The Marvels storms straight to Number 1 on Official Film Chart

The Marvels

The Marvels storms straight to Official Film Chart summit this week, debuting at Number 1.

Marvel Studios' sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel sees Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel), played by Brie Larsson, destroy the Supreme Intelligence; leaders of the Kree empire. A civil war ensues, leaving Hana, the Kree homeland, desolate and uninhabitable.

But, with Captain Marvel now bearing the burden of some unwelcome consequences, can a long-awaited team-up of Danvers, Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) match the power of new Kree Emperor Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton)?

A re-entry at Number 2 this week is sci-fi blockbuster The Creator, which sees a nuclear warhead detonated over 2055 Los Angeles. The film stars John David Washington as ex-special forces agent Joshua, recruited to hunt down and kill ‘the Creator’, an elusive AI architect who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war between humans and the forces of artificial intelligence – and humankind itself.

Last week’s Number 1, Trolls Band Together, is down two (3), as is Oppenheimer (4).

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a brand-new entry at Number 8 this week. Based on the video game series of the same name, the Emma Tammi-directed supernatural horror sees protagonist Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) take a job at Freddy Fazbar’s Pizza, before quickly discovering the establishment’s dark history.

And, finally, fresh of the Oscar nominations Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon rebounds back into the Top 10, up 10 (10). With members of the Osage Indian tribe being killed off one-by-one after the group gain wealth through oil, the massacre leads to an FBI investigation.
