Modernlove offer antidote to Valentine's malaise with the blistering Follow You

The Drogheda indie-rockers are not messing about with their first single of 2022.

Suffering from that post-Valentine's Day malaise? Well don't worry, Irish indie-rockers Modernlove have got you covered with their new single, Follow You.

While previous material has been inspired by the likes TLC, Nirvana and Janet Jackson's Control era, Follow You moves forward a bit in time - now a homage to the kind of indie bangers of the early 00s.

"Follow You is a love song about the early stages of infatuation in a relationship," the band said in a statement.

"It's about finding yourself in a relationship so intimate that spending each waking moment together still isn't enough, hence the lyrics 'when you fall asleep I'll follow you.'"

Produced by Tom Leach (Lewis Capaldi, The Streets), Follow You is out now via Akira Records.

Taking inspiration from the likes of Bloc Party, The Cure and New Order, the lads say Follow You came about "that resonated with the nostalgia of those same naïve infatuations [...] a song that we could fully jam on together and jump around to."

Following the release of their breakthrough single Us and EP Monochrome Blue in 2021, Modernlove spoke to Irish Charts about bringing the 90s back in style, while also being up for the challenge of a 00s revival with their next release.

Looks like that worked out rather well!
