Lil Nas X walks down the Old Town Road to a second week at Irish Number 1: “I am so overwhelmed”

Avicii's first posthumous single is this week's highest new entry, while BTS claim their highest charting hit.

Lil Nas X has made it two weeks at Number 1 on the Official Irish Singles Chart with Old Town Road.

The hip-hop/country hybrid has gone viral in recent weeks, giving the 20-year-old a global smash hit that has also topped the charts in the US, Canada, Norway and New Zealand. Old Town Road finished 4,000 combined sales ahead of Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy at Number 2, claiming the second strongest week of sales  in 2019 behind the debut week at Number 1 for Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings back in January.

Lil Nas X told the OfficialCharts.com/Ireland: “I am so overwhelmed that Old Town Road is Number 1 on the Official Irish Charts. Thank you to everyone who has bought or listened to this song. It means the world to me.”

Also in the Top 10, Avicii’s first posthumous single SOS featuring Aloe Blacc is this week’s highest new entry at Number 5, Khalid’s Talk advances to a new peak of Number 8, and Here With Me from Marshmello & CHVRCHES hits the top flight for the first time, up two to Number 10.

Meduza and Goodboys’ huge house hit Piece Of Your Heart scales 11 spots to Number 12, while BTS collect their highest charting single – Boy With Luv featuring Halsey debuts at Number 14. Also in the Top 20, Ava Max’s So Am I climbs for the sixth straight week, up two places to a new peak of Number 16.

Ellie Goulding’s Sixteen ironically scores her a 16th Top 50 entry at Number 41, drill song Keisha & Becky from Russ and Tion Wayne debuts at Number 44 following the release of a remix, and finally, Floridian rapper Dominic Fike earns his first appearance on the Irish chart with 3 Nights at Number 50.
