This year's Record Store Day is set to be bigger than ever, with 2024's edition set to deliver a £10 million boost to indie record shops across the record shops.

Taking place this year on Saturday April 20, Record Store Day 2024 will aim to help secure the future of one of the key pillars of grassroots music culture in Britain today.

The total figure (£9.7m) comes estimated from the sales value of the 443 exclusive releases that will be made available on Record Store Day this year; including eclusive drops from Lily Allen, Jessie Ware and Olivia Rodrigo, who will be teaming up on a split 7" vinyl with Noah Kahan, containing her cover of his UK Number 1 single Stick Season (which helped the song first gain traction) and his cover of GUTS cut Lacy, both from the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.

Record Store Day 2024 has already made a headline-grabbing launch, with reclusive superstar Kate Bush being named as Record Store Day ambassador for 2024, with a physical re-release of rare track Eat The Music to mark the occasion.

Research by industry body ERA shows that in 2023, sales from Record Store Day accounted for for nearly 10% of annual sales of all physical music products in high street stores.

Physical music has become an indelible part of modern music culture, resistant to change even in the age of streaming. Earlier this year, further research by ERA showed that the number of independent record shops trading in the UK recently hit a 10 year high.

Looking forward to the year ahead too, there are certainly a lot of exciting new music releases that fans will be clamouring to purchase physical copies of, including Taylor Swift's forthcoming new album The Tortured Poets Department, set for release April 19, which will include four different vinyl variants, each containing a specific new track not available on streaming.
