The Strokes are an American rock band from New York City. Formed in 1998, the band is composed of singer Julian Casablancas (born August 23, 1978 in New York City), guitarists Nick Valensi (born January 16, 1981 in New York City) and Albert Hammond Jr. (born April 9, 1980 in Los Angeles), bassist Nikolai Fraiture (born November 13, 1979 in New York City), and drummer Fabrizio Moretti (born June 2, 1980 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). The Strokes scored a UK Official Album Chart Number 1 with their 2006 release First Impressions of Earth.
