Green Day storm ahead for fifth UK Number 1 album with Saviors

Plus, we have big potential new entries from Neck Deep and Saxon.

US pop-punk greats Green Day are blowing away the competition on the path to secure their fifth UK Number 1 album this week.

Saviors, the 14th studio album from Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool, is currently outselling the rest of the Top 10 combined at the midweek mark.

It would join the icons’ four previous UK chart-toppers; American Idiot (2004), 21st Century Breakdown (2009), Revolution Radio (2016) and Father of All… (2020).

Meanwhile, Welsh pop-punk band Neck Deep set their sights on their highest-charting album yet. Eponymous release Neck Deep (2) is the fifth LP from the Wrexham-formed five-piece, comprising brothers Ben and Seb Barlow, Matt West, Sam Bowden and Matt Powles.

Neck Deep have previously claimed 2015’s Life’s Not Out to Get You (8), 2017’s The Peace and the Panic (4) and 2020’s All Distortions Are Intentional (4).

Friday could also be a landmark moment for British heavy metal outfit Saxon, currently on track to gain their first Top 3 placing with 24th album Hell Fire and Damnation (3). The band have previously claimed three Top 10 records, and 10 Top 40 entries across a career spanning four decades.

Outside the midweek Top 10, Bournemouth rock band South of Salem aim for their first-ever Official Albums Chart appearance with Death of the Party (14), as Teddy Swims continues to rise, with I’ve Tried Everything but Therapy (Part 1) looking to break into the Top 20 (20).

Finally, we could see two further potential new entries in the Top 40; Salford's Black Grape’s Orange Head tracks to become the group’s first Top 40 record in 7 years (26), while Fisherman’s Friends hope to secure their fifth Top 40 album with 10th LP All Aboard (36).

Green Day's 2016 album was called Revolution Radio, not 'Road'.
