Released March 3 2022, Starlight was the second Number 1 track for Brixton-born rapper Dave on the Official Singles Chart, following Funky Friday, his 2018 collaboration with Fredo. Starlight boasted a very impressive opening week racking up 63,000 chart sales including 7.7 million streams – the highest of 2022 at that point – and was the first song of 2022 to debut at Number 1. Dave’s 11th Top 10 song, Starlight stayed at Number 1 for four weeks, making it the longest-running solo UK Rap Number 1 single in Official Chart history.
Written and produced solely by Dave, Starlight featured a sample of a rendition of Bart Howard's 1954 standard Fly Me to the Moon, recorded by Norwegian singer Angelina Jordan in 2017. It also became the first UK Number 1 to be written and produced by just one person since Calvin Harris’ Summer in 2014.
