35% of the chart is Christmas recordings. Save us from this !

Wow!! So many festive tunes are set to hit the top 40. Then again, it led to the drop of many good songs but that's not a problem for me though. The problem is the fact that I still haven't heard "River" by Ellie Goulding, It isn't available anywhere else and it's about to hit the top 5. Same applies to "Happy CHRISTMAS" by John Legend.

Although i miss "new" music, its great to see Christmas songs from all ages & genres make the chart. The holiday songs are beloved by so many. Of course, i just read of the return of another "sausage roll" holiday tune! Ugh! Whenever i see one of those novelty songs make it, i shake my head in wonder.

Looks like the Christmas takeover is so insane that I might not be reviewing any songs come Friday, haha!

Interesting to see 'River' being a potential future #1 though. :)

It has dropped to no.3 on Amazon currently behind Mariah and tones and I today but the 3 of them on Amazon have been moving around a lot. I truly think this year will be Mariahs year. If she does make the xmas no.1 will be interesting to see if it performs as well in future years having finally grabbed the top spot

According to someone on yesterday's update, the ACR clock could be getting reset for 'Dance Monkey'...

Do you know anything about this? I certainly don't, so just wanted to ask.

Jumping in to clear this up, she has declined for two weeks in a row, and this would be the last week to decline in order to go on ACR on the Christmas chart. She's been declining massively recently and dropped below 80k sales for the first time in a while this week, so everything's pointing to her getting a decline this week as well.

Despite this, apparently 'Dance Monkey' is only experiencing a negligible decline in this update, in comparison to last Monday's update, so at this point, anything could happen. We're going to have to wait till Friday to see, but if it does swerve ACR once again - it's more than likely getting Christmas #1. (in its 12th week at the top, no less!)

So it's not getting increases at all, but rather very small decreases? Yeah, that would mean it's still heading for ACR this Friday.

That said, if it somehow did rebound over the next three days, like you said, avoiding ACR isn't out of the question just yet!

It also depends on whether the entire singles market increases or decreases - so, for example, if 'Dance Monkey' declines by 2%, but the market itself declines by 4%, it still manages to avoid ACR. It's Christmas time, so obviously the market won't be decreasing at this time, but it still plays a huge role otherwise.

I think it's going to ACR regardless of how little it declines, but we can't say that with such certainty at this time and with the information we currently have.

Hi piran!
Its been a while since I've replied to any of your comments but I'm always checking the charts on Friday and reading your replies. I think im the only person who enjoys 'dance monkey' staying at the top spot. It's so catchy and tones voice is so different compared to most singers, making it stick to your brain. She's topped the charts on apple music, spotify and youtube for a couple of months now. I wouldn't even mind if she went on to become Christmas number one, although acr might make that impossible. I defiantly wasn't expecting Ellie Goulding to go this far in the chart! River is nice song, it's not something I would overplay but nice to hear occasionally. Considering 'river' isn't even available on the more 'bigger' streaming platforms, it's doing amazingly. If ellie, made it available everywhere, no doubt will it go to number one. While it doesn't look like Dua lipa, Lewis capaldi or stormzy will hit the top spot, I hope mariah carey or wham finally goes all the way, after decades. Its so shocking that some of the most iconic Christmas songs never went to number one. I have a feeling mariah won't go to the top as she'll most likely get blocked by Ellie Goulding or tones and i. Love seeing halsey amd suga in the top 100. Her two latest songs were amazing and different, although none of them will probably chart due to the Christmas takeover. Also, unfortuanly it doesn't look like camila cabello will get her first #1 album. It's weird to think in 10 years, none of the artists on the charts now, will most likely not be on the charts then, unless they are icons
Hope to reply to u friday
Have a good week until then!!!

Hey Tony! :)

Haha, trust me, you're definitely one the only one! 'Dance Monkey' is still very dominant on sales despite a weakening streaming lead, so people are clearly still enjoying it a lot.

I do think 'Dance Monkey' is a really unique song & I agree with all of the points you made on it, but this'll be its 11th week at #1 & I can't it put it up there with some of the other songs that have spent that long at the top!

To be honest, it didn't really surprise me that 'Romance' is set to miss out on the #1 thanks to The Who & Robbie Williams, but I'm very disappointed that yesterday's update only had it at #16 (when her last album peaked at #2!). :O

Back to the singles, if 'Dance Monkey' does on ACR as expected, then I could see it being between 'River' & 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' for Christmas #1, with the latter having a small edge for that all-important week, with a massive lead the week after going into New Year (as that'll be the tracking week that actually counts Christmas Day).

If 'Dance Monkey' does survive ACR... well, it'll be very close, but I still think it'll be Mariah's year! :D

Oh yeah, I forgot that a song had to decline more than the overall singles market for three consecutive weeks for ACR, not just in overall performance! :P

I love seeing Dance Monkey at no.1 this long. Her track 'Johnny run away' is really good too. Think I'll leave Mariah Carey on constant streaming next week while I'm asleep hahaha.

Haha, you won't be the only one! :P

'Johnny Run Away' is also really awesome, but I think if Tones & I does get a second hit in the UK, it'll be with 'Never Seen The Rain'.
