The 1975 announced as ambassadors for Record Store Day UK 2023 with exclusive vinyl drop

The 1975 have been announced as this year's ambassadors for Record Store Day 2023.

Following in the steps of their peers Taylor Swift and Sir Elton John, Matty Healy, George Daniel, Adam Hann and Ross Macdonald will be celebrating the wonder and joy of independent record shops up and down the country, including the teams behind the counter who help to shape and influence the UK music industry. Record Store Day 2023 takes place this year on April 22.

There is also a very special surprise for The 1975 fans alongside the announcement - the band will be dropping a very special, exclusive limited edition record on vinyl and other physical formats to celebrate.

Originally recorded in 2016, the double-side vinyl will contain an exclusive live recording the band performed with the British Philharmonic Orchestra, including tracks taken from their self-titled debut and 2016's influential pop-rock opus, I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It.

Of the exciting new announcement, Matty Healy said in a statement: "The guys and I are really proud to be ambassadors for Record Store Day this year.

"Independent record stores are the lifeblood of the music industry and have played a crucial role in our story so far. It couldn’t be more important to support their vital community and culture.” 

The brand-new vinyl will include fan-favourite tracks such as The Sound, Somebody Else and the 1975's first big hit that put them on the chart map - Chocolate. 

The 1975’s release will be available in three formats: 2xLP clear vinyl in a gatefold packaging, 1x CD and 1x Cassette of this never-before released album.

This will be an exclusive drop to select record stores - check availability in your local store here via Record Store Day. 

Record Store Day is widely credited as one of the driving forces behind the recent vinyl resurgence. Now in its 16th year, the success of the event has sparked a huge turnaround in fortunes for the nations independent record stores whose unwavering resilience and ingenuity is helping them fight back against the coronavirus pandemic and cost of living crisis.
