Its official music video, which also featured members of the Foo Fighters, premiered on Thursday night's The Big Night In on BBC One.
Between 12.00pm and midnight, the single clocked up over 43,000 digital downloads.
The song was produced by Grammy award-winner Fraser T. Smith, and co-ordinated by BBC Radio 1 in aid of BBC Children In Need and Comic Relief, to provide essential support to people across the UK who will be significantly impacted by the coronavirus crisis.
