will.i.am scores his tenth UK Number 1 single with It’s My Birthday

will.i.am will no doubt be partying like it’s his birthday this evening after clocking up his tenth Number 1 single here in the UK.

The US star’s new track, It’s My Birthday, featuring 17-year-old US singer Cody Wise, has gone straight in at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart.

will.i.am scored his first UK Number 1 single in 2003 with Where Is The Love, as part of The Black Eyed Peas. He would go on to have four more with the group (2009’s Boom Boom Pow, I Gotta Feeling and Meet Me Halfway, and 2010’s The Time (Dirty Bit)), and has now appeared on a further five chart-topping tracks as a solo artist.

Reigning chart queens Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea drop one place to Number 2 with Problem, while Ella Henderson also slides one to Number 3 with Ghost.

The Vamps climb 35 places to Number 4 with Somebody To You; the British boyband’s track has seen a sales boost this week following the release of a re-recorded version featuring former Disney princess Demi Lovato. This week’s Top 5 is completed by Budapest by George Ezra (Number 5).

New Entries

In addition to will.i.am’s It’s My Birthday FT Cody Wise, there are three other new entries on this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 40.

Jess Glynne is new in at Number 6 today with her debut solo release, Right Here. The 24-year-old singer/songwriter from North London already has two Top 10s to her name after providing guest vocals for Clean Bandit’s Rather Be and Route 94’s My Love. Both tracks reached Number 1 earlier this year.

MKTO, AKA Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller from Nickelodeon television series Gigantic, climb 71 places to make their Top 40 debut at Number 24 with Classic.

And finally, DJ duo Matrix & Futurebound enter 38 today with Don’t Look Back.
