Who is Dream? The online superstar set to enter the Official Singles Chart Top 40 with Mask
Dreamy name...
Dream is a 21-year-old Minecraft YouTuber and vocalist, boasting nearly 23 million subscribers on his main YouTube channel alone plus millions more across numerous other social media accounts.
He only started posting regularly to the Dream channel in 2019, but after a whirlwind rise to fame in 2020 thanks to his Speedruns and ‘manhunt’ challenges on Minecraft, his videos now rack up tens of millions of views each. Now, he's turning his attention to music.
Who *actually* is he though?
Well, we don’t actually know! And that’s just how he wants it... For now. Dream keeps his identity firmly under his MS Paint-drawn avatar. He has stated in interviews however that he intends to do a face reveal once the pandemic is more under control.
What kind of music does he make?
With two tracks under his belt as a lead artist, there’s not much on offer yet - but what he has released so far includes a modern mix of pop, acoustic rock and electronic elements - these first two tracks seem quite targeted towards his core audience, but so early on he's still finding his sound and enjoying the process of making music.
His latest single Mask has notched up over 1 million plays in its first week, and is set to earn him his first Top 40 the Official Singles Chart this week.
Mask is an honest and introspective track where Dream opens up about his mental health struggles, and the impact his career has had on his real life.
Speaking to fans about the song on his private Twitter account, Dream said Mask is "much more personal [than Roadtrip] I would say, the main reason I’ve been enjoying music is being able to tell stories and talk about things from my life and stuff in a catchy way".
Dream’s debut single was Roadtrip, featuring US rapper and songwriter PmBata. At time of writing, it’s been streamed over 6 million times in the UK alone, with its official lyric video clocking up 17.5 million views globally. It made it to Number 75 on the Official Singles Chart on its release in February.

dream is honestly up there with ksi and the sidemen as the best youtubers of all time. i always enjoy his manhunts, they are a joy to watch. it just that his music is average at best.
