Bruce Springsteen racks up 10th UK Number 1, like a Boss

Scoring his tenth UK chart topper today, The Boss moves ahead of ABBA, Queen, Michael Jackson and David Bowie in all-time list of acts with most Number 1 albums!

Bruce Springsteen will no doubt be celebrating this evening after going straight in at Number 1 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart.

The Boss’s latest full-length, High Hopes, is his tenth chart topping album on our shores, which now puts him ahead of such legendary acts as David Bowie, ABBA, Queen and Michael Jackson who have all had nine Number 1 albums apiece in the UK.

With 10 chart toppers under his belt, Springsteen is now level pegging with the tallies of U2 and the Rolling Stones, while Elvis Presley and Robbie Williams each have 11 UK Number 1 albums. Madonna is in second place with 12 UK Number 1s, while The Beatles remain top of the tree with a career tally of 15 UK chart toppers.

High Hopes, is the follow-up to 2012’s Wrecking Ball (which also debuted at Number 1), and sees Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello join The Boss’s regular backing group, the E Street Band.

After two weeks at the top, Ellie Goulding slides one place to Number 2 with Halcyon, while Beyonce’s self-titled album is down to 3. Bastille’s Bad Blood (4) and Gary Barlow’s Since I Saw You Last (5) complete this week’s Top 5.

New Entries

In addition to Bruce Springsteen’s High Hopes (Number 1), there is only one other new entry on this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 40.

Irish singer / songwriter James Vincent McMorrow scores a personal best today, entering at 28 with his second album, Post Tropical. James’s 2010 debut, Early In The Morning, peaked at 68 on the Official Albums Chart.
