch of throwbacks...1D? then they can come back as a group? LOL! all they gotta do is have a better public relations team and their management needs to have firm talks with all 5 guys about what they make as public knowledge. i think if our mates came back and esp. the right way, they could prob. do what ed did ;). ok mate, i'll talk to you on tues :)

avatar

Techfan

4

Sing was one I'd thought would have entered the Top 10 while Don't I thought it'd drop out but somehow it did a surprising U-turn and became a hit.

avatar

Techfan

2

Had UF! not existed, TOL would have been #1 for at least 8 weeks. Photograph was a steady but slow climber. Based on Ed's prior chart runs, you wouldn't have expected him to have 2 Top 10 debuts in a single week. Hopefully, they'll have some longevity ... :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well with 'don't', i was just surprised how long it was outside the top 40 and didn't fall off the chart ;D. i mean, in the 6th wk, it's @ #91...you and i both know of course anything can happen, but you can also fall right off the chart in that last bracket.

avatar

Techfan

1

So, now throwback for The A Team?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

yep!! i still remember ed stuck behind uptown funk :D. but i couldn't believe how many wks 'thinking out loud' spent in the top 10! i think i counted a few wks @ #3 *after it fell out of the #2 spot* and then just locked @ 4, then 5 :D and just going up and down the top 10 until it fell out after spending 23 wks in the top 10. i mean, that's like 6 straight mos. in the top 10!

but yeah, we'll see how these next 2 singles do...even if they both fall out after 1 week, it'll still be an incredible history making feat. can't believe there's still more history to make after all these years ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! :)
Before I go, I just wanted to let you know that a Billboard article was published saying that 'Shape Of You' is likely to debut at #1 on the Hot 100 next week. It'll be even better considering it will dethrone 'Bad & Boujee'. :P LOL
Anyway, see you soon. ;)

avatar

Techfan

2

TIO definitely had quite long run in the Top 10 and the Hot 100 in general.

Regarding the two new singles, we'll see how they hold up in sales and streaming the next week. At least, SoY seems to already be within the Top 20 of Radio Songs and might near the Top 10 by the end of the tracking week. Sadly, CotH has less audience than Million Reasons, to cite an example ... ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

million reasons...is that lady gaga? maybe ed can also notch more upcoming top 10's later on ;). and then watch 1D come back :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

no, i just wanted to take a look @ the 'x' album since that was his biggest success over here. plus, this batch of throwbacks alone was very time consuming :D maybe later on i'll take a look back @ his debut album ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

yeah don't did the same In the uk started low then climbed to 8 or 9. sing was no1 here though

avatar

TheInkAndThePaper

3

Nice to see Shed A Light and No Lie climbing.

Mr Brightside hurtling towards the record! YES!

Not a fan of the new Ed Sheeran songs. If these songs were by anyone else, nobody would sniff at them. I'm sorry but he's terribly overrated IMO. 3 years and these are the best singles he can come up with?

"I'm in love with your body" x100. YAWN.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Yeah Shape of You is pretty inferior IMO, but I am a fan of Ed in general, which kind of forms my opinion on the song. As for Castle On The Hill (great song) it is fair to say if it was by anyone else it would do J.S but Shape Of You is far too mainstream to not be popular

R

RIME

1

Looks like Human isn't gonna get that topper. Ironic that once it finally passes Rockabye it gets blocked by not just one but two debuts.

avatar

Dan Love

3

If the Sheeran singles hadn't been released, I doubt Human would have got to number 1. Most of the people listening to Sheeran were probably listening to Rockabye before.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Rock = no chance of number 1. That's why I bet Castle On The Hill won't hit #1.

G

Gail

2

Very Inpressed as Ed Sheeran has made chart history entering at number 1 and 2, Big Well done to him!!! Also impressed how much movement is in the top 10 with "September Song", "Call on Me" & "You Don't Know Me" as they made great leaps today to the top 10. Also glad to finally see a refreshed top 10. Really like this new chart system!! Anyway very good way to start of 2017 even thought not or the first week. Does anyone how many sales Ed Sheeran got this week?

avatar

Piran

2

Shape Of You: 227,000 total sales (137,000 downloads & 13.4 million streams)
Castle On The Hill: 194,000 total sales (120,000 downloads & 11.07 million streams)

J

Jstar

5

Well I haven't really payed attention to the charts in the past few weeks. But Ed debuting at 1 and 2 is extraordinary. A big congrats to him.

