Mark Knopfler teams up with over 60 rock legends for Teenage Cancer Trust charity single

The original song has become a cherished anthem for Newcastle United fans.

Mark Knopfler has announced a very special charity single featuring more than 60 rock legends including Bruce Springsteen, Brian May and Nile Rodgers.

Credited to Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes, the single is a re-recording of his hit 1983 instrumental Going Home and will raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America. The original version of song will be particularly familiar to fans of Newcastle United, Mark's home football team, where it has long been embraced as a match day anthem.

The new charity version, which also features the likes of Joan Armatrading, Sheryl Crow and Ronnie Wood, will be released on March 15 in various formats: CD, 12” with etched b-side, deluxe CD+Blu-ray, download and streaming. 

Going Home (Theme from Local Hero) has artwork by Sir Peter Blake, the artist known for co-creating the iconic cover of the Beatles' 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club and the the cover of the 1984 Band Aid single Do They Know It's Christmas?.
