Welcome to the first Official Chart: First Look, which launches today (July 14) and offers an early glimpse of how the Official Singles Chart is shaping up.

The First Look provides the earliest possible glance at the Official Singles Chart based on early sales and stream reports - ahead of the regular weekly Friday rundown hosted by Scott Mills.

The Top 20 chart will be posted on OfficialCharts.com every Sunday, while the First Look show will air on BBC Radio 1 between 6pm-7pm, hosted by Cel Spellman and Katie Thistleton.

Highlights from this week's Top 20 are:

Ed Sheeran’s Beautiful People ft. Khalid is at Number 1 and is on course to become Ed’s seventh UK chart-topper, this Friday.

Following the release of Ed’s No.6 Collaborations Project, two more songs from the album are set to land in this week’s Top 5: Remember the Name ft. Eminem & 50 Cent (3) and Take Me Back To London ft. Stormzy (4).

Update (July 15): How Ed's No.6 Collaborations Project is performing in the UK this week.

A new remix of Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy ft. Justin Bieber could send it back into this week’s Top 20, currently up ten places to 13.

New entry for Krept & Konan’s I Spy ft. Headie One & K-Trap at Number 20.

I Don't Care: 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-out, the rule is ridiculous.

So the Official Chart Update has moved to a Sunday now? Interesting, but it runs the risk of being less accurate due to a day less of tracking.

Anyway, absolutely no surprise seeing Ed get three songs in the Top 5 & honestly, he could probably get them all in the Top 3 by Friday! :)

Love seeing 'Beautiful People' at #1 though, even if it is dethroning the far superior 'Senorita'!

Yes this is going to be really inaccurate as sales tend to dominate the first day due to new releases for those who dont stream yet then the impact of streaming through the total 7 days has a far greater impact by the end of the week. Will make older acts like Westlife, Madonna, Cheryl etc look like they are having a high chart postion to then flounder when the chart is revealed on the Friday! Not sure what is going on these days all these things trying to improve the official chart but it really does seem to be making more of a mockery of it

Yeah, you've got 48 hours to work with instead of 72 now! OCC always overestimated songs that had big sales anyway, so this is only going to amplify that problem.

I agree that all the "improvements" the OCC are trying to make are actually steps back in my opinion. :/

Hi Piran! Just to clarify, we never estimate - every chart we post is based on sales and streaming data that is sent to us from all the major platforms.

The idea to move the update to a Sunday was a combined decision by all the major and independent labels as well as us. Hopefully it'll provide an interesting early snapshot of how songs are performing. We've also kept Monday's Top 100 singles update going here: https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-chart-update/

We always love seeing your comments - thank you for following!

Dear OCC, Would you please also reflect on the fact that I Don't Care looks to be disappearing from the Top 100, as a result of that questionable rule?

Hi OCC! Thanks for your reply. :)

Yeah, I guess you can only go by the sales & streaming figures you have, so I think "overestimated" was the wrong word for me to use in hindsight.

So if there's an Official Chart Update on Radio 1 on the Sunday now, is this the exact same chart update that's posted on this website on the Monday?

Ah okay, I didn't realise that it was a combined decision rather than just one you guys made! I just think the bigger concern for this week for both me & most other regulars who comment here was seeing 'I Don't Care' dropout from #2 thanks to the two new chart rules. Because of these, it's not going to be listed in the Top 100 at all tonight, despite it probably being in the Top 3 most popular songs of the week (or at least the Top 5).

Finally, I'm very glad to hear that you follow my posts & that you like them, so thank you for that! You're welcome, I've always been a keen follower of the UK charts & I plan on staying that way for a while yet, haha.

Best wishes.

Piran.

I Don't care is now on ACR that's probably the only reason it's not one of the top 3 of Ed's. Yes it does make a mockery of the charts but that has been the case since 2017 anyway.
Interesting to see that Old Town Road is climbing again.... may turn out to be the real number one again.....
Of course this is based on 2 days of sales and one day of streams so things are likely to change....

What do you mean by ACR?

avatar

ACR is the accelerated chart ratio when they half the value of streams following 3 weeks of declining streaming (compared to the market average) on the 10th week (or beyond depending on when the decline occurs). This has led to several fake no.1s as well as large drops - frequently from no.1 and then the song may stabilize around a certain point (e.g. Old Town Road has been at no. 7 for the past 4 weeks).

shouldnt be allowed to delete any song label wants from the charts in 3 songs rule! it should be always - 3 the highest like this i dont care will have charts run like from the moon - 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-out

Absolutely ridiculous that a song that was #1 for 8 weeks drops to #2, then falls of the chart completely. Clear evidence that the chart is in no way a true reflection of popularity. Manipulation at its worst. The OCC need to have a rethink because this is making a mockery of the singles chart. Lunacy.

On the other hand, Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" was number 1 for 9 weeks in 2006, then like, 2 weeks later, was out of the chart completely.

Well that was indeed crazy

It went 2-5 and then out of the top 100 before re-entering at 30 in 2007. This was because the record company deleted the CD and at the time digital sales were only allowed for 2 weeks when there was no physical version. They changed the rules to allow digital sales without a physical presence in 2007 and Crazy then re-entered at no. 30 and hung around for another 8 weeks or so.
