Rammstein - Deutschland is just #98? Britain, are u crazy about European music :(

And without the 3 songs per artist rule it wouldn´t have made the Top 100 at all, because then this chart would be full with all 14 tracks of Billie Eilish´s new album. So Rammstein would be 11 places lower (109)

Here we go again, 3 more tracks from the "top selling" album of the week in the "singles" chart. Nothing against Billie EIlish but tracks should either be "singles" or not, otherwise it's a mockery. Other than that the best song on this chart is at number 98, which has been viewed 26 million times on Youtube, which is more than anything else outside the top 10. Why is it so low? Only OCC know and they're not saying ;)

bad guy, Wish you were gay and bury a friend are singles though.

(98) Deutschland by Rammstein is neither doing very well on audio streams nor sales.

The 26 million views are mostly from other countries

(40) Not really a fan of "Monopoly" by Ariana Grande. Hope it doesn't stick around for too long.

(48) "Can't stop clocks" didn't make the top 40. Nice, the song made my ear cry

(19)"Your Mrs" is quite catchy though but its streams are falling. 🙁

(26)"Better Man" reminds me of the old westlife. Hope they get more streams though.

Middle child hit ACR and the drop is...*ouch* (36 -85)

(13) "Wish you were gay" finally makes the top 20. I've been hooked on the song despite not being.... Well, It's a sweet song.

What's does it mean for a track to enter ACR

If the song declines in pure sales for 3 consecutive weeks, the streaming figures of the song will be slashed, that would result in the song taking a big drop on the chart. It usually happens on the 10th week or more depending on how the song is performing

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…

- ‘Someone You Loved’ by Lewis Capaldi is #1 on the singles chart for a sixth consecutive week! It seemed to have a firm lead this week, as it ended the week 9,000 combined sales ahead of its nearest competitor.

- ‘Someone You Loved’ also rises to #1 on the national airplay chart. Surprisingly, ‘Don’t Call Me Up’ by Mabel dropped 1-7 this week, which has to be one of the biggest drops from the top spot on the radio since I started doing these reviews.

- On YouTube… ‘Someone You Loved’ dominates there too! It’s #1 there for a second consecutive week & gains 3.1% percent in weekly views to 2.37 million.

- BILLIE EILISH – BAD GUY (#2)
As most of you know by now, I’m definitely a fan of Billie Eilish’s sound! Her darker pop sound is exactly the shake-up charts everywhere needed in 2019 & this is the prime example of why she’s been getting critical acclaim. Billie’s breathy vocals combined with a cold bass is what ultimately makes this creepy, along with the content obviously (just look at the title!), but I also love the electric chime & snaps that her older brother contributed to. I think that she could’ve transitioned into the breakdown at the end of the song a little better, but the fact that the switch-up happens so abruptly only adds further tension of the track, so it still did what it needed to do! For me, I really like this upon first listen, solid 8/10!

- JAY1 – YOUR MRS (#19)
So most British rappers hitting the charts right now are generally from or near London, but this is the debut hit for Coventry artist Jay1. Overall, despite me not being too hyped about it charting initially, it’s fine I guess. The shuddering bass is a good intro before we go into Jay1’s drill flow, similar to that of Unknown T for those of you who are more familiar with the genre. Unfortunately, while he does bring a fast delivery, he needs to extend syllables to make the rhymes connect. As for the content, he jokes about stealing your girl, then says that he wouldn’t because basically his is better looking. I would say that this isn’t going to stick around, but given how fast the genre is making a rise in the UK music scene, we’ll just have to see. In the meantime, very light 6/10!

- WESTLIFE – BETTER MAN (#26)
I’m so excited for that next Westlife & if this song proves anything, it’s that they’re comfortable sticking into the lane they always have, which is a huge positive given how much I love their throwbacks! You can definitely tell that the ballad was co-written by Ed Sheeran with those soaring hooks, particularly the final one! Even without Brian McFadden, the group can still pull off some awesome harmonies! The content is really about understanding that you’ve make mistakes around a lover, that you’ve learned from them & that you’ll come back stronger from it. I did expect this to drop lower than predicted throughout the week due to only really benefitting from sales, but at least this debuted in the Top 40 & it’s much deserved too! Solid 8/10.

