Mariah Carey announces star-studded Magical Christmas Apple TV special

We're just about clinging on to summer, but the Queen of Christmas Mariah Carey is wasting no time in getting preparations underway for this year's festive season. 

This year Mariah is teaming up with Apple for Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special, which will debut on Apple TV+ later this year.

The special says it will feature "the legendary icon Carey and a star-studded lineup of surprise guest appearances, in a magical holiday journey to enliven the Christmas spirit around the world."

Apple say the show will combine music, dancing and animation, "driven by a universally heartwarming story that brings the world together."

Mariah will executive produce the show with Ian Stewart, Raj Kapoor and Ashley Edens, while Bafta Award winner Hamish Hamilton (Oscars, Super Bowl halftime show, London Olympics opening and closing ceremonies) and Golden Globe winner Roman Coppola will direct. 

Last year Mariah celebrated 25 years of her festive staple All I Want For Christmas Is You, which finally hit Number 1 in America last year for the first time.

In the UK, the song reached Number 2 upon its original 1994 release and has reached the same peak for the past three years.

It's going to be a busy few months for Mariah; her highly anticipated memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey is out on September 29, while a collection of unreleased songs titled Rarities is released on October 2.
