Coldplay & BTS’ new single My Universe is taking on Ed Sheeran for Number 1 on this week’s Official Singles Chart. The Max Martin-produced collaboration opens at Number 2 on the Official Chart First Look and is just 1,000 chart sales behind current leader, Ed Sheeran’s Shivers (1).

My Universe will feature on Coldplay’s upcoming album Music Of The Spheres, released on October 15. It’s the second single from the collection, following May’s Number 12-peaking Higher Power. Both acts performed the single on this weekend's Global Citizen Live concert in New York.

Meanwhile, Ed's Shivers could receive a further boost this week following his guest performance on BBC One's The Graham Norton Show, which returned with its new series on Friday.

If My Universe holds its position, it will be Coldplay’s highest-charting single since their 2017 Chainsmokers collaboration Something Just Like This. For BTS, it could be their highest-peaking single in the UK to date.

Elsewhere, Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah) by Nigerian artist CKay looks set to hold in the Top 10 for a second week, currently at 9. The sleeper hit was first released in 2019 and has now taken off globally thanks to series of international collaborations and remixes of the song.

Further down the First Look Top 20, Ed Sheeran’s Visiting Hours looks set to rebound back into the Top 20, up five places to 16, and Becky Hill & Topic’s My Heart Goes (La Di Da) is on track to climb for a fifth consecutive week, so far up three spots to 17.

The Official Singles Chart Top 100 is revealed on OfficialCharts.com every Friday at 5.45pm. Follow the Top 40 countdown live on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart show with Scott Mills.

Hoping the Coldplay and BTS song will get to number 1. That song is a banger and I think the more people hear it then the more it will get popular

Happy to see climbs for Joel Corry and Becky Hill/Topic. Really would love to see Cold Heart be Number 1 but I'm not sure it's gonna get past old Ed.

Guess Ed Sheeran will deny both Coldplay and BTS a #01 Hit.
BTS never had a #01 in UK and their best so far is #03 (with "Dynamite" and "Butter") - if this song peaks #02 will be their highest peaking song in UK so far. BTS only other TOP 10 in UK is "Life Goes On" that peaked at #10. Despite being huge in US and Asia BTS don't enjoy the same kind of success in Europe and UK his their best market both sales and chartswise. Even if the song falls down the charts they will most probably chart their 4th TOP 10 UK Hit.

Coldplay only reached UK Singles Top Spot twice ("Viva La Vida" in 2008 and Paradise in 2011). In 2017 they were able to have a #02 hit with their collaboration with Chainsmokers "Something Just Like This" but these 3 songs are also Coldplay only TOP 3 songs in UK Charts. Will they have a 4th TOP 3 song in UK Charts?

In My Place and Speed of Sound were both top 3 songs at #2

‘Cold Heart [PNAU Remix]’ still hanging in there in the Top 3 is amazing to see though! :D

The song will most probably end up at #02 or even #01 as is #02 on iTunes UK and #03 on UK Spotify (still climbing). "My Universe" will most probably end up inside the TOP 10 and probably TOP 5 but will struggle to be TOP 3 by the end of the week. Many versions are on iTunes (higher at #06) but all falling fast and the song is only #46 in UK Spotify.

I think it could end up staying above ‘My Universe’ by the end of the tracking week, but I sadly don’t see it overtaking ‘Shivers’, at least not this week. :/

I was kind of mixed with ‘My Universe’!

I really hope it’ll grow on me soon, but it seems like a lot of regulars here love it at least, haha. :)

The song isn't that great. They have it all. BTS + Coldplay and getting Max Martin (one of the biggest bubblegum hit producer/songwritter of all time) but it doesn't seems to be enough for them to get to #01.

Despite having multiple versions on iTunes all are falling fast on UK iTunes Charts and "Cold Heart" is even up to #02 again already. Ed Sheeran remains #01 on iTunes UK. Also both Ed Sheeran (#06) and "Cold Heart" (#03) are higher in UK Spotify chart where BTS+Coldplay are at #46 with their song.

Im not a huge fan of BTS, but I hope this is their first #1 because it's a banger

I don’t think it’ll get there sadly, which means we’ll probably be stuck with Ed once again! :P

Yeah, I kind of agree with you regarding the song itself unfortunately. :/

Not much changed, but I’m happy to see ‘Visiting Hours’ still climbing, ‘Shivers’ is still okay, although I’m completely over ‘Bad Habits’ now! :P

"Bad Habits" took a few weeks to grow on me so I still turn up the volume to listen to that song everytime it plays :)

‘Bad Habits’ died off on fairly fast, but ‘Shivers’ is already holding up for me despite the overplay! :P