- LIL NAS X – OLD TOWN ROAD (#39)
So who expected the day where we would get a Top 40 hit that blended trap & country?! There was actually some controversy with the latter after it got removed from the country charts in the US for not embracing enough elements of the genre. However, not only do I think this worked far better than expected, but it clearly has some country elements too; the guitar sample, the prominent banjo & even Lil Nas X’s husky delivery, even the autotune on his vocals doesn’t bother me that much here. The jittering beat seems to be a fine enough fit here as well, although it does feel a little clunky towards the end. The lone gunslinger lyrics seem to fit into both genres equally as well! So yeah, it might’ve become this big because of meme & the song isn’t even two minutes long, but I’m curious to see what’s to come from this artist. This grew on me a lot actually, solid 7/10!

- ARIANA GRANDE & VICTORIA MONET – MONOPOLY (#40)
I’m so confused with Ariana’s release schedule; she released ‘Sweetener’ at the end of last summer, then ‘Thank U, Next’ followed less than six months later, now we get this song that’s not even from the album & also came out of nowhere on a Monday (therefore, expect this to climb a lot next week, potentially Top 10). That said, I’m sorry, this is the biggest disappointment from her I’ve heard in a while. Yeah, I get that the song is trying to be fun, but their garbled auto-tuned vocals & especially Victoria Monet’s higher range just annoyed me immediately. Now thankfully, Ariana does do a better job here, although this just adds more proof that she’s heading into a more trap direction instead of the pop music we’re used to her making. The jingling production seems promising at first, but quickly becomes basic & it’s content that we’ve heard on most of the ‘Thank U, Next’ tracks anyway; staying true to yourself, but also by bragging. Overall, it’s not bad, but I’m not going to be remembering it for very long. Solid 5/10.

- On the albums chart, Billie Eilish receives her first #1 with her debut called ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’, accumulating 48,000 combined sales this week (the highest for an international debut album since ‘Born To Die’ by Lana Del Rey in January 2012).

- At 17 years, 3 months & 18 days old, Billie Eilish enters the record books as the youngest female solo artist to have a UK #1 album.

- The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘The Greatest Showman [Soundtrack]’ ‘What A Time To Be Alive’ by Tom Walker, ‘Staying At Tamara’s’ & ‘Bohemian Rhapsody [Soundtrack]’.

- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Last Hurrah’ by Bebe Rexha, ‘Kill This Love’ by BLACKPINK, ‘Cool’ by The Jonas Brothers, another Billie Eilish track or two, ‘Let Me Down Slowly’ by Alec Benjamin, ‘My Bad’ by Khalid, ‘All Day & Night’ by Jax Jones & Martin Solveig ft Madison Beer, ‘Baby’ by Giggs & maybe even more.

- Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

I agree on "Monopoly", definately Ariana's worst single since 2018. My rating was slightly better but only a very light 6/10.

I don't know what to think about "Old Town Road" anymore. After first listen I gave it a 1.5/10, I was so disappointed over it. But I still saw it being very interesting. It has grown to a 3/10, and now after the Billy Ray Cyrus remix which was mad awesome, maybe even a 5/10 is possible. Definately my biggest grower in ages!

Rammstein also debuted at #98! It's cool to see, even though the story behind the song wasn't as glorious. They might debut in Finland as the song's been doing well on streaming (Top 10 on Spotify), adding to that good sales which rock bands always have.

How do you calculate the sales of tracks

Hey Piran! It's great to see 'Someone You Loved' stay at #1 for a 6th week! I honestly hope that it can make 8 weeks at the top, which does look at least reasonably likely at this point. i don't mind seeing 'Giant' finally move away from #2, though I would've preferred something other that 'bad guy' to push it down. I love seeing 'Fashion Week' and especially 'Location' continuing to prove themselves as strong Top 10 hits, and seeing 'Piece of Your Heart' make the huge climb into the Top 10 is great as well!
As for the debuts, I'm not a huge fan of 'bad guy' as you probably could've guessed. I actually do really like the beat, but I just can't get into that style of song or Billie's style of singing, so I'd give it a light 6/10 for now. 'Your Mrs' is slightly better for me, but it's nothing incredible and I'd only give it a strong 6/10. 'Better Man' would probably be a solid 5/10, while 'Old Town Road' has grown on me a decent amount since I first heard it - light 7/10 for now. I agree with you on 'MONOPOLY', though. It's a shame, given how much I love 'thank u, next', but I'm not really a fan of 'MONOPOLY' at all. Maybe a light 6/10 at best.
Next week, it looks like 'Piece of Your Heart' will be climbing higher, as will 'Old Town Road' with the new remix, and Khalid will probably see the highest debut with one of the tracks from 'Free Spirit'. 'MONOPOLY' will also likely climb, but I'm not sure about Top 10. #18 on Spotify, #48 on Apple Music and #31 on iTunes makes it seem like it'll be a Top 20 hit at best. It doesn't look like it's going to be a crazy week, though.
By the way, have you heard 'Lesley' yet? If you have, what do you think? It just spent its 4th consecutive week at #1 on my charts, the joint 3rd longest consecutive run at #1 ever! It's likely to beat that next week as well. On top of that, I recently added it to my All-Time chart and placed it at #9 with a 100/100 rating, so obviously I like it a lot!

