Official Top 40 biggest albums of 2021 so far

Albums from Olivia Rodrigo, Dave and The Kid Laroi are among the UK's biggest of the year so far.

As we enter the final quarter of 2021, Olivia Rodrigo leads the way with the UK's biggest album of the year so far, OfficialCharts.com can reveal.

The US singer-songwriter’s debut album Sour leads the way as the top performing record of the year so far, with 320,000 chart sales. The collection debuted at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart in June and has notched up five non-consecutive weeks at the summit - and is yet to exit the Top 5. While Sour currently has a comfortable lead at the top, it could be all change before the year’s out. Olivia faces some serious competition to keep her place at the top, with a flurry of big releases incoming before the end of 2021 from the likes of Adele, Ed Sheeran, ABBA and Coldplay.

Behind Rodrigo’s Sour is Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia (192k), which continues to enjoy success long into 2021 thanks to its Moonlight Edition released in February, while Queen’s Greatest Hits completes the Top 3.

Dave with his Official Number 1 Album Award.

Dave’s second album We’re All Alone In This Together – which spent two non-consecutive weeks at Number 1 and has yet to exit the Top 10 since its release in August – is in fourth, and in anticipation of Ed Sheeran’s new album Equals, fans have returned to his 2017 album Divide, currently the year’s fifth biggest album.

Other big albums released this year on the year-to-date chart include Rag’n’Bone Man’s chart-topping Life By Misadventure (14), Justin Bieber’s Justice (15), and The Kid Laroi’s F**k Love mixtape (19), which entered the Top 10 for the first time this year.

Further down, Doja Cat’s latest record Planet Her is at 24, while Drake’s chart-topping Certified Lover Boy places at 30 – just ahead of Billie Eilish’s second studio album Happier Than Ever at 32.

Other big records in the Official year-to-date Top 40 include Foo Fighters’ Medicine At Midnight (33), a Number 1 in February, and Wild West, the Number 2-peaking mixtape by West London rapper Central Cee (36).