That was cool though that Rockabye was the longest running number 1 for Clean Bandit. Also a few more songs by Ed re-entered. So this really was the week for Ed

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Jstar! Where have you been over these past few weeks? :P LOL
Anyway, nice to see you back! What do you think of the two new Ed Sheeran singles then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

about time your ar$e came back!! hey, i won't be online this weekend, but i'll be back on the bb articles on tues. my laptop is being fixed @ the moment. gonna watch any nfl playoffs this weekend? ;)

Jstar

1

The first round of the playoffs were pretty lame lol. Hopefully this week will be better. But I am happy my Dolphins even made the playoffs. We haven't made it in 8 years before that.

J

Hey Piran. Well first December wasn't a good month for me. I just was sick all the time with something different.

I honestly just haven't felt too excited about the charts lately. Nothing was grabbing my attention. I really haven't listened to music on my personal time either. I have yet to hear the number 1 song on the billboard hot 100. I still haven't listened to either of Ed's songs. But I will listen to all those songs over the weekend. Well I hope everything has been going good for you though. I will have to take a look at some of the lists you did the previous week's.

avatar

Piran

1

Well I hope you weren't too sick for Christmas. Hopefully you'll join us on the next BB200 & Hot 100 articles though. :)
Over these past few weeks, the UK charts have been good, but the Hot 100 hasn't been too interesting. 'Rockabye' was #1 all of this time over here, but memes like 'Black Beatles' & 'Bad & Boujee' have been dominating the Billboard charts, but at least 'Starboy' also got to #1 in the US though!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, if it makes you feel any better my giants got eliminated too...thank god for the blackhawks and golden state. my bulls need to step up their game though. on mon. cleveland will be @ golden state ;). and the cavs beat the warriors a few wks ago in a really tight game!

J

Jstar

3

I should be on, on Sunday and Tuesday. I assume it will post Tuesday because of MLK day. I was pretty much dead on new year's Eve. I was feeling terrible all day. But I have been feeling ok physically so far this month.

If it wasn't for the discount for Starboy that week. It would have went from Black Beatles to Bad & Boujee. I will have to listen to it though because I never heard of it. It just came out of nowhere though and rose to number 1. It most likely will return to number 1 2 Mondays from now after Ed most likely debuts at number 1.

Well I know that song by Taylor and Zayn rose again thanks to the new trailer for the movie.

avatar

Piran

1

I'll be on for most of Sunday, but I might be a bit late on Tuesday. I'm pleased to hear that you're fine at the moment, but it's a shame to hear that you weren't so good on New Year's Eve.
Well 'Bad & Boujee' isn't that great to be honest, but I agree with you that 'Shape Of You' will probably get only one week at #1. As for Zayn & Taylor, I think IDWLF will be back in the Top 10 soon, especially when the official video is released! ;)

J

Jstar

1

Everyone lost badly the first week lol. Cavs>Warriors lol. Jimmy Butler has been really good and D-WADE has been good also. But everyone else seems to be really inconsistent.

Well I hope it goes well for you at the chiropractor. I have been feeling well in January so far. Are you a fan of the number 1 song on the Hot 100? I haven't heard it yet.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh yeah, jimmy's my guy...he's out with the flu, hence why rondo (my least fave bull) has been one of our starters. and heck no i can't stand the current #1...i did check it out on youtube LOL! let's just say, 1 time (even though i quickly changed to another vid before it finished) was more than enough.

do you watch any other nba or sports teams besides the heat?

J

Jstar

1

That is cool for Zayn and Taylor. Maybe the video will come out soon. Debuting at number 1 is awesome. So it won't be bad if he falls during the second week. Which of his new songs do you prefer better? Also what list were you planning on doing this week?

J

Jstar

1

The NBA is my favorite out of all the major leagues. So I know a lot about different teams and players in the NBA. I watch some Football. But I pay attention to it more during the playoffs. I casually pay attention to baseball and Hockey. I use to like Baseball a lot when I was younger. But I really don't care for it to much anymore.

Well just because you hate the number 1 song. I will probably love it lol. I have to give it a listen later though. It most likely will return to 1 the week after ED debuts at number 1.

avatar

Piran

1

Well there's no guarantee that Ed Sheeran will debut at #1 in the US, but it seems quite likely for now! :)
In terms of his singles, I would give 'Shape Of You' a strong 6/10 & 'Castle On The Hill' a 9/10 at the moment. :D
I'm going to be doing favourite #2-peaking albums on the next Hot 100 article. Are you going to do #6-peaking songs on the BB200 this Sunday then?

