WILCO

Wilco are an American alternative rock band based in Chicago, Illinois, who formed from the ashes – well, the singer Jay Farrar left – of alternative country outfit Uncle Tupelo in 1994. Wilco’s line-ups through the years have morphed from the initial formation, with only singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer Jeff Tweedy (born August 25, 1967 in Belleville, Illinois) and bassist John Stirratt (born November 26, 1967 in New Orleans, Louisiana) remaining to this day. Wilco have released eleven studio albums, a live double album, and four collaborations including three with UK singer, songwriter and musician Billy Bragg. Wilco’s most successful album is the critically acclaimed 2001’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, selling 670,000 copies, and the 2004 follow-up A Ghost Is Born won two Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Recording Package in 2005.
