Adele’s 21 falls out of the Top 10 for the first time in 72 weeks

Adele’s mega selling album 21 today drops out of the Official Albums Chart Top 10 for the first time since its release back in January 2011. Plus: see this week's Official Albums Chart Top 10.

Adele’s mega selling album 21 today drops out of the Official Albums Chart Top 10 for the first time since its release back in January 2011. 

The album, which has now sold in excess of 4.34 million copies in the UK, has broken a series of chart records, not least overtaking Michael Jackson's iconic album Thriller to become the 5th biggest selling album in chart history recently according to the Official Charts Company’s sales data. 21 today slips to Number 12 in its 72nd week on chart.

This week's Top 5 albums

Gary Barlow and The Commonwealth Band hold on to Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart for a second week with Sing.

The album’s title track was performed last weekend at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, with vocals from the Military Wives Choir and members of the Commonwealth Band, conducted by Military Wives choir master Gareth Malone.  A special documentary on the making of the song was also aired on BBC1 over the weekend – Gary Barlow: On Her Majesty’s Service.  You can read our interview with Gary here.

Ed Sheeran’s + climbs 11 places to Number 2, Paloma Faith’s Fall To Grace slips one place to Number 3 and the Bee Gees’ Best Of collection, Number Ones, climbs three places from Number 7 to Number 4. Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto completes this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 5, climbing six places to Number 5.

New entries

Paul Simon’s iconic album Graceland turns 25 and is today’s highest new entry out of 11 on the Official Albums Chart Top 40 (Number 10), while pop queen Kylie Minogue also celebrates her own 25th anniversary as new The Best Of collection enters at Number 11. 

Dexy’s are back with new offering One Day I’m Going To Soar (13), followed by Beach BoysThat’s Why God Made The Radio (15), Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s Americana is at 16, while Alexandra Burke puts Heartbreak On Hold at Number 18. 

Kaiser ChiefsSouvenir – The Singles 2004–2012 scores a Top 20 at 19, with Bob Seger’s Ultimate Hits settling at 30, Black Sabbath’s Iron Man – The Best Of (34), Ladyhawke’s Anxiety (36) and David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust completes this week’s Top 40 entries.