J

Jstar

1

It seems like most likely it will debut. But it did drop more in sales as the week went on. So it might be closer then we originally presumed. Shape of You is the song that most likely will debut at 1. But that is cool you like his other song better. So 2 peaking albums. That is interesting. I will have to check what albums peaked at 2. If billboard isn't lazy and posts the billboard 200 article at a decent time. Then I will do my list Sunday.

avatar

Piran

1

I need to do a bit of research on #2-peaking albums myself! We'll also be doing 'only #1s' (favourite songs that were an artist's only Hot 100 #1) & then favourite Grammy 'Song Of The Year' winners for the week after. :)

J

Jstar

1

I remember we did a Grammy list too last year. That is cool we are doing another one. That other list sounds cool. So the artist can only have 1 number 1 song. I will make that work but have to do a little research.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, there have been a quite a few new commenters since last month. Yeah, the artist can only have one #1 song. I'm also going to do a few Grammy-related polls on each article as well.
Also, I'm posting my Top 10 favourite songs & throwbacks of the week on every Hot 100 & BB200 article respectively. :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, you are a heat fan, so i'm not surprised ;) hey, why haven't you checked out my ed throwbacks?? *never mind, i see that you finally checked them out :D*

J

Jstar

1

There have been a few new people on billboard. Also since we did some of these lists over a year ago. Some people might have new songs that they want to add to a list we had already done. So it is good to do the same list again after awhile. I look forward to your polls and your favorite songs and throwbacks. Well since it is Friday I have to work late. So I have to get ready to go back to work. It was great talking to you Piran. I should see you on Sunday. Take care.

J

Jstar

0

I gave them all a like lol. Well I actually have to get back to work since Friday is my late day. Good talking to you Sunshine Gal. I should see you on Tuesday. Also go Heat! 2018 champions haha!

avatar

Piran

1

I look forward to seeing your lists & reviews too Jstar! Well hopefully I'll chat you on the BB200 article, if Billboard aren't late posting it again... LOL
Have a good day then! :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hahah LOL! that last part cracked me up...thanks!! :) well, i do want the bulls to win it, but they got a long way to go, wouldn't mind golden state winning it. ok young man, i'll catch you on tues :)

avatar

Techfan

1

Your laptop is messed up, again? So, you definitely know the NFL games I'm watching closely this weekend.

BTW, as much as I can I have decided to start somewhat of a detox eating diet for 21 days. I'll probably will go for a lacto-ovo veg diet, although if I have to eat out, I might not be able to adhere strictly to it. Any recommendations? ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

yeah the disk drive needs to be fixed and a couple of viruses...so back to the library LOL! oh tell me what you think of the ed throwbacks...i had no idea he did that good on both the hot 100 (thinking out loud spent 1 full yr on the chart) and on the 200 chart.

sorry buddy, i have no idea what the heck a lacto-ovo veg diet is...no milk or olives? :D well, good luck...are you gonna watch the playoffs this weekend?

avatar

Techfan

0

Well, I'm not quite reading to give up eggs and diary, but otherwise it is vegetarian +. ;P

avatar

Techfan

1

I thought so to. Too many of the losers had major injuries to their QBs which made them less competitive. I'm sorry for your Dolphins, but they seem to be a team on the rise.

So what do you think of the Chargers moving to LA? I'm mad! :! Their new logo looks like the Dodgers' one. Couldn't they at least made the letters yellow or gold instead of white?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

the chargers...? you mean the rams?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

is it a vegan diet? carrie underwood is a vegan, who i highly admire, but that's too much for me. :D

avatar

Techfan

0

No. They just announced that yesterday ...

avatar

Techfan

-1

Yeah, your Bulls got into another bad losing streak. That game on Monday will hopefully be another exciting one!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

so the chargers are leaving san diego?? and l.a. will have 2 football teams?

avatar

Techfan

1

Not strict vegan which is the most extreme type of diet. ;P

avatar

Techfan

1

Yep, they'll play in the L.A. Galaxy's stadium which has room for 30k fans. ;P

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

gee thanks LOL! and yes i know ;). we got the nba package and i never miss a bulls and warriors game. and are you talking about the cavs/warriors game for this monday? and darn right ;). they're gonna be @ oakland and it's very rare for the warriors to lose @ home. but as we saw in their last matchup, anything can happen :) and yeah, i can't wait for that game and also tonight's blackhawks game. they're @ the washington capitals 2nite.

avatar

Techfan

2

Too bad to hear that! Don't worry, B&B is just plain worse ... ;P I do hope you like Castle on the Hill!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

so, is ed slated to enter @ #1 and #2 next week? or just 2 debuts in the top 10?

avatar

Techfan

1

I see BB just posted an article saying SoY could have a #1 debut in the Hot 100, with CotH in the Top 10. I guess for the latter they didn't want to commit to saying Top 5. I suspect that means it'll actually get #6 or #5.

To quote BB: "And, if "Castle" begins in the top 10, joining "Shape" in the region
from the start, Sheeran would be the first artist to debut two songs in
the top 10 simultaneously in the Hot 100's 58-year history."

