The Academic have shared details of their upcoming EP titled The Community Spirit.

The digital collection, available to pre-save, will be released on Friday July 9, with a physical release yet-to-be-announced. The EP's lead single Kids (Don't End Up Like Me) is streaming now.

The Community Spirit was written and recorded by the quartet during lockdown, with frontman Craig Fitzgerald producing for the first time.

"I’d spend a lot of time during lockdown working on my production chops," Craig said in a statement, "trying to get the most out of the little equipment I had. The band put their faith in me to take a stab at producing this. Whilst it’s definitely super DIY, it’s been a cool experience and helped us realise we can make music on our own.”

The Academic's 2018 debut album Tales From The Backseat went straight in at Number 1 on the Official Irish Albums Chart and was subsequently nominated for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize. The band returned in 2020 with their EP Acting My Age, their first release with new label Capitol Records, which topped out at Number 6.
