
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne in 1983, and initially consisted of singer, songwriter and vocalist Nick Cave (born September 22, 1957 in Warracknabeal, Victoria, Australia), multi-instrumentalist Mick Harvey (born August 29, 1958 in Rochester, Victoria) and guitarist-vocalist Blixa Bargeld (born Christian Emmerich in Berlin, Germany on January 12, 1959), and the current line-up features violinist and multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis (born February 14, 1965 in Ballarat, Victoria) bassist Martyn P. Casey (born July 10, 1960 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire) guitarist George Vjestica (born May 2, 1967 in Newcastle Under Lyme), keyboardist/percussionist Toby Dammit (born Lawrence Edward Crooke, December 13, 1966, Knoxville, Tennessee) and drummers Thomas Wydler (born October 9, 1959 in Zurich, Switzerland) and Jim Sclavunos (born in Brooklyn, New York). Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds formed from the ashes of Cave’s old group The Birthday Party, initially as a backing band for a Nick Cave album, they’d initially trialed the Cavemen as a band name before being officially christened the Bad Seeds in 1984.
