
Robert Palmer was born on January 19, 1949 in Bateley, West Riding, Yorkshire and was an English singer-songwriter, musician and record producer. Robert Palmer’s family moved to Scarborough after he was born, and by the time he’d hit his teens, Robert was singing with local acts on the northern club circuit, before joining the jazz rock 12-piece Dada which also featured singer Elkie Brooks. Robert and Elkie went off to form Vinegar Joe who released three albums for Island Records before disbanding in 1974, and Island picked Robert up as a solo turn. Robert Palmer enjoyed a string of hit songs throughout the 1980s and 1990s, such as Looking For Clues, Johnny and Mary and notably with the international smash Addicted To Love. Robert Palmer also joined supergroup The Power Station for an album and has also worked with the likes of UB40, Little Feat, Gary Numan and Talking Heads. He received two BRIT Award nominations for Best British Male Solo Artist. Robert Palmer died in Paris aged 54, following a heart attack on September 26, 2003. Image: ITV/Shutterstock
