Rogue One set to surpass The Force Awakens for total weeks at Number 1 on the Official Video Chart

We knew that Star Wars was hugely popular, and the super sales are continuing.

Rogue One may be a Star Wars spin-off, but the movie has the star (pun intended) power to surpass the core series in more ways than one. You could even say the force is stronger!

Rogue One has sat at Number 1 on the Official Video Chart - the Official Charts Company’s measuring stick for the most popular DVDs and Blu-rays across the UK - for three weeks, and is set for a fourth week of supremacy according to today's midweek sales flash.

Having shifted another 20,000 units as of today's midweek Chart Update, should the Felicity Jones movie hold on by Sunday, it will push past Star Wars: The Force Awakens' three weeks at No.1 back in early 2016. While Rogue One has not outsold The Force Awakens, holding a longer spell at Number 1 would be a cool chart nugget attached to the spin-off.

New entries and high climbers

Sci-fi fantasy movie The Winter Soldier set in the year 2307 makes a huge impression at Number 10 at the halfway mark today, potentially the second-highest new entry of the week. The Girl On The Train is close behind, rising nine places to Number 13 following a reduced price retail offer.

Fantasy love story Fallen is new at Number 14, ahead of Pierce Brosnan's I.T which sits at Number 16 currently. Futuristic war epic Taking Earth is also new in the Top 20 at Number 20.

E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial could return to the Top 40 at Number 30 as the movie celebrates its 35th anniversary, and Now You See Me 2 also makes a comeback, jumping 140 places to Number 36 today following a reduced pricing across various retailers.
