Is the US singer about to become only the second artist in history to take a Bond theme all the way to the top of the Official Chart?

Billie Eilish looks set to not only score her first UK Number 1 single on Friday, but also become only the second act in history to reach Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart with a Bond theme, as No Time To Die heads for the top of this week’s chart.

18 year-old US singer Billie is the youngest artist to record a Bond theme and is due to perform the new track at Tuesday night’s BRIT Awards ceremony in London. Listen below.

Billie broke Official Chart records in April 2019 when she became the youngest artist to score a Number 1 album with debut release When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? A Number 1 single in the UK however has so far escaped her, but that all looks set to change this week as dramatic ballad No Time To Die powers into the lead on both sales and streams.

The first and only artist to reach Number 1 with a Bond theme was Sam Smith with Writing’s On The Wall in 2015. See where every James Bond theme charted.

Reigning chart topper The Weeknd slips to Number 2 midweek, while the second highest new entry of the week so far comes courtesy of Sam Smith as To Die For starts out at Number 20 after 48 hours.

Justin Bieber’s Yummy (10) gains three places since Friday, while Billie Eilish’s current highest charting single to date, Bad Guy, rebounds 5 places to Number 14 – the song previously peaked at Number 2 in April 2019. Add to this Everything I Wanted, a non-mover at 9, and Billie is on track to scoop a trio of entries in Friday’s Top 20.

A Load of rubbish and so was sam smith as well. Bond should be all about the action song ike Duran Duran and Wings did. Not this dull lazy singing

Yes!!! Come on Billie! :D

This is probably the only song that's been released this year so far that sent shivers down my spine on first listen! I wasn't sure how she would take on a Bond theme, but yeah, 'No Time To Die' proved to me that she was the right choice for one.

Between her getting five Grammys & on course to being the first woman ever to have Bond theme hit #1, 2020 has got off to an amazing start for her!

Well, wouldn't say it would surprise me if Billie gets to #1, but at least the song is great!

She is perfect for a Bond theme, I had high hopes for the song and she didn't disappoint. This could actually make the second #1 song from the Bond franchise in the UK (since "Writing's On The Wall).

I also wish that it could've reached #1 in the US too, since Billie's popularity in the US is MASSIVE! So, it would've made the second #1 song from the Bond franchise in the US too. (Fun fact (If you haven't known this yet): In the US, there has been only one Bond theme that hit #1 by Duran Duran with "A View To A Kill")

Hey Sergej! :)

Glad we all appear to be on the same page regarding 'No Time To Die'! I'm excited to see how it'll d in your chart next week, since it should easily be #1 for both Coolocelot & myself.

I knew about the UK one, but not the US one, so thanks for letting me know about that. I do wish that Billie Eilish would get her second #1 there with this too, but I'm not sure I see it happening unfortunately (although Top 3 is certainly possible!).

Then again, the Bond franchise in general has almost always been bigger here in general. It's crazy to think that this is going to be the 25th Bond film!

For me, it could debut in the top 3 in my chart, but not straight to #1 (because the battle for #1 is currently between Dua Lipa & Diodato), maybe in a couple weeks it could reach #1 for me, then it would be the third bond theme to reach #1 in my chart (The first two being "A View To A Kill" by Duran Duran in 1985 and "Skyfall" by Adele in 2012, I currently am making my chart archives from 1980-2015, so I'll to those two songs when I reached those years in Crownnote).

That's awesome about you doing archives for your personal charts!

I've got a list of them outside of Crown Note back until September 2008, but there are none before that as I was only ten years old then, haha. :P

It is certainly bar Adeles' Skyfall the best Bond Theme since Tina Turners'Goldeneye ..It may not be up in the Top 5 of all time Bond themes for me but it is by far better than the bottom 10 of worst Bond themes of 26 to date..maybe in the lower half of the Top 10..all that's missing is vocal power(no one is ever going to match Dame Shirley Bassey or Sir Tom Jones are they? )..And the dramatic punch of my favourite Live And Let Die by Wings.Other than that she has pulled off a monumental task for someone so young.

A Bond no.1 in the US is 35 years overdue.
