Manchester four-piece The 1975 look set to claim the top spot on this week’s Official Albums Chart with their latest collection, I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It.

The Matthew Healy-fronted band is currently outselling the rest of the Top 3 combined, putting it in a strong position to keep the top spot until Friday’s Official Chart reveal. If they secure it, it’ll be their second Number 1 album, following self-titled debut in 2013.

Meanwhile, last week’s Number 1 Adele slips to 2 with 25, and David Bowie’s Best of Bowie collection sits at 3.

Rounding out this week’s Top 5 are Justin Bieber’s Purpose (4) and former chart toppers Coldplay, whose album A Head Full of Dreams holds at 5.

New entries and high climbers

Another eleven new entries adorn the rest of the Top 40 at the halfway stage of the chart week.

Britain’s Got Talent alumni Richard & Adam are on course for their third Top 10 album with Believe – Songs of Inspiration (9), and thrash metal legends Anthrax are on course for their first ever UK Top 10 album with For All Kings. Their first record in five years could see them better their chart peak of 12, recorded back in 1988 with State Of Euphoria.

Just outside of the Top 10 are Macklemore & Ryan Lewis with This Unruly Mess I’ve Made (11), and Birmingham rockers Magnum land at 14 with Sacred Blood Divine Lies.

Other new entries come from Steve Mason’s Meet The Humans (18), Bonnie Raitt’s Dig In Deep (26), Game of Thrones star Raleigh Ritchie’s You’re A Man Now Boy (27) and DMA’S Hills End (30).

Further down, the remaster of Phil Collins’ Hello, I Must Be Going! places at 32, whilst Steel Panther’s Live From Lexxi’s Mom’s Garage and School of Seven Bells’ SVIIB debut at 38 and 39 respectively.

Rounding out this week’s Top 40 is a new remastering of tracks from David Bowie. Bowie At The Beeb – originally released in 2000 – bows at Number 40 mid-week.
