Avril Lavigne has announced her new single Bite Me will drop this Wednesday (November 10).

Bite Me will be the first release since the Canadian pop=punk icon signed with with DTA Records, co-founded by Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, last week. DTA is technically a subsidiary of Elektra Records, itself owned by Warner Music Group.

This technically means Avil has re-entered the major-label fold, after previously releasing her 2019 comeback record Head Above Water with BMG. Signing with Barker's label comes after the two collaborated on several songs over the past year, for fellow emo rockers Willow Smith and ModSun

A snippet of Bite Me floating around on social media confirms that the song returns Avril to her rock roots, with plenty of emo guitar licks and a full-pelt pop chorus. Given the re-emergence of rock as an Official Charts force to be reckoned with thanks to acts like Olivia Rodrigo and Måneskin, this couldn't come at a better time.

Avril herself has also been named as a direct influence by many of the new rock acts in question, especially her auspicious 2003 debut single Complicated and torch-song I'm With You

Throughout her career, Avril has gained a total of three UK Number 1 albums; Let Go (2002), Under My Skin (2004) and The Best Damn Thing (2007). She's also earned seven UK Top 10 singles, although she hasn't topped the Official Singles Chart - coming the closest with the bratty Girlfriend at Number 2.

New music also seems to have been in the works for a while. Right at the start of the year, Avril revealed she was putting the finishing touches on her seventh album and that the tracklist was all straight bangers

Can't wait to hear it. I assume the record label of Travis is owned by Warner because Warner has been promoting Avril's upcoming new single. I assume Marshmello co-wrote the single "Bite Me" or produced it or co-produced it or collaborated with Avril on "Bite Me" because his name is being associated with this new single.