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

whoa!! well the chargers are my ex's team, so :D. wonder what the st. louis fans feel about the rams moving to l.a.? but the rams were doing really bad for so long and no doubt, couldn't sell out the venue 100%.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

one day i might try the vegan thing...for now, being vegetarian is pretty good. do you drink protein shakes or anything?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

yep!! i thought so! i told piran i don't think i've ever seen any artist have 2 top 10 debuts in the same week :). that's gonna be awesome! and esp. for those of us who've seen every #1 debut since mj ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

No. I think I'll try to get my protein from beans, eggs and diary. I mean, I really don't like the taste of plain soy milk.

avatar

Techfan

1

Yep! Regardless, it'll be a great achievement for Ed. I mean, as big as Drake was last year he couldn't get the achievement. ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

That is, unless they decide to post both on Tuesday ... :P

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

heck, for ANY artist, that's a heck of an achievement *i gotta watch my language, i get tons of 'hold on' alerts*. i mean, that's just awesome :). i'm not a big ed fan, but looking back on all the big songs and artists on the hot 100 over the years, it never ceases to amaze me how there's always another history-making feat right around the corner ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, i drink protein shakes and you can also use water ;). i mix a banana and peanut butter (i'm partial to the choco protein shakes) and my protein intake is always pretty good. the strawberry one (with the banana esp. ;)) is also pretty good.

avatar

Techfan

1

I'll look into trying that and let you know how it goes! No avocado rutabaga weirdo type mixes for me, though ... ;P

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh no, it's like drinking a thick milkshake, except it's nutritious. i can't stand the vanilla ones though...

so, who are you rooting for in the playoffs? and are you gonna catch the cavs/warriors game on monday?

J

Jstar

1

Hey Techfan. Hope all is well. I work 2 shifts on Friday so I am heading back to work now. Yeah, to many injuries. This round has to be a little better.

I just read about The Chargers. So we went from having zero LA football teams to 2. It would've been nice if they stayed in San Diego though. I haven't looked at the logo. I will have to check it out. The craziest thing though I found out was that Philip Rivers has 8 kids lol.

J

Jstar

1

The critics actually gave Bad and Bougee good reviews. But not according to everyone I spoke to on billboard so far lol. Most people do seem to prefer Castle on the Hill by Ed compared to his other song too.

avatar

Techfan

1

Critics are sometimes big time moron*s ... At least CotH seems more agreeable to most! SoY, well, you'll notice some Cheap Thrills and The Greatest musical influence ...

avatar

Techfan

1

Yeah, Philip Rivers with 8 kids. Although, he was born in Alabama, so maybe that's no surprise. Although, the fact that he is a devout Catholic is. Deep South that's probably not that common.

avatar

Techfan

1

I do like thick milkshakes! ;) Even they're only water with some milk powder or soy whey to thicken it as long as they do have some fruit taste to them. I'm not convinced on vegetables shakes, though.

I'll be rooting for the Texans (they probably have no chance, but wishful thinking!), Steelers, Packers and Falcons. I've decided that those 'Dirty Birds' deserve a chance. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok this is my last post for sure :D. well, def. try the shakes with some peanut butter (if you're not allergic and it adds more protein) and mix some bananas, blueberries, strawberries (whatever you like) esp. in the vanilla or strawberry ones. they even have choco/peanut butter ones that are prob. my fave. & then blend the shakes a good 30 sec. ;).

well for the football this weekend i'll be rooting for: atlanta and kansas city. def. don't want the steelers, patriots, packers and cowboys to advance any further :D but both atlanta and kansas city (i think also houston) have never been or it's been a long time since they reached the super bowl, correct?

avatar

Deonte Kelly

0

Well all 3 songs are influenced by the tropical house sound that started trending in Europe in 2015

avatar

Techfan

1

Falcons went to the Superbowl in the 1998 and lost to the Broncos. KC won Super Bowl IV. Houston has never had a team go to it (Oilers and current Texans). ;)

J

Jstar

0

I noticed the critics have given a few of these rap songs good reviews. That is what I heard about SOY. I guess some people are tired of that sound now lol.

Unfortunately for Ed it looks like both of his songs might suffer sizable drops in there 2nd week.

avatar

Painmix King

1

Sorry! Ithought this was a forum for The UK Charts. Can't you use your personal banter on facebook or somewhere

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

superbowl 4?? is that right :D well, it's certainly about time for another superbowl victory :D oh yeah i remember the oilers, warren moon was the qb right?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

-1

don't bother reading or responding then ;).

M

Martin

2

I agree with Painmix King, we want to read relevant comments regarding the charts and not have to wade through all your personal banter about American sports, your diets etc!!!!!!!!!!!!

avatar

Pekka Sahlberg

I was just about to say the same thing.

avatar

Paul Mount

-1

But it's not really "extraordinary" is it, because of the ridicluous way the charts are compiled these days. Nothing to see here.

avatar

MrMcCloud

1

You know Starboy went #1 right?