Hey Gameskiller! :)
I feel like 'Someone You Loved' could easily get another two weeks at #1, since it doesn't seem to in danger of being put on ACR for now.
Where we disagree is on Billie Eilish as you know! I did wonder if 'Bad Guy' could pull off a surprise & debut at #1, but it didn't have enough sales & nowhere near enough radio.
It seems like we agree on most of the new arrivals, although I definitely liked 'Bad Guy' & 'Better Man' a lot more than you did!
So far, all of your predictions seem right! On the Official Chart Update so far, 'Talk' is set to jump into the Top 10 for the first time at #8, while 'Piece Of Your Heart' climbed to #6 off of strong sales & huge airplay momentum.
The biggest surprise was the huge jump for 'Old Town Road' to #4! I knew the song would definitely be climbing thanks to the remix & the dance challenge surrounding it, but not that high, even though I won't exactly complain about it, haha.
I'm listening to 'Lesley' right now; really deep delivery from Dave & I love the heavenly production, Ruelle also sounds good too! It feels like more of a story than a song to me, but I mean that in a positive way. This might end up charting for me at some point, but maybe not too high.

A lot of them are either reported on ChartData, BPI or the other OCC articles.

Hey Henri! :)
Yeah, 'Monopoly' definitely disappointed me, but I'm pleased to hear that 'Old Town Road' is growing on you fast, even if you think it's still only okay for now. Apparently, everyone else seems to think the same thing, since it's heading for the Top 10 on the Hot 100 tonight & it'll probably end up being #1 next week.
It's really cool to see a German song on the UK charts... I can't remember the last time that happened actually! Like you, I do like the song in general, but not the lyrics.
By the way, you know how I told that one of the semi-finalist of The Voice UK was from the same county as me? She only went on to win the show! :D
Her "song of the series" was, unsurprisingly, 'I'll Never Love Again'! She absolutely slayed it, even with the bias of her being so close to where I live, she's still an incredible singer regardless, so I was going to vote for her anyway.
Her cover version is already #1 on iTunes over here!

The thing about "Old Town Road" is, I love the remix but the original would be OK at best. So I'm praying Billy Ray gets credited.

As Lil Nas X himself said, "Billy Ray murdered it". And oh he did! It's so surreal to think that any Cyrus would rule the charts, yet alone Billy Ray! Nothing in 2019 surprises me anymore 😅

Rammstein actually debuted at #4 here. That's so surprising! I'll post the entire Finnish Singles chart later tomorrow, Billie also had an album bomb!

Oh that's super awesome! I saw the "I'll Never Love Again" cover and it was awesome! She feels like a great winner!

Okay, I must've been looking at a previous chart then, but it's cool that Rammstein managed to get Top 5 in Finland anyway!
Regarding 'Old Town Road', while I'd still give the original a light 7/10, the remix probably boosted that to a solid 8/10! It's kind of cool that what was one of your least favourite songs on the Hot 100 at the time it debuted went on to be "awesome", haha!
Yeah, I wouldn't have been massively surprised about Miley getting another #1, maybe not even Noah, but I would never have expected Billy to be possibly doing it! Generally, the people I've asked seem to think that he will get credited, since the remix is currently selling more than the original, but we'll have to wait & see.
Also, if they do credit Billy, I wonder if they'll put 'Old Town Road' back on to the Hot Country Songs chart...
I'm definitely glad to hear that you liked Molly's cover! :D
By the way, this was another really busy week on my personal charts! There were 11 debuts & one re-entry, so I can't wait for you to see that a little later.

If anything's going to be replacing 'Someone You Loved' before it goes on ACR I'm pretty sure it'll be 'Old Town Road'. If you combine the Spotify streams of both versions it puts it solidly at #1 with 700k streams, ~200k ahead of 'bad guy'. On Apple Music they're at #5 and #13, so while the effect isn't quite as big there, combining the 2 would certainly put it Top 3 at least.
I definitely feel like 'Lesley' is more of a story than a song as well, and that's one of the things that I really love about it. It's rare to hear such thoughtful and emotional stories in songs, so to have it be so well crafted and well executed makes it incredibly good. In terms of the actual song, it's far from my favourite to listen to, but in terms of the content and lyrics of the song it's probably among the best I've ever heard.
