Despicable Me 3 set to bring a fourth Official Video Chart Number 1 home to the franchise

Plus popular anime movie Your Name is eyeing a Top 5 debut.

There are a lot of minion fans in the UK - Despicable Me 3 is leaps and bounds ahead of the competition on today’s Official Video Chart Update.

A midweek look at Blu-ray and DVD Charts in the UK this week, today’s Chart Update reveals sales of 87,000 for the children’s movie, meaning Despicable Me 3 is outselling the rest of the Top 10 combined. A box set of all three Despicable Me movies is also set to debut this week at Number 20.

The animated film featuring the voice of Steve Carell will be the fourth Number 1 hit in a row for the franchise come Sunday. Despicable Me reached the helm of the chart in 2011 with 388,000 sales, while its follow-up Despicable Me 2 secured the highest first-week sales for the series with 566,000 copies shifted. Spin-off Minions was also a chart topper in 2015 with week one figures tallying 305,000.

Former Number 1 movies Transformers: The Last Knight, The Mummy and Fast & Furious 8 each drop a spot to Numbers 2, 3 and 4 respectively, while Makoto Shinkai anime movie Your Name is a new entry at Number 5.

New entries and high climbers

Another five new entries are hoping for a Top 40 slot in the final Official Video Chart come Sunday, the next highest being Season 1 of Westworld at Number 6. Eyeing Top 20 positions this week are Bad Santa 2 (12), Family Guy – Season 17 (15) and Whisky Galore (16).

Christmas crackers are also starting to return to the chart, the highest this week being Elf starring Will Ferrell. The Xmas comedy has risen 89 positions to Number 34, while there’s a 156 place ascent for Beauty & The Beast: Enchanted Christmas at 36.

Finally, motor racing documentary Ferrari: Race To Immortality is hoping not to stall outside of the Top 40 and is currently parked at Number 38.