J

Jstar

1

Yes I know it went to number 1 for one week.

avatar

Naos

0

They're going to be late because of holiday.

avatar

Piran

0

So are both the BB200 & Hot 100 articles going to be published on Tuesday then?
Also, I just posted my Top 10 throwbacks of the week under my current Crown Note Top 40. :)

avatar

Naos

1

I think they may post the Billboard 200 article on its regular day, but not the Hot 100 one. I don't know. I just posted my official chart (the one that'll be posted on the Billboard 200 article when that time comes). I'll look at your chart soon. Also, I will be posted throwbacks soon as well.

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, I know the Hot 100 will be late, but I'll be surprised if the BB200 is also delayed.
Cool! I'll check out your personal charts right now. On mine for Tuesday: 'Shed A Light', 'Castle On The Hill' & 'Paris' are all contenders for #1 & these three songs are very close at the moment.

avatar

Naos

1

On my chart, "Shed A Light" climbed to #65, and Ed Sheeran's singles will be stuck in Bubbling Under. By the way, should I start posting those again? A Bubbling Under chart?

avatar

Piran

0

Nice! Hopefully it'll keep climbing. :)
Yeah, I would recommend restarting a Bubbling Under Chart again if you have time!

avatar

Naos

1

I will start doing it again. My throwback chart was just posted.

avatar

Calum Pk7

no starboy didn't get no1 in the uk. :/ although I would've liked the weeknd to get no1 it didn't

J

3

Oh, I know it didn't go number 1 in the U.K. I normally see him on the Billboard hot 100 articles. I meant it peaked at number 1 over there. I know it peaked at number 2 on the U.K singles chart.

Calum Pk7

1

oh yeah I just realised ;) u meant us

bravo!!!!

avatar

Dan Love

1

I agree

avatar

Techfan

1

Yep, Warren Moon and the 3/4 WR sets! So it seems I got my NFL playoffs predictions correct this weekend. It was a thrill to see the Cowboys lose do to a few mistakes they did. ;D Although, I get the sense that the Falcons might be able to beat the Packers. Of course, I'm rooting for the Steelers vs. the Pats, but if their offense plays the way they did yesterday, it won't be enough them to win.

Anyway, one thing I wanted to share with you is that I'll be helping a friend's wife to establish some written procedures for her handbag manufacturing operation, at least for this week. I hope to see you 2mor for the Hot 100 article. ;)

avatar

Painmix King

-1

We're reading this because we're on the website for the official UK charts. If you want to rabbit on about U.S. Sports i'm sure they've got relevant websites. So we expect to read about peoples opinion of the UK music scene not your personal life. That is all

avatar

Painmix King

-1

Just vote them down Martin, they might get it then

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

hey, who are you yelling @? and that's too bad if you don't like it :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

well, i'm def. rooting for the falcons, i was disappointed that the chiefs couldn't advance. and the greenbay/cowboys game was a thriller! did you catch the golden state/cavs game last night? exciting from the very beginning ;). i even recorded it...golden state never let go of their lead, even by about 40 min. my blackhawks had a 2-0 lead over the wild, but couldn't hold onto it :/ they lost 3-2. don't know if you caught the penguins/capitals game yesterday? went into over time, penguins won 8-7! :) tonight, i got the bulls and blackhawks :)

and what's this handbag thingy you're talking about? like you're designing something? and yes, i'll be on the hot 100 article today ;)

avatar

Naos

2

So, for the Top 10, I like "Just Hold On", and "Rockabye". That's it. Great, Ed Sheeran taking both top spots and "Rockabye" dropping down to #4? This was not a good week, at least for me.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

I'm assuming you're a dance fan then.

avatar

Naos

0

How can you make that assumption? While I did forget "Touch" by Little Mix, a song I kind of like as well, the rest of the Top 10 just plain blows for the most part, the only okay song being Zara Larsson's. And looking at my own personal chart, we don't get a dance song till "Rockabye" which is at #18, or arguably Carly Rae Jepsen's "Cry" at #17.

