The latest instalment of the hugely successful Now That’s What I Call Music! franchise, Now That’s What I Call Music! 88, has become the fastest selling album of 2014 so far in the UK.

According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, Now 88 has sold an impressive 224,000 copies since it went on sale on Monday (July 21), overtaking the record set by its predecessor, Now That’s What I Call Music! 87, which sold 205,000 week one, back in April.

X by Ed Sheeran remains the fastest selling artist album of 2014; it sold more than 182,000 copies during its first week of release at the end of last month.

Today, Now 88 debuts in pole position on the Official Compilation Albums Chart, knocking the soundtrack to Disney’s hit animated film, Frozen, off Number 1.

The album features 45 tracks, including 14 Official Singles Chart Number 1s from the likes of: Ella Henderson (Ghost), Ed Sheeran (Sing), Sam Smith (Stay With Me), Mr. Probz (Waves), Kiesza (Hideaway), Oliver Heldens and Becky Hill (Gecko (Overdrive)), Ariana Grande FT Iggy Azalea (Problem), will.i.am FT Cody Wise (It’s My Birthday) and Clean Bandit FT Jess Glynne (Rather Be).

This week’s Official Compilation Albums Chart Top 40 will be revealed here at 7PM this evening.