My thoughts & observations on the UK Charts as always…
- Big congratulations to Ed Sheeran this week, as ‘Shape Of You’ become his third #1 hit, following ‘Sing’ (one week) & ‘Thinking Out Loud’ (two weeks) from 2014. It’s also only the fourth song in the past 12 months to debut atop the Official Charts!
- ‘Shape Of You’ also set a new streaming record this week; the most global Spotify plays in one day (about 7.24M on Monday). As for my opinion on this song, it’s catchy & fun, but while I like the tropical inspiration, it’s becoming very generic on the radio now. So far, I would give this a strong 6/10, but it might grow on me with more listens.
- ‘Castle On The Hill’ also helped Ed make more chart history this week, as he becomes the first ever artist to debut at #1 & #2 on the singles chart in the same week. It might be the less mainstream of the two songs, but it’s easily the better one of them in my opinion. We really need more of this pop-rock sound back in the charts right now & his vocals are much more powerful than in ‘Shape Of You’, especially in the chorus. ‘Castle On The Hill’ is easily getting a 9/10 from me.
- By Monday, both songs had each sold over 100,000 in total figures (sales & streaming) in the UK. SOY & COTH combined were outperforming the rest of the Top 20 when the Official Chart Update was posted. Both singles are from Ed’s upcoming third studio album, called ‘÷’, which is due for release on the 3rd of March.
- All of this ended the nine-week reign of ‘Rockabye’. Only nine songs in the history of the charts have spent longer at the top though. Clean Bandit had an exceptional run with this song, but it was getting old, so I don’t mind it falling at all this week.
- Three artists earn their first Top 10s as lead artists; ‘September Song’ by JP Cooper (16-7), ‘Call On Me’ by Starley [Ryan Riback Remix] (26-8) & ‘You Don’t Know Me’ by Jax Jones ft RAYE (33-9). That’s a total of five new songs in the Top 10 this week & all good songs in my opinion, so definitely a positive there!
- Another four songs enter the Top 40 this week; ‘No Lie’ by Sean Paul ft Dua Lipa, bounding 44-28, giving Sean Paul his 22nd UK Top 40 & Dua Lipa her third. Meanwhile, ‘Don’t Leave’ by Snakehips & MO debuts on the chart at #33. Additionally, ‘Bad Things’ by Machine Gun Kelly & Camila Cabello (the latter formerly from Fifth Harmony) jumps 52-23. It’s already been a Top 10 hit in America & I really hope it succeeds over here too.
- Elsewhere, ‘Shed A Light’ by Robin Schulz & David Guetta ft Cheat Codes vaults 48-32. It’s David Guetta’s 31st Top 40 appearance & you may also remember Robin Schulz from his two #1s, ‘Waves’ & ‘Prayer In C’. With an awesome drop & Cheat Codes’ great vocals, this is already easily my favourite EDM song of 2017 so far. It’s predicted to keep climbing & I’m incredibly happy with that.
- Finally, I was also pleased to see ‘Glory Days’ by Little Mix lead the albums chart for a fifth week in total.
- Once again, the Top 40 was quite good in general this week. Thanks for reading this everyone & have a great weekend! :)

avatar

Naos

I really hope "Shed Of Light" blows up. I really like that song. Ed Sheeran though... no.

avatar

Piran

-1

I completely agree with you regarding 'Shed A Light'! I'm really pleased to hear that you like that song. :)
Unless another big artist returns though, Ed Sheeran could have the Top 2 to himself for a few weeks though. What do you think of 'Paris' by The Chainsmokers then? If anything, that could debut in the Top 10 next week.

avatar

Naos

1

I haven't heard "Paris" yet. And jeez, Ed Sheeran needs to go away.

avatar

Piran

1

I quite like 'Paris' at first listen, but I've enjoyed every song from The Chainsmokers (except #selfie) so far. Regarding the Ed Sheeran singles, do you hate them more than 'Bad & Boujee' then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey what's up mate!! i'll have the ed throwbacks up in just a lil' bit ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! I hope you're having a good day. :)
As you know, I can't wait to check out those Ed throwbacks. Did you say they were for the 'x' album?

avatar

Naos

-1

No, I don't. But the Sheeran singles are completely forgettable.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh yeah...i always take a look @ that artists' biggest success here...ok, mate i'll have 'em up in just a sec :p

avatar

Piran

1

Well in a few months from now, I'm sure '÷' will be Ed's biggest success in the US! Did I already tell you that the album will be released on the 3rd of March? ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, it's too soon to make any kind of predictions just yet...but wait 'til you see the 200 chart throwbacks ;). even i was blown away! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

All I know about the chart run for 'x' is that it got one week at #1 on the BB200. I'm sure it spent many weeks in the Top 10 though! ;)

avatar

Naos

0

I do think Ed Sheeran won't last long in the US. His sales are taking big falls. "Shape Of You" is out of the Top 10 in sales, and "Castle On The Hill" is almost out of the Top 40.

avatar

Piran

1

I think Kworb said that could be an incorrect update. According to the popularity bars, neither 'Shape Of You' or 'Castle On The Hill' were charting in the Top 100 of US iTunes a day ago, which is clearly wrong...

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

that ain't all she wrote mate :D ok, i'm still working on the 2nd batch of singles and then i'll have the 200 chart throwback up ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I already saw your post about 'Sing' & 'Don't' & responded to you there. There's definitely a lot I want to discuss with you about them! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok mate, i got 'thinking out loud' up :)))))!

avatar

Techfan

1

Hey Piran! SoY and CotH with 137k and 120k in download sales in the UK, which is quite impressive. It should be noted that 6 of Ed's prior hits were able to re-enter the Singles chart, and, X re-entered the Top 10 while + re-entered the Top 20 in the Albums chart. I guess this aren't common occurrences when a new song from an artist in the UK debuts, or are they?

It seems that Human might turn out to be this year's Cheap Thrills. I don't really follow the Singles chart when the latter peaked at #2, but it seems this week could have Human's best chance to reach #1, but Ed's new songs prevented it from reaching that peak.

Rockabye had a good run at #1 in the UK and it's just getting started in the US.

Regarding Shed A Light, I am also inclined to say I like it, although I'll have to hear it in its entirety to give it my personal ranking.

Next week hopefully will be the closest we've had to a normal chart week. Whether this week's moves are representative of what we should expect in the future will be best seen the week after that. At least one good thing that happened this is that Juju dropped out! That said, I have no idea why I can't access last week's Singles chart.

In the Albums chart, I'm glad to see people in the U.K. haven't forgotten George Michael and David Bowie.

Also, congrats to Little Mix for another week at #1 in the Albums chart. They prevented You Me At Six from getting their 2nd #1 album.

Have a great weekend if I don't get to talk to you until Sunday! ;)

I gave Paris a listen and feel I like it. The lyrics seem to be quite good! :)

I'm pleased to hear that you like it! Is your favourite song by The Chainsmokers then? :)
Also, do you think there's been an error with 'Shape Of You' & 'Castle On The Hill' on Kworb, or did they really drop in sales that fast?

avatar

Techfan

I think what happened is what happened to B&B a few days ago. One version lead to two. So maybe something similar happened. For SoY and CotH the versions of each song that were in the Top 5 according to kworb dropped out and were replaced for the versions with lesser sales. We would have to wait until the next kworb update to see how it continues to develop.

Look at my reply below! I think I figured out something fishy ...

Regarding The Chainsmokers, ask me in a few weeks. Closer is not it, though.

hey, i put up some ed throwbacks, tell me what you think ;)

Piran

For me, it's still 'Closer'! :P LOL
Speaking of which, I found it a coincidence that Halsey also decided to release a new song today. I wonder how that will perform...

avatar

Techfan

I haven't heard it, but we'll see if she can make it on her own. At least, it already started in the Top 10 of iTunes, which isn't a bad start.

It's quite usual that the older songs from an artist re-enter the singles chart & their previous albums ascend the albums chart to be honest.
Yeah, I agree that while 'Human' will get good Top 10 longevity, it won't got to #1 now. It did lead the sales chart for a couple of weeks though if I remember correctly, but 'Rockabye' always did better on streaming.
I'm very pleased to hear that you like 'Shed A Light' & it could be leading my personal Crown Note Top 40 for a sixth week when I update it on Monday.
Anyway Techfan, I'll chat to you during the weekend then. Have a good day! :)

avatar

Well, I'm not sure whether it'll be his best seller, but quite likely it'll have the most hits ... ;)

yeah that's what i was saying..it's really too soon to say 'this album will be even bigger than the last one'. you and i have seen many times, it's not as easy as it looks to top a previous big album.

Actually Ed Sheeran's album was put up for pre-orders, so there were two versions of his songs available for download: single version and album version. When that happens itunes always deletes the single version, and the album download versions surge on the download chart. :-)

The A Team,Thinking Out Loud and Lego House say hello(also to AC Radio)

avatar

Naos

0

Oh please, it's coming from the discount Jack Johnson.

avatar

Deonte Kelly

0

After his masterpiece "Brushfire Sunflies" Jack's work started deteriorating slowly except for the Curious George soundtrack he did, Ed needs to write a song for him

avatar

Naos

Johnson's Sleep Through The Static album was great. Sheeran came off as overly cheesy and quite boring.

avatar

Deonte Kelly

0

Hold On,Enemy and If I had eyes are the only songs i can't listen to forever on that album

avatar

Naos

And the only song I can tolerate from Sheeran is "The A Team". I even preferred Thomas Rhett's ripoff "Die A Happy Man" more than "Thinking Out Loud".

avatar

Deonte Kelly

Thomas Rhett does have an emotional advantage on that track because it's dedicated to his wife so that's understandable

So according to somebody in the BB article, the reason they disappeared from kworb is that they changed from standalone singles in iTunes and were replaced by tracks from his album. Thus, the former counts vanished and the new ones started a new count from 0. Currently, SoY at #4 and CotH at #22, so in a couple of days they should return close to where you'd expect them during the rest of the week. ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Fair enough. Thanks for that information Techfan! :)
Well if Kworb are correct with their prediction for the sales of 'Shape Of You' (247k), then it will have the highest debut in that metric since 'Can't Stop The Feeling's first week at #1 on the Hot 100. :D
Do you think 'Bad & Boujee' will go back to #1 for the week after next then? I hope not, but I think it will unfortunately. :/

avatar

Techfan

1

You're welcome! ;) So, if turns out even that SoY sells 225k as the BB article mentioned, which often is an underestimation, you're right it'd be the best seller since CSTF!'s 379k. :D

We'll see how streaming, sales and radio evolve during this tracking week for B&B vs. SoY. But something, I think B&B will be #1 that week. :|

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, 'Bad & Boujee' has gone down to a 3/10 rating from me. At least 'Juju' left the Top 10 this week though! :P LOL
So are there any albums that you're excited for in 2017 then? For me, definitely: Ed Sheeran's, Taylor Swift's (she should be releasing new music this year) & hopefully Jess Glynne's.

avatar

Techfan

1

Finally, you're starting to come to your senses! ;D BTW, the other B&B in iTunes apparently has disappeared if kworb is right. Still, SoY surpassed B&B to get to #3, so maybe what I said earlier is true. CotH is only #21 but should recover more over the weekend.

Regarding new albums for 2017, I saw the OC article they published a few days ago. Obviously, I look forward to Ed's, Lorde's (could lightning strike twice for her or will she suffer the sophomore jinx?), Katy's, JT's, TS's and TLC's (I wonder how they'll sound after all these years).

On the Halsey single from 50SD, it has already fallen to #7 in iTunes.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, 'Bad & Boujee' was hilarious at first & now it's just becoming annoying! :P
Well updating the Ed Sheeran singles, 'Shape Of You' is now back to #2 on US iTunes ('Paris' by The Chainsmokers still has about a 3:2 lead), while 'Castle On The Hill' is at #18. All of the songs I mentioned here are still gaining fast in sales.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Agree with you on Castle On The Hill, I'm known to dislike rock music but Ed pulled it off well.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Human was doomed from the no.1 spot, let's face it, I'm surprised it's came this far though

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Forgettable? Says the person who likes Rockabye and Just Hold On, the latter of which I've already forgotten what it sounds like (even though it's an okay song). Rockabye is just sellout s**t.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, 'Shape Of You' is decent in my opinion, but far from Ed's best. I just hope that 'Castle On The Hill' has a chance to go to #1 as well eventually.
I also saw your ups & downs of the week (I might start my own soon too) & I completely agree with you regarding 'Shed A Light'; I really want that to be a big hit. :)
Regarding 'Call On Me', I think the original by Starley is quite boring, but the remix of it by Ryan Riback is awesome!

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, I wonder how well 'Human' would've performed if Emily Middlemas didn't sing it on the X Factor. Oh what are your thoughts on 'September Song' then? :)

avatar

Naos

0

How is "Rockabye" a sellout? Do you even know what sellout means? It's obvious you're an Ed Sheeran fan who likely would like anything he puts out.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Nope, I dislike Shape of You. And 'selling out' is when an artist changes their sound to make it more mainstream. Before, Clean Bandit were a unique ECM (electronic classical music) band. Now they're just a generic tropical house group. The guy who left sure was smart

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Pretty good tbh

avatar

Naos

0

No, "selling out" refers to the giving up of artistic integrity and morality, in exchange for personal and material gain. Which, Clean Bandit didn't. They weren't unique, Lindsey Stirling's done electronic classical music for quite a long time.

avatar

Techfan

1

Figures that you'd get annoyed at B&B! :P

Anyway, I see that SoY has returned to #1 and CotH to #8. Plus, the digital sales estimations according for them for Tuesday's Hot 100 Top 10 have been upgraded for them to 270k and 187k, respectively, while degraded for B&B to 90k. Finally, SoY will be in the Top 20 in Radio Songs, but CotH seems to be a non-starter.

I don't see that HeadlinePlanet has posted any genre radio updates except for DWK reaching #1, so I wouldn't be too surprised if the BB 200 is posted until Tuesday at this point.

I'll talk to you later today or I guess on Tuesday. Have a great start to the week! ;)

avatar

Piran

0

Thanks for that information Techfan! Well even if 'Bad & Boujee' does go back to #1 for the week after next, I'm just happy that Ed Sheeran will finally earn his first Hot 100 #1. :)
Oh the BB200 just posted by the way. Hopefully I'll see you there soon!

Who'd have thought a the record you mention as a new entry breaking one of the 10 longest #1 runs ever would overtake it and be 3rd within a year to have a 9th (or more) week at #1?

I certainly didn’t! :P
